Raving Mad

Having our dad be mad at you for doing something good sucks. I buy him healthy food and he flips.

"Oh, what the hell is this?" He demanded, looking at his burger.

I glanced up, before looking back at my food. "Veggie burger." I said, rooting through the bag for my food.

"Stiles, I asked for a hamburger." My dad sighed exasperated.

"Well, veggie is healthier. We're being healthy." I said, handing Anubis his medium rare hamburger pattie.

"Oh, hell, why are you trying to ruin my life?"He demanded. I glared at him as I pulled out my salad.

"I'm trying to extend your life, okay? Could you just eat it, please? And tell me what you found." I leaned back on my chair and stabbed my salad.

"No, I'm not sharing confidential police work with a teenager." I looked up then looked behind him.

"Is that it on the board behind you?" I asked, rising in my seat slightly.

"Don't look at that."He stood up to get in my way trying to prevent me from seeing. "Avert your eyes."

"Okay." I said, taking in as much as I could, from my spot.

"Hey!" He noticed and tried to stop me again.

"Just - it's just - I see arrows pointing at pictures." I said, straining to look. Anubis stood and started to read the board to me.

"Sean ripped to pieces. Jessica suffocated." He read.

My dad gave up with a sigh, knowing my persistence. "Okay, okay, stop. Fine. I found something. Mechanic and the couple who were murdered. They all had something in common."

"All three?" I blinked in surprised. I wasn't sure when I had started that there was.

"Yeah. You know what I always say. One's an incident. Two's coincidence..." He started his statement that I followed.

"Three's a pattern." I finished. I took a bit of my burger and a sip of my drink.

"The mechanic, the husband, the wife - all the same age. All 24." Dad said, pointing at each murder. I nodded before realizing something.

"Wait, what about Mr. Lahey? I mean, Isaac's dad isn't anywhere near 24." I stated.

"Which made me think that either "a," Lahey's murder wasn't connected or "b," the ages were a coincidence, until I found this, which would be "c." Did you know that Isaac Lahey had an older brother named Camden?" Dad asked. I shook my head, while Anubis nodded. Dad tossed me his file.

"'Died in combat'?" I asked, looking up at my dad.

"But if he were alive today, take one guess as to how old he'd be."

"24." I stated, glancing at the picture of the dead soldier. I got up and looked at the board. "What if same age means same class? Did you think of that?" I asked, looking over at my dad.

"Yeah... Well I would have. I just got Lahey's information two hours ago." My dad tried to justify.

"Two hours where someone could be dying!" I pointed out.

"Yeah, I'm aware of that. Thank you." He snapped.

"Same class..." I muttered. Dad and I rushed to grab the beacon hills class files and put them on his desk . I handed a folder to Anubis and started going through one of my own. It took a couple minutes but we found the class. "Harris." I muttered. "They were all in his class?" I asked.

Dad nodded. "All four." He confirmed. "Now I don't know how Mr, Lahey fits in but kid, this is definately a pattern. Get me the 2006 yearbook. I faces for these names." Dad grabbed his phone and I grabbed the yearbooks to find the one I needed. I sent Anubis to Scott. My reasoning, he could do more there. Anubis mindlinked with me so I could see and hear what was happening.

He got to Scott just as Scott let Derek and Issac into the Vet clinic. "WHatès he doing here?" Scott asked, jerking his head at Issac.

"I need him." Derek responded. "What's Anubis doing here?" Scott whirled around to Anubis standing there.

"When did he get here?" Scott asked. Then I look of realization appeared on his face. "He's here for Stiles so she can listen in. I don't trust Issac though."

"Well he doesn't trust you." Issac responded.

"And Derek really doesn't care." Which cause Anubis and I to laugh. Derek smirked at Anubis. "Now, where's the vet? Is he going to help us or not?"

"That depends. Are you going to save Jackson or kill him?" Deaton asked, rubbing Anubis behind the ears.

"Save him." Scott said at the same time as Derek said, "Kill him." Scott looked at Derek in anger before firmly saying, "Save him."

Deaton lead the three men into the examination room. Issac tried to touch stuff, but Anubis pulled him back. "Watch what you touch." Derek cautioned.

"So, what are you? Some kind of witch?" Issac inquired. I snorted along with Anubis.

"No. I'm a veterinarian." Deaton said, looking at his various flasks. "Unfortunately, I don't see anything that is going to be an effective defense against a paralytic toxin."

"We're open to suggestions." Derek said.

"What about an effective offence?" Issac wondered.

"We already tried. I nearly took it's head off and Argent emptied an entire clip into it. That thing just gets back up." Derek explained.

"Has it shown any weaknesses?" Deaton asked, worried and a little surprised.

"One, it can't swim." Derek said.

"Does that hold for Jackson as well?" Deaton asked.

Scott shook his head. "Jackson's captain of the swim team." Swim team....

