Chapter 19
Chapter 19
"White told you to come here?" Amos asked immediately after the boy's introduction.
Sky Blue nodded, and explained hurriedly, "White is out somewhere with another friend, so she was unable to make it down here."
"How do you know her?" questioned Leia curiously.
The Chatot on Sky's shoulder gave a squawk, and its trainer stroked its feathers.
"White is a childhood friend of mine. We have known each other for around ten years." he finally answered.
Amos noticed that Sky Blue looked a bit ill. His face was pale, and his clothes were very dirty. Sky's visible eye even looked a bit blood shot.
He was about to ask Sky about it, but Hugh had already asked, "Do you live here?"
Sky shook his head, apparently getting more comfortable speaking to them.
"No, I'm from Sinnoh, but my family moved here when I was three. But, my parents died in a car accident a few months after we moved in. My sister died from a forest fire a year later." Sky told them very unconcernedly, which surprised Amos.
Leia gave him a concerned look. "Oh, I'm so sorry," She squeaked, clearly at a loss for what to say."
Sky shook his head and shoved his black hair away from his right eye. To Amos's shock, where an eye should have been was a navy blue eye patch.
"What happened to your eye?" Hugh demanded bluntly and rudely before Amos or Leia could stop him.
"Lost it two years ago. I lost it from..." Sky started, but he hesitated. Amos could tell that he didn't want to say what had happened to his eye.
"I... I battled a very powerful Dragon type, and it clawed it out." he finally finished, though he sounded untruthful.
"You liar! I'll give you credit for the lie. One of the most realistic yet." a voice add from behind them.
They turned around to see White limping toward them, leaning on a walking stick. A girl around their age was skipping next to her, holding a small package in her hands. White's Arcanine and Espeon were following behind them.
Sky's face was turning red as he protested, "Oh, come on, White! I don't want to say!"
"What really happened to his eye, then?" Hugh asked, facing White expectantly.
"He lost it when fighting Team Plasma at the Pokemon League. He lost it to a girl and her Gardevoir. He would have died if I hadn't gotten him out of there." White told them with a slight sneer. Sky Blue's face was burning with embarrassment now.
"Do you have to say that?" Sky snapped.
"But you lie about it all the time!" said the girl next to White. "Best lie yet was that you battled the legendary Genesect! I can't believe those little kids believed you!"
"This is Mira, and I believe you know Sky Blue." White interrupted, introducing her two friends. "They are my, err, best friends."
"Hello," Amos greeted a bit uncertainly, nodding to Mira. Hugh also nodded at Mira, but Leia ran over to the girl and started talking to her.
"How long have you been a trainer?" Leia asked her curiously and excitedly.
"Oh, since I was seven! I come from Johto, but Sky and White have let me join them when they visited other regions. Oh, is he yours?" Mira suddenly asked, taking notice to the Tepig in Leia's hands.
"No, this is my brother's."
"And I'll have him back, thank you very much!" Hugh snapped, holding out his hands for his Tepig. Leia gave the pokemon back reluctantly, but continued to talk to Mira wi interest. Amos ignored Mira and Leia and turned to White.
"What happened to your leg?" he questioned her, taking notice to her limp. She shifted uncomfortably and seemed to have put more weight on her walking stick.
"Old injury, it's nothing." She muttered, not looking Amos in the eyes. "Happens every now and then."
Before he could ask anything else, White had started speaking to Sky.
"Where's Di-Di? You were watching her." She asked.
"Well, about that-" Sky started nervously, but
"You lost her?!" White hissed in a deadly voice.
"No!" Sky protested as he began to sweat nervously. "I-I let her out and last time I saw her, she was swimming around the ports."
White raised an eyebrow. "Now what are you going to do?" she growled.
"Me?!" he snapped, and his Chatot gave an angry screech. "What about you?! Di-Di's your pokemon, not mine!"
"But," White growled in a even more deadly tone. "You are the one who was watching her."
Sky looked like he was going to protest more, but seemed to think better of it. Amos thought that Sky might have been a little afraid of her.
He finally growled and avoided looking at White. "Fine, I'll look for her later." he snarled while Tiny hissed with satisfaction next to her trainer.
