Lucia Renata Bourghese

Character Sheet/Audition for "Dancer In The Dark"

Role Name: Sequin Smile, Black Lipstick

Character Name: Lucia Renata Bourghese

Nicknames: Lulu (She hates it, but everyone has nicknames. Still, it annoys her.)

Age: 19, or so everyone thinks. Probably not so.

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Face Claim: Daniela Bobadilla

Personality: While not beautiful in the classical sense, Lucia has a dark and sassy elegance about her that is fueled by a razor-sharp wit. She absolutely cannot understand why those attributes aren't valued by men of good standing. Lucia finds it absolutely intolerable that she spent most of the previous year's "marriage mart" lurking in the shadows or making conversation, only to be abandoned when a tall blonde with a flirtatious giggle walked by. However, she is determined to find a mate who can help her improve her station in life, and keeps those who seem less than useful at arm's length. The youngest daughter of a Viscount, it pains her to see her less attractive or less intelligent sisters married while she is left alone with a father who dotes on her. Though she has everything she wants, she is aware that the way her father spoils her is an investment. Lucia fears she won't be able to marry well and make her father proud, though she hides her insecurity with sarcasm and petulance.

Lucia wants things her way, or not at all. She thinks she is intelligent enough to see through the annoyingly superficial aspects of her society, and rebels against them at any opportunity. Yet, she sulks and becomes difficult company when the superficial and dull people ignore her. She is wise enough to know that marriage for love is usually a sham, and looks to make a match that will elevate her station and keep her in the lifestyle to which she has grown accustomed. After all, it's easy to take a lover or three. She won't go to the altar a pure virgin, and she certainly doesn't intend to live her life as one.

The gothic-inspired heroine Jane Austen never got around to including in her stories, Lucia comes across as a flighty, spoiled, sulky teenager. Yet, she looks like she's 25 and has the wisdom and intelligence of someone far beyond her years. The illusion shatters whenever her temper rears its ugly head.Crafty and a schemer who is often underestimated, Lucia is not evil, but she doesn't particularly think about the feelings of others. It is only after the damage is done that she's capable of regret. She is more than she seems, and a dark well of chaos and secrets.

Hobbies: Music, dancing, fashion, reading, writing long letters, finding adventure in what she considers a very routine, predictable world. She longs to travel and experience life.

Likes/Dislikes: Lucia enjoys being the centre of attention, no matter how much she goes on about hating those who always need to be noticed. She has a flair for the dark, the dramatic, and finding ways to rebel against a world that gives her everything she wants---except someone who understands her and loves her for herself. She is always well-dressed and over-the-top, waiting for some adventure to find her. She doesn't want to grow old and feel as if life has passed her by. She likes being different because she's afraid that she's not good at being like everyone else. Lucia loves sweets, and champagne, and won't turn down either for the sake of being ladylike. She is fascinated by astrology.

Lucia dislikes being left alone for too long, or feeling unloved and unwanted. She has a low tolerance for things she considers "boring". Average people don't interest her. In fact, she thinks it's possibly the worst thing anyone can be. She also dislikes those who show a lack of intelligence or creativity. She resents men who prefer a beautiful, empty-headed doll to a woman of spirit. She doesn't believe in the word "no". She hates little yippy dogs and nicknames that make people sound five years old.

Opinions on:

- Sexism:

"Women are greatly underestimated in today's society. If only men knew what a powerful weapon they gave us in doing so, they'd be a good deal smarter. Fortunately, they don't, and they aren't."

- The Marriage Mart:

"Courtship has always been a bit of a meat market, designed to make young people believe in the illusion we have a choice in who we love and who we marry. Rarely are they the same person. At least society is finally being honest in its superficiality."

- The Royal Family:

"Royalty exists to give us something to aspire to become, not that it is anything specifically worthy of emulating. No girl ever dreamed of being swept off her feet by a tailor."

- Homosexuality:

"All the good ones are either married or gay. While inconvenient, neither is an impediment to courtship. Everything can be fixed one way or another."

Theme Song: "Lola Montez"---Volbeat
