i like you very much.
taehyung's eyes widened as he glanced at her with big eyes, biting his bottom lip. he reached a hand out to her, but she ducked and moved away.
"you knew, didn't you? that i was her sister," she mumbled, lips quivering. "that's why you became friends with me. because i am cha haeun's sister."
taehyung felt his heart ache as he watched the tiny girl in front of him break. jieun sniffled as she rubbed away tears that had formed at the edges of her eyes with the back of her hand.
"jieun, i-" he started, but was cut off when she waved a hand in his face.
"it's fine," she said, smiling. taehyung's heart throbbed more, as he watched jieun grin meekly with a ruddy nose and rosey cheeks, with tears dripping down her face.
"it's fine," she repeated, dipping her head down and covering her face with her palm. taehyung dropped his ice cream onto the floor leaned forward and wrapped her into a embrace.
silence reigned in the ferris wheel cabin.
"you idiot," she mumbled between sobs, breathing in the scent of his hoodie.
"i know, i'm sorry," was all he could say.
"i can't believe you just wasted that ice cream. now you have to go get a new one."
taehyung hugged her tighter. she cried.
.
.
.
"i hate you."
"no you don't."
"you're right, i don't," jieun dried up the last of her tears as she heaved a long sigh. "i can't hate you."
she would have been bashful to spout such cheesy words, but at the moment she just felt too exhausted to care.
jieun and taehyung sat on a bench in the theme park, the environment around them was dimming slowly as it was turning dark. the ferris wheel ride was over.
"that day, at the cemetery. you were visiting her too?" jieun asked as she fumbled with her stiff, cold fingers. taehyung nodded. "i waited till you were done and approached the grave after."
"i hate you."
"no you don't."
"you're right, i still can't."
there was a silence, before taehyung spoke up. "i loved her," said taehyung. "we weren't dating, but we loved each other." jieun said nothing, and continued to listen.
"she was crazy. she did whatever pleased her, she cursed a lot. she danced a lot," taehyung chuckled, running a hand through his black tresses. "the both of us were drifting through time, having fun, just the two of us. and i thought i knew everything about her. i guess i didn't."
because she killed herself.
the unspoken words were clear in both of their minds. jieun tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "she was running away."
"from what?"
"i'm not sure. i think, expectations," jieun answered, tucking a stray lock of hair from her face. "she might have seemed like she didn't care about anything, but she cared very much. probably more then any of us."
taehyung remained silent, before saying, "i guess we'll never know."
"we won't. i hope she's dancing amongst the stars, cursing at clouds and singing on the moon," jieun smiled and gazed at the above sky. stars were like the scattered pieces of the sun, gleaming and flickering. she is still here.
jieun shut her eyes, her heart had swelled up with love, sorrow and hurt, and her eyes brimmed with tears. why on earth was she feeling so sad? she glanced around hopelessly, eyes falling on the boy next to her.
"that's why you became friends with me. because i'm cha haeun's sister."
an acute wave of hurt washed over her, and she lowered her gaze to her feet. she was sad because of him.
"i didn't befriend you because you were her sister, you know."
he read her mind. she reddened, pursing her lips into a straight line.
taehyung glanced at the teary eyed girl, looking at her face, red from crying. he watched as she battered her long eyelashes that framed her obsidian eyes, and chewed on her roseate lips as she always did. she looked so vulnerable. he had hurt her.
"i wanted to be your friend because you seemed interesting. no one sleeps openly during their working shift you know?" he grinned cheekily, recalling their first encounter.
jieun glared and punched him in the chest.
"i hate you."
"no you don't."
"you're right. i think i really like you."
