"Can we eat now my stomach is turning inside out"

Silas screamed from the couch. Everyone turned back at him with a look of disgust. He ate all the sweet rolls that was put on the table two minutes ago.

I'm not gonna lie those sweet rolls taste better when you squish it.

I couldn't even experience the taste because Silas ate them all. All thirty of them. Once he realised everyone didn't like him he be quiet and hang his head low.

I went up to him and sat down on his lap. Even though I didn't like him right now I still love him. I was on him for like two seconds before my dad pulled me up by my shirt.

Silas took that as his opportunity to run away. My dad already had a talk with him. He's going to kill Silas.

"Where's your boyfriend?"

My aunt asked as she scanned the room. Silas was coming to me but he saw I was talking to her. He slowly backed away and went in the corner where he was safe from her sewer breathe.

"Where's your edges?"

I heard my mom snicker from behind me. She started whistling and looking around the room once she realised that everyone heard her.

"You're really rude. And that outfit isn't appropriate for a family gathering"

"Neither is your lace front"

I said. My mom busted out in fits of daughter when I said that. She occasional let out snorts as she clutched her stomach on the couch.

I wasn't even wearing anything inappropriate. It was just some ripped shorts and a t shirt. She was wearing a skirt that was two inches long with a crop top and stripper heels.

If you want to feel attacked wear ripped jeans to a family gathering.

She's just trying to seduce some men. I hope she knows that everyone here excerpt for Silas is family. She's been doing some Alabama relative dating shit for a while now.

"Well I heard you're failing math"

"Well I heard you never graduated"

"I have my G.E.D"

"At least I know my D.A.D"

She gasped with her eyes wide open. My grandma looked at her and laughed. She knows damn well I'm right. My grandma is married to my mom's dad. My aunt's dad is no where to be found.

I picked up my wine and took a sip. She was just standing in front of me looking stuck.

"When I was you're age I wasn't drinking"

"You can't drink when we're pregnant"

"How do you know that? Who's spreading my business around like that"

She screamed at everyone. In my family there's no secrets. I've been hearing tea about everyone in my family since I was eight. My mom talks very loud and my dad is even louder since he's haitian.

With her sudden outburst my grandma gave her the look. She gave her what my dad called 'the haitian side eye'.

"Can we please eat now?"

We all turned around to the person. Silas put his hand up and backed away. I know he didn't say that because he doesn't sound like that.

The person who said it was a complete stranger. I haven't seen that guy before in my life. This happens every year. Somebody from the street smells the food in our house and decides to walk in.

"Yes let's eat"

Everyone erupted in cheers. My mom has been stalling for minutes now because she wanted to show off her outfit.

All I saw was people rushing to the table at full force. The kids were getting trampled over while some of the adults were falling.

When I walked into the dining room I saw Silas trying to fight off my aunt. She was trying to sit next to him when she knows damn well that's my seat.

Silas snatched her wig and threw it in the living room. She put her hand on her head and ran to retrieve her dry, matted, stinky wig.

"Let the dinner begin"

My mom yelled. Everyone took their plate and ran to the where the food was. No one wants to be left with only salad like last year.

"You guys started without me"

Myra said as she ran and grabbed two plates. She pushed some people out of her way to get some food. Last year she was the one that only had salad as her thanksgiving dinner.

"Hi Jordan"

I said. She was just waiting for Myra to bring back her food for her. Jordan is too young to experience thanksgiving dinner with back people.

You have to push, pull of wigs, step on toes and trample over people so you can get the good food. If you're last in line you're either going to eat salad or my aunt's dry ass corn bread.

After Silas grandparents placed their food on the table they grabbed their plates and went to wait in line. Since Silas was already in the front I skipped him causing the line to scream at me on protest.

"Is this y'all house? No? That's what I thought"

I said making everyone laugh. As I was taking a little bit of every food I felt someone staring at me. I looked up only to see my aunt looking at me in disgust with her wig on backwards.

"You're so skinny, get some more food"

"And you need to put some back"

She scoffed and continued to stack  food on her plate. Her excuse is that She's eating for two. She wasn't pregnant last year and she was still eating five plates of food.

After everyone got their food we all sat down to pray over our dinner. Just like last year my grandma had to do the prayer.

"Heavenly father I'll like to thank you for allowing everyone to come here today and spend some time as a family. I'll like to think my daughter for holding Thanksgiving dinner in her beautiful house. Please heavenly father watch over the people who took the corn bread because it's  crunchy and can possibly kill someone. In the name of Jesus I pray amen"

It took everything in me not to bust out laughing at the part about the corn bread. My aunt know her corn bread is not good at all. Her oldest daughter even told her that.

As everyone dug into their food the house became quiet. We were too busy enjoying our food to hold a conversation with anybody. I was enjoying my time until my aunt spoke.

"You're still living the single life huh?"

"Your husband still on that trip to the grocery store huh?"

"You can't get a man acting like that"

"Didn't your third husband leave you for a man?"

Various coughs were heard throughout the table. Maybe I shouldn't have said that but she's looking for it. I was quietly eating but she just had to come and ruin my day.

As the dinner went on she didn't say not one word to me. She just silently ate her food while occasionally cursing me out under her breathe.

After we were all finished eating the grown ups and kids spilt up into two groups. I was stuck with the kids even though I'm way too old.

I sat down on the couch and went on Instagram. All I saw was photoshopped pictures of food on a table. People love posting what they ate like anyone cares. They be taking pictures from online anyways.

"Always on that phone whether you're in or out the house"

"Always on your knees whether you're in or out the church"

I didn't have to look up for me to know who it was. She's been bothering me since the moment she got here. She knows she can't bother my mom because my mom loves knives.

I've been trying to be respectful. I really am but she's testing my patience.

"I have a feeling I'm not wanted so I'll just go"

She said with a fake pout. She wanted someone to oppose to her leaving but no one said anything. My uncle held the door open and gestured for her to leave.

When she left all the men took a deep breathe. They can walk freely without her hitting on them, slapping their butts, or accidently falling into their laps.

"Now we can really let loose"

Someone screamed. The music got louder and everyone's smile got wider. I felt more free knowing that I won't have to worry about being attacked.

I looked around the room trying to find Silas. He was in the corner of the room dancing with Everly, Jordan,  and Myra.

Ever since Everly came she has been glued to Silas. Everytime I would try to get her she would cry so I gave up.

As I looked at everyone's smiling faces  I couldn't Help but feel a wave of appreciation hit me. Not many people have a kind loving family.

I'm very thankful for my blood family and my little family.
