I Can't Let You Go

The next day
Mindy's P.O.V.

It was only a day after eating pizzas, Doritos, drinking Mountain Dew, and having a successful win on team art. I decided to go and visit my mom again. I wanted to tell her how my first week at school was. It was early in the morning and waking up everyday at 6:00 has gotten me used to waking up early in the morning.

Right now, it was only 8:00 A.M. I decided to let my besties stay at Flounder Heights and sleep. My home was only a few blocks away from Inkopolis. It hadn't been too long before I made it there.

As I stood on the door mat of my house, I knocked on the door.

KNOCK KNOCK!

.........

There was no answer, so I tried once again. There was no luck.

"WHO'S THERE?! I don't know who you think you are knocking on my front doorstep, but this is private property!"

The sound of my mom was being heard. I saw a tiny tint in the window as if someone was trying to see me. I guess it was hard to tell who I was considering the fact that I was wearing warm clothing. It was a bit chilly. I hugged myself as a breeze ran right through me.

The citizens of Inkopolis would usually go to sleep at 7:00 on the dock, so time has been a bit off lately ever since the Octarians came.

"It's me, mom!" I shouted. My mom paused and then closed the tint in the window she was staring out of and walked to the door to unlock it. A woman with extremely bad bed hair was seen. She had on wrinkly work clothes, but she doesn't start going on her shift until 10. I figured she may have had the clothes on from yesterday.

"Mindy! It's good to see you again, hon bun!"she smiled as she gave me a hug. She felt the cold autumn wind blow from the outside."Come on in, sweety. I don't want you to get a cold. You seem to be bundled up tight."

As she let me inside the house, I noticed that the living room was cleaned and spotless. My mom would always work hard, but I think she needs a break to be honest.

As I sat on my couch, I looked outside my window to see a ferris wheel in a far away view. The carnival is coming to town soon and will probably be where the first prep rally is held.

My mom stepped into the kitchen and made a cup of coffee."So, how was the first week for you? Have you been working on your turf war skills? Did you make any new friends? Is anyone bullying you? Momma's will come up there and wreck them!"

I sat there and sweatdropped."Um, I don't think I'm gonna have a problem with that, mom. My first week was awesome. I'm a bit concerned about you though, mom..."

"What about me, hon?"

"Well..."I looked around the room."You've seem to be busy lately. Don't you think you need a break, mom?"

My mom blinked and shook her head."Well whether you know it or not, things have been pretty hectic around here and I'm trying my best to keep things right around here. Speaking of being busy, we're gonna have another family cookout soon."

"Oh really? Can you make some more Octo balls this year? I really love those."

"Sure thing."She said as she plopped down on the couch."Momma needs some more sleep..."

Or maybe I shouldn't have come here this early...

I notice that my mom had a piece of candy in her hand. I always wondered why people eat sweets why they're stressed. Maybe it's because stressed spelled backwards is desserts.

"Mom, you can't eat that yet. It's not healthy."I admitted."Especially if it's early in the morning."My mom's eyes snapped open in shock."Well well well, this is the first time you've said anything about being healthy."

I shrugged."Just sayin'. I'm gonna go up to my room for a bit."

"You want some breakfast before you go?"Mom asked me. I nodded my head and walked up the stairs.

As I entered my room, I saw that the room still looked the same. The familiar scent that was similar to orange juice filled the room. The same colorful room hadn't changed a bit.

The first thing I did is something you wouldn't possibly believe. I turned into my Squid form and jumped on my bed while turning into both of my forms over and over again. I'm surprised my mom didn't hear me laughing downstairs.

When I was done having fun, I turned my phone on and turned on my Squidpad app. It's a book reading app that I enjoy going on the most when I'm bored. Right now, I was writing a story about a few squids who became the best of friends from a recent scene of tragic events. They go through many tough challenges along their journey while discovering the one thing that defines all of them.

It's pretty interesting really...well...to me it is... I don't know what all of the other squid kids around the world think. After I was finished with my first chapter, I turned on my T.V.

"And that was our important morning news flash brought to you by Tirtus Shell, Buddy Jellyfish and Veronica Clam! Make sure to catch us again tonight, folks on Channel 5!"

