"Mindy! Wake up, sweetheart! School's not going to come to you!"

I was lying in my bed having the best dream ever about what happened after the war! After the Splatfest, my mom soon came back home. I decided to pay her a visit and stay for a day. She brought home some school supplies for me, so I would be ready for one of my greatest challenges yet; high school.

"Ugh! But mom I don't feel like it! It's too far!" I moaned pulling my blanket over my head.

"Did I mention that you only have 10 minutes before the school bell rings?" My mom asked. I snapped my eyes open in shock."WHAT?! MOM WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME TO WAKE UP EARLIER?!"

I quickly went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. My mouth was completely filled with toothpaste, but I didn't want to worry about it. I changed into my school clothes. Even though we could wear whatever we wanted, I still wanted my outfit to look...professional.

I ran downstairs to the kitchen and saw that mom already fixed breakfast for me. A plate of toast was sitting on the table. One had grilled cheese on it and the other had Nutella. A glass of orange juice was next to it as well.

Do I dare try to drink that orange juice...?

"Well it's about time, dear! I was afraid you would have slept all day!" she smiled."I'd love to hear how the rest of your summer was when you get back."

"C...n't...alk...ri...t..n..w...mom!" I said shoving a whole piece of toast in my mouth. I quickly swallowed my chunk and started searching for my backpack."OOH WHERE'S MY BACKPACK?!" I asked leaving my plate on the table. "Sweety calm down. It's right here!" She smiled holding my back pack.

"But what about the pencils, my folders, my binder, my...my...WHAT'S MY LOCKER COMBINATION?! WHERE ARE MY CLASSES? I'M GONNA MAKE A FOOL OUT OF MYSELF TODAY!" I said walking back and forth worried.

Mom smiled and started to laugh."Mindy Nagisa O'Link, you do realize that today is Sunday, right?" I stood and paused. I couldn't believe what she just said. I can't believe that she ruined my beauty sleep!

"Mom! This is my last day that I can actually sleep late! My dream was interrupted because of you." I said poking my lip out.

Mom started to burst out laughing."Oh wow! You should really see your face!" I folded my arms."It's not funny..." Mom made a weak smile and put her hands on my shoulders. "Sweet Tangerine, there's nothing to worry about! There're a lot of squid kids who don't know what they're doing. Here, I have an entire map of the high school." she beamed giving me a piece of paper."All you have to do is go around in a square, really! Although...there is a subject on there that you're probably going to hate..."

I looked down and saw my class subjects. I saw the one class that I hated the most.

Graffiti swimming.

"WHAT?!" I asked. I absolutely hated that class. When it comes to graffiti, I'm an expert, but graffiti swimming is on a whole different level! I only joined the turf troopers this summer and I've been having trouble swimming around in the ink. Every second I'm by myself swimming, a random squid kid or a group of squid kids see my trail, hunt me down and kill me.

I may be a bit claustrophobic...

"I had a bit of trouble with that class too, but I'm sure you can handle it!" Mom beamed."I believe in you."

I smiled brightly. This is what I love about parents. They always love you no matter what your flaw and they always know how to talk to you...even if it is in the most awkward of ways...

"So, did you have fun while I was gone?" she asked. I smiled."I have SO many things to tell you!"

"Lay them on me, kiddo!" she beamed."I learned so many things about turf wars! Me,Lucas, and Riley have been catching up on things! I made a new friend named James! I had a chance to try out so many new weapons I've never seen before! I don't even think Dad knows about them! I've bought so many clothes. All of the squid kids are nice to me. There were a lot of Splatfests that have been going on and I've only missed one for a reason."

"And what reason is that, honey?" she asked. I hesitated.

Oh crud...I can't tell her about the situation thats happened in Inkopolis! Thank God I ride a train there! If mom found out, she'd probably make me stay away from there or worse...

"Um...I've been practicing really hard. I've even picked up a few skills as well!" I said smiling awkwardly. "That's good, honey! That's my future champ! You know I was quite the turf war trooper back in the day..."

Oh boy, here we go again...

"Yep, I was a tough one! I would win a lot of battles. Everyone would give me compliments. I don't mean to brag, sweetheart. I eventually met your dad in a ranked battle. First, it started off when he kept turning into a squid for no reason. He then saw me and the suspense was super intense. After that, I saw that no one else was around, so I did the same thing. Things just sort of happened after that. Next thing you know, I'm living with a turf war champion! We had fun it that battle! I'm so glad I met him that day!" She beamed. She would always tell me this story."Anything else you have to tell me?"

I hesitated and started to blush."Actually...yeah..." I said rubbing my hair."It's about Lucas...he's...he's my boyfriend now!" My mom looked me directly in the eyes and hesitated. She couldn't believe what she just heard."Say what now?"

I snapped my eyes open. I instantly regretted ever saying that for one reason."Oh mom please don't tell dad! You know how dads are!"

Mom laughed."Don't worry. I know that feeling! I won't tell him. That's my girl! So? How'd he end up with you? Give me the deets!"

Did she really just say deets?

"Well...one day he told me his feelings and how he was glad he met me. I couldn't believe it at first and I was so happy!" I beamed. Mom kept looking at me and smiling.

"And now...I'm going back to bed." I said slowly walking off. Mom beamed."Aww, sweety! That's so romantic! Make sure you wake up at 8! I have a surprise for you!"
