Yuno: ...Another one.
Yuno hesitated for a moment as he looked at the casing containing the Dragon Ball up and down over and over again, the same thoughts he had in Hell's Kitchen now crawling back to him. How? Why? None of this could be a coincidence, right? It couldn't possibly be random chance to find another Dragon Ball Here and Now...right? His mind raced desperately searching for some kind of answer before casting it all aside as he slowly toward the glass, a small layer of Ki beginning to coat his hand.
???: Hey, get away from that!
Yuno froze cold, spinning on his heels as the sharp voice rang through the lab, the sound of hurried footsteps bouncing off the floors as he snapped his gaze toward the source. A man in a long but ragged lab coat and thick glasses, his hair unkempt and wild, stormed toward Yuno with an urgent, almost manic energy.
???: Dr. Banner?
He suddenly stopped a few feet away from Yuno, adjusting his thick glasses as he looked him up and down. He was breathing heavily as if that short run were like a marathon for him. It was kind of difficult for Yuno to imagine him, of all people, being the Hulk, but the seemingly endless mass of energy he felt from him said otherwise. Yuno's muscles tensed as he lowered his hand, the faint glow of Ki dissipating.
Banner: Yeah, and you are?
Yuno: Yuno.
He stuffed his hands in his pockets, trying to act natural.
Yuno: I'm with the Young Avengers. Widow said you and the other Avengers were gonna come talk to us and show us around, but I...managed to get myself lost trying to find a bathroom.
Hearing that, Banner's eyes instantly shot wide. He glanced down at his watch and glided a hand through his disheveled mess of hair.
Banner: Jesus, is that really today?
Looking at him closely, Yuno quickly noticed the bags under the good doctor's eyes and the way past 5 o'clock shadow he had on his face.
Yuno: Uhh...yeah. Are you ok, doc? How long have you been in here? It looks like you haven't slept in days.
Banner let out a tired sigh, rubbing his temples as he leaned against a nearby table, muttering to himself.
Banner: Days? Ha. Try weeks.
Yuno raised an eyebrow.
Yuno: Weeks? What the hell have you been doing in here that's got you looking like...well, that?
Banner shot him a look but didn't seem all that offended. Instead, he motioned toward the containment unit holding the Dragon Ball.
Banner: This...whatever it is. Tony brought it here after we raided an A.I.M. facility in South Africa a few weeks back, and I've been studying it, running every test I can think of, every scan, every possible analysis... and I still have no idea what the hell it actually is or what it does.
Yuno's breath caught in his throat for a moment as he turned back to the glass case.
Yuno: So you've got nothing then?
Banner: I mean, I know that it's radiating an energy signature unlike anything in our databases, and it emits a faint but strange electromagnetic pulse aside from that though nothing else I can really sa-Oh wait! I almost forgot, while Tony was searching through A.I.M's files he kept seeing one name related to this thing, they called it...
Yuno/Banner: ...A Dragon Ball.
Yuno felt his stomach drop as he and Banner uttered the words in unison, the weight of them settling heavily between them like an unspoken revelation. He took a slow, steady breath, his mind racing. Banner adjusted his glasses, watching Yuno's reaction closely.
Banner: Okay, so judging by the way your entire body just tensed up, I'm guessing you know more about this thing than we do.
Yuno hesitated. He glanced back at the Dragon Ball, the faint orange glow pulsing within the container like a slow heartbeat.
Yuno: I-
Widow: YUNO!!!
The entire room froze, pure terror latching onto Yuno, shaking him to his very core as Widow suddenly exploded through the lab doors, a mix of frustration and controlled fury plastered across her face as she stomped toward him. She moved with that sharp, deliberate grace that made even the most hardened agents flinch.
Yuno: O-Oh...C-c-crap baskets.
Rebirth
Widow absolutely rocks Yuno at the top of his head, a loud thud echoing out in the main room of the tower, stunning everyone around them as Yuno's knees instantly buckled, and he grabbed his head in pain.
Yuno: OW! Okay, okay, I get it! I'm sorry!
Widow: What was the first thing I told you not to do!?
Yuno: D-Don't get lost?
Widow: And what did you do!?
Yuno: G...Get lost. But hey at least I didn't break anyth-
She instantly slams her fist on his head again, quickly cutting him off and dropping him completely to his knees
Yuno: Gah! Child Abuse! Someone call CPS!
Widow pinched the bridge of her nose and let out a slow, measured breath, trying very hard not to strangle him right then and there. Gwen quietly shuffled over to Yuno's side, kneeling to him, and gently rubbed the top of his head.
Gwen: There, There, Yuno.
Yuno simply looked down at the floor, a small bump already starting to form on the top of his head as he softly sobbed before Laura tapped him on the shoulder. He glances up at her, painful tears comedically streaming from his eyes.
Laura: Hey, you know what?
Yuno sniffles
Yuno: W-What?
Laura smirked, lowering herself to him just enough to whisper in his ear.
Laura: You're an idiot.
With that, it was over. Yuno collapsed to the floor, completely defeated, and wondered whether it was still worth going on anymore. Meanwhile, Cap leaned over to a still-steaming Widow.
Cap: Is...he going to be alright?
Widow glanced down at Yuno, who was still sprawled out on the floor in defeat, before turning back to Cap, her tone dry.
Widow: He'll live. Especially once he learns what we have planned for all of them.
Yuno glanced up at her, a trickle of tears still falling off his face.
Yuno: W-What do you mean?
Tony: What she means is that since you guys are the Young Aveners now, destined to take over once we're all said and done, it's time to see how you guys stack up to the originals.
Danny: Wait, so does that mean...
Cap: You're exactly right, son. The six of us will be going up against all of you; think of it as a sparring session of sorts; the last team standing is the winner.
Danny and the others all murmured to eachother while Yuno slowly yet silently rose to his feet, his eyes still firmly on the floor, the excitement inside of him building rapidly, ready to explode before Miles nervously raised his hand.
Widow: What is it, Miles?
He gulped nervously
Miles: W-What happens if we win?
Hawkeye and Tony instantly exploded with laughter before going dead silent as they found everyone staring at them deadpan.
Hawkeye: Oh, you guys are serious.
He quickly cleared his throat.
Hawkeye: Well, if you guys win, we'll...
Widow: We'll do whatever you kids want as long as you decide it as a group.
They all seemed to nod beside Yuno, more than happy with that.
Sam: And if you guys win?
Widow went to open her mouth again before Banner came storming in, holding the five-starred Dragon Ball in his hand.
Banner: The Yuno has to tell us what he knows about this.
A heavy silence fell over the room.
Yuno's entire body tensed as he locked eyes with Banner, his heart thudding against his ribs like a war drum. His mind raced, piecing together a response that wouldn't raise too many red flags, but before he could speak, Tony stepped forward.
Tony: Bruce, cmon there's no way the kid knows anything about th-
Banner: He does, Tony. He knew this thing was called a Dragon Ball before I even said anything. He knows.
The Dragon Ball shined under the light in Banner's hand as he smirked toward Yuno, knowing he had him.
Banner: So, what's it gonna be, Yuno? Wanna take on the Avengers?
The second those words left Banner's mouth, they instantly infected Yuno's brain, playing like a song on repeat over and over again in his head, his excitement reaching its peak, finally spilling over to the surface and exploding as he clenched his fist, his energy firing off his body in a white inferno as he smiled, his tail now flowing freely in the winds it created.
Yuno: Alright, let's get this party started.
