Chapter Three
Deidre
This couldn't be possible. But it could. It is.
Deidre always knew that really the Society is perfect, they make no mistakes. Then Simon came home and it was all shattered.
So she shrugged. When in doubt, shrug.
"Well we can't do anything about it anyways. Nobody would believe us, and I'm sure the Society would kill us if they found out we knew. It's just a bunch of useless knowledge now." Deidre said disappointedly.
Simon's eyes twinkled. "We could go to the Society and find out for sure."
Deidre shook her head. "Simon no. We can't just...barge into the Society. Besides I can't leave Mom alone; you know, the incident."
He nodded. "Yeah I know. We could call someone and have them come over, we could tell them-"
"Tell them what Simon? Are you just going to call them and say 'Hey so we're pretty sure that the Mark is a lie so we're gonna go break into the Society. We don't know how long we'll be so don't wait up'?! First of all that's treason talk! They'd report us and it'd be all over. I'm not doing this."
Simons's eyes twinkled again. Great. "We don't have to break in. We could pretend to be apart of the Society. They're having a huge World meeting dinner this weekend; we could pretend to be from Canada or something."
"Canada? Are you serious? We're the only country with Marks. How are we suppose to pretend to be Canadian if we have Marks? Answer that and maybe I'll go." She folded her arms.
"Sometimes makeup has its perks."
"What?"
"I'm saying we'd use makeup to conceal it. Now are you coming with me or not?" Simon sat forward a bit, his work uniform a bit crusty from the rush of events.
Deidre was taken aback. She hesitated before saying, "One night. That's it."
