Silas
"Have her back by ten or you're dead"
I nodded my head and quickly pulled out of the driveway. Even though Nevaeh's mom told me she can spend the night I'll listen to the big scary man and bring her home at ten.
While I took the littlest girls of the family out the older girls were having a spa day. Anthony went to the arcade with Xavier while Nevaeh's dad stayed home to watch t.v.. Everly had to go with Nevaeh sadly.
"So Silas where are we going?"
Myra asked from the back seat. I shrugged my shoulders and continued driving. I usually just wing it. Planning ahead of time isn't my thing when it comes to stuff like this.
"So how are you and Tristan?"
Myra asked Jordan. She stared to giggle and whispered something in her ears. I tried leaning back to eavesdrop but my seatbelt chocked me.
I'll ask her about this when we get wherever we're going. I might just park the car and make her tell me about Tristan and if she doesn't tell me I'm making her walk home.
After many mintues of thinking about where to take the girls I pulled to a manicure place. Since they were still talking about Tristan I picked the farthest parking space from the shop. It's safe to say I still heard nothing.
"Hello welcome to Diamond's Nail Shop, how may I help you?"
"We're here for manicures and pedicures"
I might as well get my nails and feet done too. I have to look clean for my girls. I hate seeing guys with dirt and weed under their nails. They sometimes smell like whole disappointments too.
"Do you have an appointment?"
"No but one of my friends recommended me to this nail shop"
That's how you get a discount on your nails. Nevaeh told me before her aunt knew how to do nails that's what she had did. It worked everytime.
Next time you girls get your nails done say that someone recommended the shop to you.
She smiled and lead us to three empty chair machine looking things. I took a seat and my back immediately started to vibrate. I could get used to being pampered.
While the girls started talking about what color nails they wanted to get I was thinking about mine too.
Pink and blue is too bright, black is too dark, and white is too light. It's so hard picking out a color.
After several mintues of thinking I decided on a clear coat. It's not too bright or too light. It's just makes your nails shine.
"Oh my gosh is that you Silas?"
I looked up only to loom back down. I Pulled my hoodie further down so I could hide my face but it was too late. Emily already made her way to me.
Does this girl have a tracking device on me?
"I was just going around the neighborhood when I saw your car"
I saw one of her friends make the ugliest face ever. She seem to be thinking hard about something in that empty brain of hers.
"I thought we followed him here?"
Emily pinched her thigh and whispered something in her ear. After she finished cursing the girl out she faced me again with a smile.
"This must be Emily. I can smell the desperation seeking through her pores"
Myra said. I'm guessing Neaveh told her about all the things Emily has done to try to make Nevaeh leave the school.
Emily was about to respond but the lady at the front desk cleared her throat. Emily and her four friends turned around with smiles on their faces.
"Are you here to get your nails done?"
"No, we don't have any money"
The lady looked at them up and down and rolled her eyes. I know what she was thinking. Damn they ugly as hell.
"Then leave. Broke people aren't welcomed around here"
"My father can buy this whole shop and make you broke. He's just one call away"
"I'm shaking in my big girl panties. I'm giving you five seconds to leave before I wipe off your eyebrows"
Emily and her people quickly left after that comment. They know there is nothing under those shaded in blocks they call their eyebrows.
"Silas, didn't we see her dad cleaning the park the other day?"
I nodded my head. Jordan says good morning to him every. He's also the janitor at her school. Her dad is a nice guy. He's just trying to provide for his family. His daughter is the problem.
Three ladies came and sat in front of us. The one that sat in front of me had a look of horror on her face. She came blame me though, this is my first time getting my feet done.
She sighed and got her tools. While the other ladies was talking to the girl's in english she was muttering under her breathe in Vietnamese.
Mintues into getting my nails done Neaveh sent me a picture of her toes. She got a silver hologram color.
The contrast between her skin and the nail polish is beautiful. That's exactly what I texted her after I showed the girls.
"So girls, what to you want to talk about? Boys, Tristan, boys maybe?"
At the mention of his name Jordan smiled and looked away. I've officially lost my baby girl.
"Tristan is a very good friend especially to Jordan. He's extra nice to her"
Myra said. Jordan slapped her arm and giggled. Jordan is ten. Ten. When I was ten I was still running around the house with no pants on.
"Is he your boyfriend?"
Even though it kills me to ask her I had to. I have to know if I have to kill Tristan or Kill kill him Tristan.
"No, we're just friends"
"Just friends don't act like you two act around each other"
"You and Nevaeh were just friends last week but now you guys are married with kids"
"Touche Jordan, touche"
Through the time we were getting our nails done the lady that was doing my nails stayed whispering things under her breath In Vietnamese.
Guess who's not getting a tip
What felt like an eternity later our nails were finally done. Jordan and Myra got hot pink while I just got a clear coat.
After I paid for our nails and feet I walked up to the lady that were speaking Vietnamese.
"chúc một ngày tốt lành"
Translation: have a nice day.
Yes I speak Vietnamese. My grandparents, Jordan, and I lived in Vietnam for three years before we came to Miami.
After we left I took the kids to chick-fil-a then to a ice cream place. Just like I was told I brought Myra back at ten o'clock sharp.
"You're two seconds late"
That was the first thing he said before I even had the opportunity to knock on the door. I apologized and walked inside.
Myra was showing off her nails while Nevaeh was sitting down on the couch devouring a plate of chicken wings. Ranch was all over her chin as she licked her fingers.
This is why I love her.
I took a seat next to her and kissed her forehead. She leaned into me and continued to eat her wings. Even though she offered me some wings I knew better than to say yes.
"You want to go home, watch Disney channel movies with the girls, and eat junk food"
"Say less"
I love my little family. It's going to kill me when we have to give Everly back.