"Then essentially, you are trying to catch two people. A puppet and a puppeteer." Deaton explained, using a medallion as a representation. "One killed the husband but the other had to kill the wife. Do we know why?"

"I don't think Jackson could do it. His mother died pregnant and she was murdered. I don't think Jackson could kill another mother." Scott speculated.

"How do you know it"s not part of the rules? The kanima kills murderers. If Jackson killed the mother, the baby would have died too." Issac suggested.

"Does that mean your father was a murderer?" Scott asked. Issac replied that it wouldn't surprise him if he was."

"The book says their bonded right? What if the fear of water isn't coming from Jackson, but the person controlling him." Deaton suggested. "What if something that affects the Kanima?" Deaton posed. "Also affects the master?" Deaton poured mountain ash around the medallion.

"Meaning what?" Issac asked, confused. Anubis rolled his eyes.

"Meaning we can catch them. Both of them." Scott said, catching on.

I drove Scott to school the next morning. We pulled up as Matt was chaining his bike up. He walked over and I internally groaned.

"Do you have any idea why no one is being suspended for what happened in the library?" He asked.

"What, do you want to get caught?" I mentally grumbled and Anubis chuckled at me. "Just forget it. No one got hurt." I snapped.

"I had a concussion." He said. I sighed.

"No one got seriously hurt." I corrected.

"I was in the ER for six hours." I was ready to strangle this dude and was very tempted to sick Anubis on him.

"You want to know the truth, Matt? Your little bump on the head is about this high," I gestured to about an inch of the ground, "On our list of problems right now."

"Are you okay?" Scott asked, being the nice guy he is. I glared at him, before shrugging and walking off, Scott catching up after a couple of seconds.

"I still think it's him." I said when he caught up. "Are you sure about this?"

Scott glanced at me. "Last time, whoever was controlling Jackson had to finish the job because he couldn't. What do you think he's going to do this time?"

I grumbled at Scott for making sense. "Be there to make sure it happens." I admitted.

At practice that afternoon, Coach was pissed at the lack of Jackson. "Has anyone seen Jackson?" He demanded.

I nudged Scott. "I thought you were keeping an eye on him." I whispered, which apparently Coach heard.

"Stilinski! Jackson?" He yelled.

"Sorry Coach, haven't seen him since the last time I saw him." I answered.

Coach was now clearly pissed but determined to humor me. "Oh and when was that?" He asked.

"The last time I saw him. Definitely the time I saw him last." I sniggered at his expression.

"Yeah again. Danny. Tell Jackson no missing practice this close to the championships?" Danny and looked to us.

"Sorry guys, I only have two tickets." He said.

"Do you even have a date?" I demanded. He glared at me.

"I'm working on it."

"Well how about you take me? Or dedicate you life to abstinence and give me the tickets?" I suggested. Danny walked off and I sighed. Issac walked over and sighed.

"How do you two loser survive?" I glared at him.

"We're working on it."

"Wait here."

"What's he gonna...?" Scott started to ask as Issac beat this kid up for his tickets.

"Oh... ow.. that's going to bruise... damn that's excessive." Issac walked back to us and gave us the tickets.

"Enjoy the show." He said, slapping the tickets onto our chests.

After school, we went to Deaton and he gave us something to help control Jackson.

"Ketamine?" Scott asked.

"It's the same stuff we use on the dogs, just a higher dosage. If you can get close enough to Jackson, it will slow him down enough to buy you some time. This is some of what you'll use to create the barrier. This part is for you, Stiles. Only you." Deaton explained, getting a small jar of mountain ash out and holding it up for me to see.

"Uh, that sounds like a lot of pressure. Can we find me a slightly less pressure filled task for me?" I asked. Then looking at the container, I found a different problem. "Wait. Is that Mountain ash? Won't I not be able to touch it because of Anubis?"

"That's only when you're merged with him. Any other time you're a normal human." Deaton said. I nodded, knowing that I was the only trustworthy one.

Deaton then began explaining to Scott what it was. After he was done, I posed my question. "So when I put it around the building, neither Jackson nor the person controlling him will be able to cross?" Deaton nodded.

"They'll be trapped." He confirmed.

"Doesn't sound to hard." Scott commented.

I sighed. "That's half of the job. Mountain ash needs a spark of power, the belief that it will keep them in for it to work. That's the hard part."

"It can be pretty extraordinary what the force of your own will can accomplish." Deaton agreed. "If this is going to work Stiles, you have to believe it."

When Dad came home, I was heading. "Can't talk. Gotta catch the Kanima." I said, before taking a closer look. "Hey, where's your badge?" I asked.

"I left it at the office with my gun." Dad said.

"What? They fired you? Is it my fault?" I asked, staring at him. He got a look that can't be explained.

"No Stiles. But everyone thinks that a man whose daughter's best friend has a restraining order shouldn't be sheriff." He sighed. Anubis twitched and I flinched.

"So because the supernatural can't be made public, you are suffering." I summarized.

