28 & 30. Staples & tape - TLOU

Summary: Basically just a story of how Ellie sees people with her fantasy through drawing but also through creating stuff.

She had been younger when she had begun to draw stuff. She hadn't really wanted to do it because of the stuff that was hard to come by but at the same time it had been something that she liked whenever she was stressed or when Riley wasn't with her because of some sort of punishment Fedra would give her.

However, whenever she wasn't disruptive and some of the people from Fedra were somewhat okay they would seek around for stuff for kids outside of the gates once a month to see if they could find something. Mostly to keep the kids busy because they didn't want to watch the kids at all.

After she began to draw more she also began to focus on just trying to get her fantasy up. But she also began to draw about things that she thought would have looked like if the apocalypse never happened. She had some good fantasy and Riley had always been there to help her because she had some pictures from her parents with her when she got there and in some of them were some pictures of how the world really looked like. It was different from how Ellie had imagined it. But other than that she began to draw.

She would sometimes do realism but sometimes also how she thought it had looked like. She would mostly draw after they had been watching something where the old world had been on. It was something she didn't know was something she had liked until she began to do that. However, drawing only landscapes was something she did not always want to do so because of this she also began to draw Riley because she had felt like she wanted her friends in her sketchbooks. She had been done with drawing Riley when she had disappeared.

Because of this she hadn't changed anything about the drawing and had begun to draw some other things. Like the people at school. She had been doing that for almost a month when Riley had come back. It was something she hadn't expected so she had been leaving the drawings on her bed.

She had walked in on Riley going through the drawings to see what she had been drawing. When Ellie had seen that she had grabbed the drawings from Riley and stuffed them in her drawing book before putting them in her backpack. She had always felt like her backpack had been her safe haven because she could bring it with her everywhere.

She had brought her backpack with her to the mall when Riley had asked to go there together. It had been something fun they had done together but the moment Riley hadn't been herself anymore after the bite it was something that was out of a nightmare for Ellie. Because of this she had gone back to drawing that nightmare whenever she had the chance when she got older. In the hopes it would help.

It however took longer for to get used to Joel. Mostly because she never had the time to be able to draw them together on the road and because of this she couldn't get his side the best way. She had some good angles but after they got to Jackson for the first time she hadn't known how to draw him the best way. Because she felt like it was something out of her dream. But also because she didn't have the chance to even do something about it.

When they went on the road and Joel got hurt she would sit besides him with her hand on his chest while she was drawing some things. It was difficult to do because she wanted to be sure that she could feel any changes but she also had to change the drawing from time to time. Because of this she would begin to draw on the floor with her knees together and besides Joel.

It may have been somewhat weird to see because Joel had been hurt. But this way she could have some peace. Yes she couldn't do much because she had to prevent the pencils from running out and not using it too much. But she did draw Joel laying on the mattress a lot with her fingers. Because she would go over her drawing with her finger sometimes. Not touching of course but in a way of going over it. She would also draw Riley in two ways. The one in her human form but also one in her clicker form. It was hard to do that sometimes because it was a bad memory but it did help her with her nightmares.

When she was hurt and she got her backpack back the first thing she did was look if the drawings were still there. Forgetting she had put them in Joel's backpack for a moment before remembering and looking. She was happy when she found them and even more happier when she found out that Joel liked to watch her when she was quiet and she was just drawing.

It became their way of communicating. She would draw a sun if she was somewhat okay and a moon if she wasn't sure. She would draw clouds over the sun if she had a bad day. It was something Joel thought of when he realized that was sort of a selective mute. And because he wanted to know how she felt before doing something to help her to be able to expect a sort of reaction out of things he would help her with.

When they got back to Jackson Ellie didn't really know what to do with Joel's lie. So she began to draw more in the shed after Joel had fixed it. But it would also be a shed for them both when she got older and she began to think less about the vaccine. Not because of the fact she thought it was useless but because she thought that maybe Joel had a reason. So she began to draw the signs that were there. But she would also kinda ignore them.

When she was 16 Joel told her what had happened in the hospital. Sure it was late to tell her but it was also something she didn't know was something she did want to know. She was angry at first until he revealed he didn't want to lose her over something that wouldn't fix the world. Not properly at least.

