Summary: Basically me screaming at the bridge scene when they are walking over it because it's been 20 YEARS since that bridge had been checked and something could have happened to them. So here is me writing that frustration away with some angst, whump, fluff and some seeked facts.

It had been almost 3 hours since they started walking beside the water in the hopes they could cross somewhere when they came across the bridge. Ellie had been done with walking beside the water for about 1,5 hour. She hadn't been complaining but she sure as hell didn't like that it had taken them so long.

Joel looked back at her and smiled a little bit when he saw the bridge. But also promptly told her they would take a break. For Joel it was mostly an excuse to check the bridge out. It had been almost 20 years now that the apocalypse started and this also meant that most bridges hadn't been checked for years. This could also mean that some bridge wouldn't be stable enough to hold them.

Because of this Joel would always try and check the bridges the best he could. Sometimes this helped but there had also been times that he hadn't been this lucky. He wouldn't know that when he stopped checking that he hadn't checked some things. Joel had been thinking that the bridge would be okay. However the bridge they had to walk over had been checked a year before the outbreak and 2 years after the outbreak started it would have been checked for a big check up.

However because of the stuff that had been happening the bridge hadn't been checked that year before the outbreak. because of this nobody had even seen how bad the bridge was hanging in there.

Joel turned back around when he found nothing really wrong he walked back to where Ellie was busy with making a fire. She knew that it wouldn't help all that much but at the moment she didn't care if someone could see them. She was hungry. When the fire was done Ellie began to heat up some stuff. Joel told her that the bridge was looking okay but at the same time he told her that they had to be cautious with walking the bridge.

It was beginning to get darker. So they decided that it would be better to wait until the next day. Because if something were to happen then they could at least see shit. Ellies words. Not Joels.

(This time skip has been brought by me and my incompetent ass with writing these scene's)

It was just shimmering when Ellie woke up. She had been waking up kinda early for quite some time now. She woke Joel up because she wanted to get going. When everything was packed up and their existence had been washed away they began to walk back to the bridge.
They began to walk to the bridge. They just started walking over it when it began to creak a little. Joel stopped walking when he heard it. Ellie also stopped for a moment before she turned to him. "I think we need to get out of here fast now." Joel nodded and they began to speed walk. However before they get there fully the part before them buckles a bit and a part breaks off.

Joel pulls Ellie to him so that she stays with him. She grabs his shirt when she feels the bridge tremble again. Joel looks around for a way out. When the bridge buckles and it breaks through the middle. It feels like it's slow motion with the way they fall down.

Joel tries to grab her better but when they hit the water his grip loses on Ellie. He swims up and takes a breath before frantically looking around. "Ellie!?" He looks around frantically for a moment before taking a deep breath and dives into the water. Here he looks around before he sees her struggling with being stuck.

He dives farther down and grabs her shoulders before pulling her. He sees that she is losing the battle of holding her breath. He pulls another time before she is loose. He begins to swim up and when he is finally up he takes a deep breath and looks down at Ellie. She is coughing and trying to take a breath.

He looks around for a moment and then swims to the other side so that they didn't fall in for nothing. When they get to the coast side he pulls her up and then lets himself sit for a moment. She is heaving on the ground and when he sees that he begins to thump her back. When she is done she almost falls into the barf.

He wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her into his lap. She wraps her hands around his shirt. She is crying he realizes now. "It's alright, kiddo. It's going to be alright." She bods against his chest. They will feel this for a long time because of how wet they got from the fall and that their stuff had been wet too. But he is happy that they survived this.

So I hope you guys liked this! I honestly didn't really think how this was gonna go. But for some reason I kinda like this chapter. Welp anyway. 3 done, 25 to go!
