INKOPOLIS SQUARE

There were a bunch of inklings walking around, creatures so pretty much began to roam the earth after the humans got themselves wiped out. They were pretty much an evolved form of a sea animal, mainly squids; that evolved into humanoids.

Though the inkling we want to focus on currently was an inkling girl.  This cephalopod her tentacles which were supposed to serve as hair was in the color purple on the outside while the inside was white.

Her eyes were purple while being surrounded by a black eye mask connecting above her nose. And her ears were huge and pointy. She was currently on her way back to her house after doing her college classes.

Expensive uniform and everything.

This Inkling's name was Artemis.

Artemis: I can't believe how long those classes took. To be honest, I'd much rather do a turf war but I don't really have a team to play with...and I kind of suck with the roller.

Artemis's daily life would pretty much be waking up, doing chores around her house before going out to practice with her roller. Then she'd have morning classes which weren't really that long. And later on during the night, her classes would take place.

And whenever she had to go home, she'd usually take shortcuts through an alleyway or something since those were the quickest routes. And that's what she did, she decided to go to an alleyway.

As she walked around, she felt a sense of dread...as if something bad to her was about to happen. Of course she brushed it off thinking it was just her being paranoid and that was it.

Though there have been reports of girls getting assaulted in this part of Inkopolis, she was fairly confident she could fight whoever was brave enough to try and assault her in any way shape or form.

???: Well what do we have here? Artemis walking around inkopolis alone, late at night?

She sighed in annoyance.

Artemis: What do you want now...James?

She turned around only to see a male inkling smirking at her.

James: Oh nothing much, just couldn't help but notice you walking around here by yourself.

(That is James)

Artemis: Well if you don't mind, I have much more pressing matters to get to...so if you'd be so kind as to move out of my way then that would be appreciated.

James: No...I don't think so.

Two other inklings suddenly came out as one of them restrained her arms.

Artemis: *shocked* Wha-?! Hey!! Let me go!!!

James: You see Artemis, you're one of the most popular girls in school. You're every other male's fantasy, so imagine what'll happen when I get to brag to the others about how I got to have fun with you first!!!

The red inkling would scream out joyfully while the other two perverted inklings smirked and licked their lips.

Artemis: Y-You bastards...you'll pay for this. You won't get away with this!!!

James: I already have bitch! They haven't found out it was me in the slightest!

He would begin to grope her and touch her in places that she'd rather not say. While the other two began to lick her neck.

Any protest she had manage to give out fell on death ears. This was really happening to her.

Artemis: S-Someone...please....Help me-!

James covered her mouth as his smirk grew even more, which honestly disgusted her to no end.

James: HAHA!!!! NO ONE IS GOING TO HELP YOU! YOU STUPID B-!

A sudden roundhouse kick sent the red scumbag flying across the concrete floor.

Everyone stood there in shock as a figure appeared lookin down at the knocked down cephalopod.

Inkling#1: N-No way...

Inkling#2: I...Is that a....?

James: How the...?! There's no way you could be a human! Your kind went extinct years ago!!!

The figure had red eyes, had black spiky hair with red highlights. Wore Black clothes with a red pattern and wore white gloves with gold rings on both his wrists and ankles.

His eyes widened slightly at the sudden information. The human race was wiped out? Seriously?

???: Extinct you say?

James: Y-Yeah...you shouldn't even be alive-GRK?!

The figure lifted him up in the air while grabbing his neck.

???: I have nothing to do with those disgusting creatures, even if I am a human myself.

The figure would then look behind him to see two inklings holding the arms of an inkling girl as they looked on stunned into silence.

He suddenly turned back and glared at the one he was choking.

???: You're just as worst as the humans were before they met their pathetic end...disgusting insect.

The figure would reel his fist back as red lightning crackled around it before launching it forward toward James' gut, knocking the wind out of him and causing him to spit out blood as he crashed into the nearby wall.

Before suddenly turning towards the two other inkling boys who were holding onto Artemis before he suddenly vanished and reappeared behind one of them.

Inkling#1: Wha-?!

Inkling#1 was kicked in the stomach hard as he made contact with the concrete as he coughed up blood before passing out in pain.

Inkling#2: W-Wait! Have mercy-!

The figure would suddenly vanish again before reappearing right in front of inkling#2 before grabbing him by the neck.

???: You don't deserve mercy.

And began to use the rocket function in his shoes to fly high into the air before suddenly charging back down and slamming him into the ground, causing a huge cloud of dust to form.

And when the dust cleared out. The figure stood above the unconscious and very bloodied inkling, his foot right on his cheek as he looked down at them.

Artemis: 'I...I can't believe it...a live human standing in front of me. And he made quick work of those perverts as well...I should probably thank him...'

Artemis: E-Excuse me?

The figure turned around with a small glare and frown on his face.

???: What do you want?

Artemis: I-I just wanted to say thank you for saving me...if you hadn't shown up when you did, I don't want to think about what those guys would have done to me...

She began to walk towards the mysterious figure as he stared at her for a bit before turning back around.

???: Don't worry about it...just be more careful where you go late at night.

Artemis: Y-Yeah, I'll make sure to do that next time-!

They both heard multiple footsteps making their way towards their location. Apparently that huge dust cloud wasn't very hard to miss.

Without thinking, Artemis grabbed the figure's arm and began to run.

???: What are you-?

Artemis: Just follow me, I'll make sure to answer your questions later!

The figure only sighed as he just accepted the current events.

Artemis: So....your name is Kuro?

Kuro: Yes.

Artemis: And you're the last human?

Kuro: . . .Yes.

Artemis: And you were created in a lab and apparently the ultimate life form?

Kuro: Yes.

Artemis dragged Kuro to her house. In her mind it was really the only solution she had. But then again...