"Stiles go get that monster. We'll talk later." I nodded and gave him a hug. Anubis, who had been taking this the same as me, licked his hand.

"Love you Daddy." I muttered before climbing into my jeep.

Scott opened the trunk and I pulled the mountain ash out of the trunk. "You okay?" He asked. "You've been awful quiet." I sighed as Anubis climbed out.

"I'm fine. You go in with Anubis. I gotta start this." I said.

"I'll stay here Stiles if that's okay with you. I'd rather avoid crowds right now." Anubis said, rubbing my leg. I nodded.

"He wants to stay." I explained to Scott. Scott ran off, muttering about not now. I shrugged at Anubis and cut a hole at the corner of one of the bags of mountain ash. I started at the jeep, where Anubis stayed and made my way around the building trying to go in straight lines. Anubis went to join Derek and Boyd, who had run into Chris and the hunters. "Perfect." I growled out as Derek taunted Chris. "That dumbass can't shut his mouth."

About 50 feet from where I started though, I ran out of mountain ash. So I called Scott. "Hey, so I'm almost done but I don't have enough. And I'm standing here like a freaking idiot with a hand full of magic pixie dust all by myself." He said, you gotta believe. I watched the line, trying to think when I noticed a bumper sticker.

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. -Einstein." I closed my eyes and envisioned who I was fighting for. Scott, Lydia, my dad, Anubis, Derek... Don't know why he's on the list but whatever. I closed my eyes and began walking, pouring the dust out slowly until it was all gone. I looked down to see I did it.

"Yes!" I cheered, seeing the completed circle of mountain ash. I jumped on a car, which went off with the burglar alarm so I quickly got off. I entered the club and found Erica and Issac where they had hidden Jackson. They both went to attack me when I opened the door. "Hey, it's me. It's me. Don't freak." I said, closing the door. "He okay?" I asked, squatting down in front of Jackson.

"Well let's find out." Issac said, extending his claws and swiping at Jackson, who tightly grabbed his arm. I pulled Issac back and glared at both betas. "No one does anything like that again? Got it?" Both nodded at me and I felt my my eyes fade back to normal, from which they had unconsciously started to glow.

"I though the ketamine was supposed to put him out." Issac gasped.

"Yeah, well this may be all we're getting." I sighed. "So let's hope that whoever is controlling him decided to show up tonight." At that point, Jackson's eyes opened.

"I'm here. I'm right here with you." I glanced at Erica and Issac before glancing back at Jackson. I mentally heard Boyd say he had stopped healing and Derek explain why before telling Boyd to leave with his car. I growled at the fact that I never get to drive his car, at which point Anubis asked it that was all I had gotten out of their situation.

I retook my squat in front of Jackson and spoke. "Jackson is that you?"

"Us." He corrected. "We're all here."

I glanced back at Issac, who glanced at Erica, before continuing. "Are you the one killing people?"

"We're the ones killing murderers." He corrected again.

"So all the people you killed so far..."

"Deserved it."

"See, we've got a little rule book that says you only go after murderers."

"Anything can break if enough pressure is applied."

"Okay so the people you're all killing are murderers then. Who did they murder?"

"Me. They murdered me."

"What?" I muttered, squinting slightly.

"They murdered me." Jackson began to transform and I backed up quickly.

"Give him more." I ordered.

"There's none left." I whipped my head to look at Issac before pushing Erica out of the room and slamming the door after Issac. Which didn't help because Kanima Jackson just broke through the wall.

I got out of the club and joined Derek outside of the mountain ash. "Hey, so we kinda lost Jackson inside...." He looked at me as Issac and Erica came out, unable to cross the mountain ash. Anubis jogged up and I crouched beside him. "Oh my god. It's working. Yes. I did something." But Derek still looked worried. "Where's Scott?"

Suddenly there was howling. Derek couldn't cross and neither could Anubis. I broke the circle with out promting and merged with Anubis, rushing to my friends defense. I grabbed him as Derek pulled Victoria off and bit her by accident.

"You realize she now has to kill herself, right?" I questioned as we pulled Scott from the wolfsbane filled room. Derek was struggling but I was fine. Anubis is affected by Mountain ash but not wolfsbane. Spirit animal/ master thing. We took Scott to Deaton, who began patching him up. I sat beside Derek on a stool and Anubis sat at my feet. I lay my head on Derek's shoulder and sighed. "Why does everything go wrong?" I asked.

"It doesn't. We're just unlucky." Derek answered back.

"Doesn't seem like it."

"You haven't been at this nearly long enough."

"I've been at this since I was two." I muttered, stroking Anubis.

"Supernatural or werewolves?"

"Supernatural." I answered.

"Why couldn't I tell you were a supernatural creature when I met you?" Derek asked after a minute.

"Because I'm technically not. Anubis is a animal embodiment of my soul. He's part of me and I'm human. And still human when I merge with him. But because he was summoned to my side supernaturally, he can't cross mountain ash." I explained. I felt, rather then saw, Derek nod.