Why does the news seem so boring nowadays? I think they're running out of things to talk about. Things happen every single day I mean come on, people!

I looked off to the side and saw a few of my little doll squids I had ever since I was a little baby squid. I was six years old and that was the age when my mom noticed that my human form was starting to develop a bit better. A different show was about to come on. It was the Squid Sisters...again...

I watch their channel more than I should have. It's actually the only T.V. news show I watch other than WKRG. I would turn to Nickelodeon and watch a bit of Spongebob for all I care. Spongebob has been going downhill for a long time, but it's starting to get good again.......I hope it stays good.

C: "HEY ALL YOU SQUIDDIES!"

M: "Boy do we have some juicy stuff for you today..."

C: "You've gotta say it like you mean it, Marie!"

M: "I would, but I honestly don't feel like it. Why do we have to announce Inkopolis's news everyday? We're supposed to be pop stars not news reporters."

C: "Y-You're kind of killing the mood here, Marie."

Marie stared at the television and sweat dropped. Callie folded her arms.

M: "Heh...sorry, people."

C: "We've got some special news for you!"

FLASH!

The screen changed and showed an image of Inkopolis. The Great Zapfish was shown on top of the Battle Tower. The tower and the whole city seemed to be fully repaired.

M: "That's right, people! The Great Zapfish has been saved! Exactly what disastrous tragedy led to the kidnapping the Great Zapfish?"

C: "Huh...the world may never know. Luckily, there were many brave squids who defended Inkopolis from any more disasters. There were especially some who were un-experienced...no offence."

M: "Inkopolis is settled in peace once again, but the question is...will something likethis happen again...and if it does, will it be soon?!"

C: "Don't jinx us, Marie!"

M: "....Uh...."

C: "ALRIGHT, EVERYONE! THAT'S ALL WE HAVE FOR TODAY!"

M: .....

C: "Marie!"

The famous popstar was lost in thought.

C: "Marie!"

M: "Oh...um...and remember to..."

Both: "STAY FRESH!"

Well that was interesting...

I turned my T.V. off. I looked on my shelf to see a Squiffer gun. It was my dad's main weapon. I really don't see how he managed to make it with that thing.

I walked over to my shelf and carefully grabbed the Squiffer. The gun was still shiny and new as always. It was decorated and was shimmering from the reflection of the sun.

"You'll always be my hero..."I told myself imagining I was telling my dad that.

"MINDY, BREAKFAST IS READY!"My mom shouted. I quickly ran downstairs holding on to my dad's ink gun. When I made it downstairs, I could smell the aroma off bacon and eggs with toast on the side. I instantly felt it as my taste buds were tingling.

"Thanks, mom!" I smiled. "Your welcome, sweetheart!" she beamed. She then noticed that I was holding dad's gun."Ah! I see you've taken an interest in that gun!"

"Dad never showed me this one before. He showed me all of his weapons except this one."

"Your father was going to save the best for last, but before he could, he had to leave for work sadly..." Mom said as she began to feel depressed. I looked at the gun and back at her.

"Mom, do you think I could try this one out?" I asked her. My mom was shocked."I never thought I'd hear the day...Sure you can, hon. I'm sure you're father will be proud of how far you've come."

Tears started to form in her eyes."Don't cry, mom." I said with a weak smile."I can't help it, honey."she said wiping them away.

BEEP BEEP!

"Woops! Momma's gotta take this."she said as she pulled her phone out. Her phone was ringing."Hey, Arnold..."she then walked off.

I continued to eat with a smile on my face after hearing my mom say my dad's name. After I was done, I put my plate in the dish washer. I quickly ran to the living room where my mom was.

"Yep, we're having another family cookout."she smiled. I quickly hid myself around the kitchen corner so my mom wouldn't see me. It's rude to eavesdrop on a conversation.

.............

"I...what do you mean you can't come?! Arnold, you can't just bail out on this special occasion!"

.............

"Name one time this year you've been here for your daughter!"

...............

"Mmhm! That's what I thought! Arnold, if you're not gonna make it to the family cookout then at least tell me that you'll be here when we move into our house in Callimari country!" She said as she turned around to make sure I wasn't listening to her discussion.