Artemis: 'This is the first time I ever had a boy in my house...'

Artemis: A-Anyway, thanks again for saving me Kuro...I really appreciate it.

Kuro: I said not to worry about it.

Kuro stood up as he began to walk towards the door before Artemis grabbed his arm again.

Artemis: And where are you going?

Kuro: Leaving.

Artemis: Leaving where?

Kuro: . . .Anywhere.

Artemis: Do you have anywhere to go?

Kuro: . . .No. . .

That was all the cephalopod needed.

Artemis: Then you can stay here!

Kuro: I don't really want to intrude-!

Artemis: It's fine! I have plenty of room here, so you have nothing to worry about.

Kuro: . . .

Artemis: T-Think of it like this, I get to learn more about you and by extension the human race. While you get to learn more about me and my race. What do you say? Sounds like a good deal to me right?

Artemis would ask with a smile as Kuro would stare at her for a bit before sighing.

Kuro: Fine.

Artemis: Yes!!!!

Kuro: Now do you think you can let go of my arm?

Her celebrating was cut short as she realized she was still holding onto Kuro's arm.

Artemis: Oh! Um...Sorry...hehe...

Kuro said nothing as he sat back down on the couch and looked around.

He noticed two posters with different people on them.

Kuro: Who are they?

He pointed to the posters.

Artemis: Oh you mean them? Those are the Squid Sisters and Off The Hook! One of the best idol groups ever!

Kuro: *sweating* You're a fan of them I assume?

Artemis: Oh most definitely! If I had the chance to meet them then I would be the happiest squid in the world!

Kuro: . . .I see. Anyway what exactly are you? You look human but you have squid like features.

Kuro would ask as Artemis would look at him before answering.

Artemis: Well yeah, that's because I'm not a human you silly goose. I'm an inkling.

The boy would tilt his head in confusion.

Kuro: What's an inkling?

She went on to explain about how Inklings were an evolved species of squid that came to be after rising sea levels destroyed humanity.  She then went on to explain the traditions they had like turf wars, splatfest, etc.

Kuro: I see...so you're the new race inhabiting the earth now since the humans are...dead.

Artemis: Yeah...look Kuro, I know this may sound bad considering you're the last of your kind but-!

Kuro: The only human I ever cared about died way before the rest of that pathetic species were wiped out by mere water.

Artemis: . . .What?

Kuro: Way before humanity became extinct, I lived in a space shuttle with another human. Her name was Maria.

Artemis: And...what happened to her?

Kuro would tighten his fist as he remembered that day very vividly.

Kuro: She was shot and killed.

Hearing this, Artemis' eyes would widen a bit.

Kuro: A military group by the name of G.U.N. went out of their way to raid the shuttle I was in as an attempt to shut down a project called "Project Shadow".

Artemis: A-And I'm guessing y...you're...Project Shadow?

Kuro would nod.

Kuro: You see, Maria was very ill so her grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, created me as a way to cure her...she was my closest friend.

Artemis: So you're not a machine or anything?

Kuro: Of course not, I'm a living breathing organism like you are. I can get hungry, I can get thirsty, I can bleed, I can die. Just not by aging. The professor created me as the Ultimate Life Form. So I'm guessing, the government didn't want me sticking around.

Artemis: S-So Maria....?

Kuro: She died while sending me away from that space shuttle. I later somehow ended up in some underground facility, that's where I woke up. But before I found out that the humans were dead, I swore revenge upon the human race, I wanted to make this world burn...to nothing more but ash...

He looked downward.

Kuro: But now that I think about it...

He would have a flashback to Maria smiling at him.

Kuro: . . .Maria wasn't the kind of person to want to see the world burn. After all, she wanted to visit this planet more than anything...and since the humans are dead...there's no reason for me to get revenge...so I don't know what to do anymore.

Artemis would he silent for a bit before suddenly hugging him, catching the Kuro off guard as he looked up at her.

Artemis: It's ok to feel anger for what happened but you have to move on. It's like you said....Maria wouldn't have wanted to see the world burn right? So the best you can do is honor whatever promise you made with her, even if you can't remember it fully, I can tell you cared for her very dearly since you were prepared to destroy the planet to avenge her.

Kuro: . . .I don't know what I'm supposed to do now...what my purpose is. Because if I'm being honest...I still feel anger for what happened...and I feel anger for myself.

Artemis: And that's ok, you're making progress. It's ok to still feel anger for what happened but what's important is trying to let go of the past and try to move on and honor her wishes. And sure,  you may not know what to do now that the main reason for your revenge is gone, but I can help you.

She looked down at Kuro with a smile of her own.

Artemis: After all, I am your first friend in this new world around you right?

Kuro would slowly but surely hug her back as he closed his eyes.

Kuro: . . .Yeah.

He may not know what to do now that humanity is gone, and he may not fully remember what Maria promised him all those years ago, but he knows that Maria along with his memories and promise with her are the realest things about him. And with Artemis' help, he'll find a new purpose in this new world, whatever it may be.

Kuro made a new friend in this new environment ...and it came in the form of a purple cephalopod who sucks at turf wars and attends college classes.

What else could happen?

AUTHORS NOTE: SO YEAH, I WANTED TO INTRODUCE A CHARACTER WOULD WOULD SERVE AS KURO'S FIRST FRIEND IN THE NEW ENVIRONMENT HE'S IN. AND I FIGURED SINCE SHE TOOK HIM IN AND THEY WERE LEARNING ABOUT EACH OTHER, I COULD MAKE HIM GO INTO HIS PAST AND EXPLAIN WHY HE DESPISED HUMANS AND WANTED REVENGE BEFORE FINDING OUT THEY WENT EXTINCT. SO NOW HE'S STUCK FINDING A NEW PURPOSE WITH THE HELP OF ARTEMIS.