"White, is there a gym here?" Leia then asked White.
White nodded and replied, Yes, Burgh is the gym leader. He uses Bug Types."
"Then you'll need Fire and Flying Types. They do quite well against Bug Types." Mira informed her new friend, joining in on the conversation.
"But I don't got a Fire or Flying Type!"
"You can borrow Tepig, I guess" Hugh offered, who had returned his pokemon to its pokeball.
"I could lend you my Chatot, Chatter. You won't have much luck finding a Flying Type here." added Sky as Leia beamed at him.
Amos saw that White wasn't paying attention to them. She was watching her Arcanine and Espeon snap at each other and hiss.
"Are you sure you're ok, White?" he asked her again.
White looked away from her pokemon and looked at Amos.
"Yes, I'm fine." She said, but he could tell that she was lying.
Amos suddenly noticed that she looked a bit like Sky. She looked a bit pale and she had shadows under her eyes. She was even a bit thinner. Was White sick as well?
"Oh, by the way, I found this in one of the stores, Sky Blue! It's for your Areodactyl!" Mira suddenly piped up, handing Sky the small package in her hand. He gave her a suspicious look.
"Ok, what kind of joke is in here?" he asked shrewdly.
"Nothing! It's a item that can only be held by an Areodactyl." Mira repeated hurriedly. Sky still didn't seem to believe her so he looked at White.
"She's telling the truth." White reassured him, making him to shrug and open it.
Amos caught a glimpse of a gray and purple orb before White limped past him.
"Hey, where are you going?" Hugh called, watching White walk toward the end of the port.
"I have an... appointment." She answered, not turning around.
"You're leaving?" said Leia nervously, looking uncomfortable about hanging out with two people that she just met.
"Just for a hour. Just stay with Sky and Mira. Archy, Tiny, come along," she added as she turned to see her pokemon. Archy and Tiny had stopped their hissing and started following their trainer. White gave them a nod before limping toward the city.
"Well," Sky said when White was out of sight, "I was going to go back to the hotel, but now I got to find White's Gorebyss. Anyone else going to come? I have no idea where to look, it's probably half way out to sea by now..."
Leia moved next to Mira. "I'll go where Mira goes." She said, and Mira smiled. "I'll go with Sky." said Amos, not wanting to stay with Mira and Leia. "I'll come too." Hugh also said.
Sky smiled slightly and watched the two girls run off together.
"Why did you have White's pokemon?" Amos asked him curiously.
Sky seemed to have not heard him. He instead whispered something to his Chatot that they could not hear. The Normal Flying Type gave a loud squawk and flew toward the sea.
"I watch over her pokemon when she can't bring them along. Apparently Di-Di hadn't been out in awhile, so White gave me her." Sky finally answered once Chatter was out of sight.
"What pokemon do you have?" Hugh then asked.
"An Areodactyl, Joltik, Mr.Mime, Empoleon, Alakazam, Kirlia, and my Chatot." replied Sky, "I like Water Types, but I don't have much."
"I wish I had a Water Type," Amos heard Hugh mutter, who was undoubtedly thinking about the battle on the boat.
Sky smirked and then asked, "What do you guys have right now? Seeing how you are both rookies, I'm guessing you don't have too much."
"I have a Growlithe, Oshawott, and Patrat. Hugh has a Tepig and Pidove." Amos explained.
"Oh, you hate the rain then?" Sky asked Hugh, grinning slightly.
"You think?" Hugh snapped, causing the eye patched boy to laugh.
"Is White ok?" Amos finally asked him, who seemed to know White best. He was still thinking about White.
Sky shrugged as they walked into the busy streets. "She's a bit down, but she's tough. I think it's just stress." Sky told them, "I wouldn't worry about her. White has always been a bit out of color."
But Amos didn't believe him. His suspension of White increased a bit. Ever since he first met White, he had always been a bit curious about her. She never exactly told much about herself.
Now that he thought about it, White had never looked that healthy. If she really was stressed, that would explain a lot. What was she up to? What was making her so sick? He was dying to know, and would do anything to figure out what.