I couldn't believe what I just heard. W-We're moving again?!

I stepped away from my hiding spot revealing myself to my mom. My mom opened her eyes in shock."M-Mindy...."

"Mom...are we moving again?"

"I'll call you back, Arnold."she said as she quickly turned the phone off. She sighed and eyed me."Yes hon, we are..."

"But why?!"

"I found a new job in Callimari Country and this'll be a chance to live closer to your dad." Mom said with a weak smile.

I began to feel teary-eyed."But mom... No! My life is here in Inkopolis!" I know I want to see my dad really badly and mom knows that too, but do we really have to do this?

"I'm sorry. The decision has already been made--"

"How long were you going to keep this from me?" I asked as my voice became bitter."I...I was gonna tell you..."

A lot of thoughts were in my mind right now."I'm sorry mom, but...I think I need to be alone right now..." I said as I walked to the door.

"Mindy wait!" My mom shouted.

"I'll...I'll see you later, mom..."I mumbled.

On my way home, I pulled out my phone and texted Lucas.

M: Hey Jolly Rancher, I need to talk to you for a moment.

L: Sure, what's up?

M: 😢

L: What's wrong, Starburst?

M: I'll talk to you when I get back. It's really important. Ttyl!

Flounder Heights

I made it back to the hotel. It was almost time for breakfast to be served to all of the residents in the hotel. Some squids decided that they would do a bit of turf battling for crazy reasons.

I managed to make it to the top of Flounder Heights without getting caught. I sat down for a moment to think about...well...everything. I saw a few squids working together on their team tactics.

"Psst! Hey, skittles!"

I looked around to find out who was whispering to me. The only squid I saw that was near me was Wesley. Wesley is a school friend of mine who's been calling me Skittles the whole week. He's given everyone nicknames actually.

"Hey, Wesley!" I said with a weak smile. He could tell that I was upset."What's wrong?"

"I'm moving, Wes...." I said softly. Wes had a sympathetic look on his face."Oh...yeah, I've been there. When I first moved here, it was hard making new friends. I've made a few like Cenede and Sky. You just have to get used to everything that's all."

SWOOSH!

A blob of ink was shot up in the sky. Wesley quickly hid himself."Hey, don't tell the other team that I'm here, alright? I'm waiting for the perfect moment to get my Kraken on!"

SPLAT!

"Tarter sauce! They're coming for me!" Wesley shouted. I smiled. His voice is actually a bit like Spongebob's except with...a more boyish tone.

"Good luck on the battlefield, Wes!" I beamed."Thanks, Skittles! I'll tell you later if we won or not. See ya later!"He shouted as he jumped off the tall building. He activated his special attack. I chose to stay and watch the whole battle. The whole thing was pretty intense. Wesley's team won.

I clapped and smiled. Wesley saw me and smiled. All the other squids on his team saw me and waved. "See you later, Wesley!" I shouted as I waved goodbye heading back down to my dorm room. I texted Lucas once again and told him that I was here.

As soon as I made it back to my room, I changed out of my jacket and took my cap off. I then walked into Lucas's room. The blue head was watching T.V.

"Guess who!" I said with a weak smile.

"Is it...my oh-so sweet most favorite person in the whole entire world?" Lucas asked smiling.

"You know it!" I answered as I lied down on his belly."So, what'd you need to talk to me about, Minds?" Lucas asked.

I told him everything. Lucas looked like he had a hard time believing this. "This can't be I mean...you just moved here this summer!"

"I know, Lucas. I'm gonna miss you a whole bunch." I exclaimed as I quickly sat up and gave my sweet boyfriend a hug. Lucas then kissed me on the cheek. My face was flustered. "I'm...I'm gonna miss being in your arms. I can't let you go..."

"Me either, Mindy." Lucas said."So, how long is it going to be before you move?"

"I...don't know actually." I answered. I quickly thought about Riley and Soup."Oh boy...how am I gonna tell Riley and Soup? I know they'll be extremely upset. Riley will probably be over dramatic with the news..."

BEEP BEEP BEEP!

Lucas and I both received a message.
