Your words were candy floss to me
However much room they took up
Melted down to nothing
If I looked at them
But it's alright
At least I'm getting any sugar at all

My words were chewing gum to you
You could pop some whenever you wanted
And chew them for hours and hours
But the flavour was never strong enough for you

Your words were lemon juice to me
They made me screw my face up
If I wanted some sweetness from them
I had to add my own sugar
But it's alright
I like lemons anyway

My words were hot chocolate to you
They were warm and sweet
Made you feel safe with me
But you complained that it burned your mouth in the end

Your words were toffee to me
I took them as a gift
But they stuck my teeth together
So I couldn't object, or even speak
But it's ok
I can just listen to you instead

But I think
Your sweetness is artificially flavoured
Sometimes I crave for my next sugar rush but
I'd rather wash my mouth out with vinegar
And clean my insides with bleach
Than eat another sweet again