So she began to draw Joel some more. But this time in a way of how she saw him. They were after all two people who could barely handle feelings. Let alone the big ones. Because of this she began to draw Joel in a way she saw him the best. As a hero because that was who he was for her. Yes he did something bad by not asking her first. But even she could have seen the manipulation from Marlene now from a mile away. It was something she didn't know how to act upon let alone know for sure it was manipulation.

With time and loads of drawings they began to heal together. This made her 19th birthday even worse when the blond haired girl showed up. It was something she hadn't expected. Because she had basically forgotten that the man did have family. But also that the man probably didn't want to tell his daughter about the fact that the kid with the vaccine was a living being with a family.

But the thing is nobody knew about her properly. Apart from her being an orphan they knew nothing. They probably hadn't even planned about the fact that Joel would bond with her because he had some hard feelings but he needed someone to care for. Yes he had Tess before all of that. But Tess would care for him and not the other way around. He had to care for someone else. and that was something other people would never fully understand until they would lose their own kid.

Even Ellie had some difficulties with this when she was younger and she and Joel would sometimes fight and she would say something that Joel wasn't her dad. But that was something she would regret loads of times. After all, a family could be family in all but blood. And that was something she began to learn until Abby came to them.

She had been patrolling with Joel and Tommy when they found the girl. Ellie had been thinking about the fact that maybe she could place her in her mind but she didn't know for sure because she didn't really remember a lot about the hospital. She did however tell Tommy and Joel to not say their names because something felt off. Of course they didn't listen and she honestly would have slapped herself in the face if the timing wasn't so damn stressful.

The moment Joel was shot in the knee Ellie knew that she had to do something. So she did the one thing she could think of. She did remember the girl and she had stood up from where she was knocked to and had walked up to Abby. She hadn't expected the girl to be so big. But what she should have expected was that they would fight back. On the other hand she would not go down without a fight. She had told Dina and Jesse to come get them if they wouldn't be back by sun down. It was something she had been doing a lot when she would go out with only Tommy and Joel. Because yeah they were capable with shit but that didn't mean that they had to be alone all the time.

So she walked up to Abby and grabbed her by the pony tail before she could do something and grinned a bit. "Why don't you try and fight his daughter? Because he is just an old man." she had seen how Joel had looked at her a bit shocked. Because yeah they had seen each other as father and daughter for years now but they had never really outright said it to each other that they were that. So this was the first time she really acknowledged it.

"After all, he killed your dad. What would be even more revenge than killing me and giving him the same pain as you have right now?" yeah it was something she shouldn't have said but she also didn't want Joel to die. She could maybe hold the girl off for a little while until Dina and Jesse would come to the rescue. It was also harder for her to remember exactly what Dina was to the doctor. "Or I would say don't because if you kill me he will follow you to kill you. But it's also the other way around. I will kill you if you kill him." And that was something she knew for sure she would do. yeah it was something she wouldn't want to do but she was willing to kill for Joel.

Abby turned to properly look at her to be sure she had heard that right only to be met with a face that knew for sure what she was talking about. It was also something Ellie would follow along with. Sure it could take a while to find them again but she wanted to be sure that she would get her revenge.

In the end the girl let them go by just walking away. But before she would be fully away she would knock Ellie and Joel out to be sure they couldn't be followed. Yes she had been harsher with Joel but she did realize that Ellie had been right and that the revenge would never end until someone would end it.

However the shot in the knee did mean for Joel that he would have to lose his knee and that he could no longer patrol because of that. What he didn't know was that Ellie would be by his side for a long time and would use that time to just draw a lot with him. She would also help Joel with crafting some stuff he could maybe do in his free time. But she also began to make stuff for him to be able to walk somewhat well. Yes he could never walk normally again but that didn't mean he could never patrol again. So Ellie began to craft aids to help him with walking. It would consist of a walking stick but also some wheelchairs. Yes it was harder for her to make those because she needed wheels. But she would seek them whenever she was sure that Joel wouldn't be alone or when he was sleeping again to heal.

In the end the drawing helped the both of them in a way nobody would have ever predicted when Ellie had been younger.
