Ring! Ring! Ring!
The sound of my phone ringing filled my ears. I sleepily opened my eyes and grabbed my phone. "Hello?" I answered.
"Where are you?" Malachi's voice sounded from the phone.
Huh? When did he get a phone. "Malachi?" I asked a little confused.
There was a small sigh before Malachi spoke again, "I'm using Dads other phone. He gave it to me for emergencies....you are thirty minutes late!"
"I am so sorry! I will be there shortly!" I said quickly as I jumped off my bed and stumbled out of my room and the front door.
"Hurry please. Levin won't quit crying cuz he thinks you forgot about us." Malachi said s bit irritated.
"Okay okay, I'll hurry. I'm sorry!" I said hurried and soon hung up and reached my car.
I drove to the school and was in a rush as I got out to see Levin and Malachi by the front gate. I rushed up to them, "You two...sorry..." I breathed heavily from running around so much.
Levin sniffed and latched onto my leg, "Don't gooo!" Levin cried.
My heart ached. I can't believe I forgot to set my alarm. I lifted Levin up off the ground and dried his tears with my sleeve. "Sorry I was late. I won't leave, it's okay." I said as I gave him a smile.
Suddenly the hem of my shirt was grabbed and I glanced down at Malachi. He wasn't looking directly at me but I could tell he was a little upset. I patted his head and kneeled down. "Sorry Malachi."
Malachi finally looked up at me with sad eyes and hugged me tightly. "I....thought you weren't going to come anymore.."
I hugged him back and shook my head, "Never. I will always be here for you."
..........
We got back to Aaron's apartment and Levin and Malachi sat down to watch TV. I grabbed them both a small pack of fruit snacks from the cupboard and handed them one. "Thanks." Malachi and Levin both said at the same time as they took the snack.
After I finished a bit of cleaning it was already evening and time for dinner. I glanced at the clock as I made dinner. It was getting late and Aaron still wasn't back yet...so should I make a portion for him? He said he was going to be working overtime so I could always just put his portion in the fridge for him to eat later. I decided on that option and finished cooking. The kids ate happily and then I got them ready for bed.
"Goodnight." I said as I tucked Levin into bed.
Levin smiled sleepily and soon fell asleep. I then tucked Malachi in and he suddenly gave me a hug, his arms tightly wrapped around my neck and his face buried in my shoulder.
"Malachi?" I asked and stroked his head gently.
"Sorry...I just...needed a hug." Malachi said as he soon let go and turned over in his bed so he was facing the wall and not me.
I gave him a slightly sat look but just ruffled his hair and walked towards the door. "Sweet dreams. And if you ever need a hug again I'll be here."
There was silence as I left the room when Malachi mumbled, "If only you really were our mom..."
I finished putting leftovers away and continuously glanced at the clock. It was only 9:30 pm. I wonder how much longer Aaron will be?...He is quite a busy person but I'd like to apologize as quickly as possible. I'd hate things to be awkward like this any further.
I sat on the couch and turned on the TV and some comedy was on so I decided to watch it. Time seemed to drag on slowly as I kept glancing back and forth from the TV to the clock. Soon enough the clock struck 1:30 am and I could barely keep my eyes open when suddenly there was a knock at the front door.
"Hm?" I jumped awake as I was about to drift off and turned my attention to the door. Aaron has a key to the apartment so who could be at the door? I got up and approached the door carefully. Another knock on the door echoed slightly through the apartment as I slowly opened the door.
"Ah! Good, someone is home." A handsome voice spoke and when I opened the door fully there was a man in a suit standing there dragging a familiar face next to him.
"Aaron, are you okay?" I said quickly as I knelt down to his passed out self.
"There was a drinking party for a newcomer and Aaron drank a bit too much." The voice spoke again.
I looked up at the stranger and stood up with a smile, "Thank you for bringing Aaron home."
The stranger smiled politely. His hair was a lightish brown and his eyes were a handsome icy blue. "Heh, I didn't know Aaron had remarried."
Uhg....again with the misunderstandings. "No, I'm not Aaron's wife. I'm just the babysitter." I said.
"Oh, that means I can have you all to myself?" The guy said and put his hand under my chin.
My face burned red and I couldn't speak when suddenly the guy was smacked in the back of the head. "Enough Laurence. Quit flirting with (Y/N)." Aaron said, suddenly off the floor and looked as normal as always. He didn't even have any signs he was drunk just a few second ago.
"C'mon Aaron. It's not like you two are dating or anything." The man 'Laurence' said.
I was a little irritated at his sudden flirtyness but he doesn't seem too bad of a guy....maybe?..
"How do you know?" Aaron asked and I gave him a shocked look.
"Wha-"
"Oh so you two are dating?" Laurence asked.
I was about to say 'no' when Aaron didn't even give me a chance to speak and he said, "Yes. So let us be."
My face flushed red as Aaron pulled me into the house and slammed the door in Laurence's face.
