Chapter-31: Thrice?

Song attached^

"Aunt, I'm going for a drive," I called out before I made my way to my car.

William had left a note with an address. I was going to kill him. Even if he was dead. I drove for a few miles before my GPS showed I had to go for more than two minutes. I drove up the hills, the headlights of my car being the only source of light in the awful darkness.

When I reached, there was no sign of any inhabitants. It was as if the road seemed to end and the hill was covered up with dense trees of all kinds. I shone my phone's flashlight around. There was an arrow sign carved on one of the trees. I followed it and found another. This continued for about a minute before I reached a dead-end.

Someone must be pulling a prank.

Just when I turned around to leave, two hands covered my eyes.

"Hey, Rose," William whispered in my ear.

I was speechless for the moment, hearing his voice after almost two days. I felt William move and we started walking towards something. I flailed my hands and urged them to move away from William's arms.

"Hey, what are you doing?" I questioned but he just shushed me and continued walking. I wanted to interject again but then he moved his hands away.

I turned to give him my infamous glare before looking forward only to gasp out seeing the scenery in front of me. It was as if we were on top of the world with the open space in front of us covered in blue roses and a fire sparkling in the center.

"What how-?" I was once again surprised and tongue-tied.

"I suppose you like them?" William asked.

I turned around to face him with a small frown. He was dressed in a shirt with a blue tie and straight-cut pants. In other words, he looked really handsome.

"Where have you been, I was so worried that you left me and-"

"Why would you think I left you?"

"I don't know, maybe you're tired of me or something," I huffed out.

He just chuckled softly but wrapped his hands around me to give me a hug. I hugged him back, sighing in relief.

"I was there with you all the time, Flower, I'm sorry you were worried for me."

"What do you mean by you were with me?" I asked, baffled.

"I was there with you at school, I hugged you the night you sang a song."

I remembered the window opening that night but didn't see William. Then it registered.

"Why did you stay invisible?"

"I just wanted to make your birthday special so was busy making preparations. I knew you would ask, that's why," he said sighing. I just hit him on the arm but he just laughed.

"I wanna show you something, come on," William said pulling me to the edge of the cliff.

The city lights created a beautiful scenery as we looked down, a small barricade showing a sign not to go further.

"The scenery is out of some movie," I said taking it all in before my sight fell on the bouquet of flowers, "The roses are really beautiful too," I said, smelling one.

"They remind me of you and the colour reminds me of your eyes," he said huskily, moving a strand away from my face before placing a small kiss on my cheek.

I blushed profusely from his compliments and well, from the kiss.

"How do you know this place?"

"This was my secret paradise whenever I needed to clear my head."

I looked at him with admiration and felt so special knowing he showed me something so personal to him.

"Well, there's something else I have planned for you," he said.

He took me near the fire and made me sit on a big boulder that had coincidently taken the shape of a bean bag. Then he disappeared behind a tree and when he came back, he was holding up a packet, and a smug grin. As he neared, I saw-

"Are those peeps?!" I squealed, not able to contain my excitement. Peeps were my absolute favourite and I had mentioned it to William once when an advertisement about them came up.

He remembered.

We made s'mores with the help of the fire and I told him about the party as we ate. He laughed when I said I thought he left with Aristotle.

"Tell me honestly... why did you think I left?" William asked.

I peered my gaze on a rock, thinking about all the possibilities for which he left me.

"I told you, I thought you got tired of me," I shrugged.

"Tired of what? Seeing your antics? Or the time when you took care of me? Or the time you kept pillows for me in the living room? Or when you helped me? Heck, helping others before helping yourself and lying for me? Or for believing in me? For what Rose?" William spoke, his voice getting meek with every word.

I just stared at him, not knowing what to say. He was so observant but never said anything.

"Come on," he said pulling us up and dusting himself. We walked towards the end of the cliff. I stopped before the sign but he tugged me with a smile.

"You will love this," he said before pointing at the sky.

I looked up to the sky adorned with millions of stars, some seemingly shining brighter than others but still, it felt so close to them being so high up. I couldn't stop the smile that bloomed on my face.

"It's beautiful," I spoke, still mesmerized by the vast beauty of nature.

"I saw the constellation stickers in your room and the doodles in your notebook," he said answering my question of how he knew.

"We can be like stars, you know,  like those who travel with a companion," he said.

I looked at him confused about how he compared us to stars.

"Well, you know, most stars travel in pairs or clusters while others, like our Sun, move alone."

"You googled that?"

"Nope, I was studying astronomy when I was in college," he said nonchalantly as if it was no biggie.

"No wonder why you're so smart in physics."

He smiled at me before I saw a shooting star.

"Look!" I pointed out hastily, "a shooting star."

"Make a wish," he whispered.

So I did. I wished for something that was not possible, but I wished it was.

"What did you wish for?"

"That's for me to know and you to find out," I said giggling at him.

William continued to stare at me with a longing look. I gulped looking at him.

"Did I say how beautiful you're looking tonight?"

"You just did," I said jokingly to calm my erratic heart.

He laughed looking up at the sky while I stared at him shamelessly. I stood on my tiptoes and planted a kiss on his jaw. He snapped his head at me and when I thought of backing off, he gently put his arms around me, caressing the side of my face and moved the hair from my face. Then he did what I dreamt all day. He crashed his lips on mine.

Then we kissed under the witness of all the ancestors up shining in the sky. It was like nothing I read in any novel. It was more. Something I couldn't explain. Something completely out of this world. He kissed me softly at first, showing how gentle he could be but when I moved my lips and nibbled down a little, he bent my head down and kissed me deeply and with such ferocity, I thought the world was spinning. It was as if all the butterflies in my stomach bloomed in millions.

We parted for air, both gasping for air after the intense kiss.

"Wow," William spoke finally as he stared at me.

"That was amazing," I blew out.

"That surely was," he said as he started placing small kisses on my face but stopped on my lips.

"I need to ask you something,"

"What is it?" I asked irritated when he stopped.

He just chuckled at my reaction but blew out a whistle. Out of nowhere, I saw Aristotle running toward us with a string in his mouth that held on to some helium balloons. Looking up, I saw a poster and when it came into view, I was speechless. Once again.

Will you be my girlfriend?
