chapter 4

When the three oclock bell rang she bolted for her locker. It was going to be a good weekend, she had plenty of reading to do. She emptied some of her school books into her locker before leaving to enjoy her freedom from high school. By then it had become a mad house of kids scrambling out of the building. It was a cool October afternoon. Fall had begun weeks ago, now the green plant life had gone through it's seasonal change. The leaves showed no gree but instead a rainbow of earth tones. Joline admired the colorful leaves as she quickly walked the nine and a half blocks to the library. She couldn't wait to get there. She needed to find books on reincarnation. She thought it may help her figure out these nightmares. When Joline arrived at the library it looked like a ghost town. There wasn't more than two cars in the parking lot. She didn't mind. If no one was here it would mean a better selection of books. Once she made her way to the section marked spiritual, she began going through rows of books. After several rows she found a book on past life regression and smiled. She grabbed it off the shelf and then found a few other titles of intrest. She checked them out and headed home. She couldn't wait to get to her room.

She opened the door to the empty house. Her mother worked the late shift on Friday nights at the tavern. Joline doesn't mind one bit, she enjoyed the solitude. She went to the fridge for her usual caffine fuel up, then straight to her bedroom. She loved to get lost in a book. She read more than most teenagers, almost anything she could get a hold of she'd read it. Throwing her book bag in the corner, she sprawled out across the bed cracking open one of the new books. She would stay focused on it for hours at a time.

As she reached the seventh chapter, getting up to stretch she saw it again. Some kind of shadow orb out of the corner of her eye. She instantly looked again and it was gone. Out of fear she didn't move for a solid ten minutes. Once she felt it was safe to move she lunged for her notebook under the bed. She wanted to write this one down. Then she grabbed the past life book and began to read through it, lighting a fire of curiosity within her. She was fascinated by the first word. By the second chapter she began to take notes on the subject. She sat there all night long until she finished reading the entire thing. She had scribbled down several dream techniques and meditations. When she got ready for bed she put her dream book next to her pillow and wondered if it would help her dreams. Glancin up for a moment she saw small specks of white light, then it disappeared like before. She just shook her head unsure as to what it could possibly be. She looked over the book on past life regression once more. She had seen a few chapters on meditation that were worth another look. If she found just the right meditation she thought about trying it out.

It was all exciting to her, uncharted territory. Joline read over the meditation a couple of times. Then she lit three candles and turned all the lights off in her bedroom. It took her quite a few attempts to relax her body. It took even more to eventually relax her mind as well. Once she had reached a complete state of relaxation, she slipped even further into a deep meditative state.

Soon she found herself in a beautiful forest, walking a long dirt path. Joline kept on the path until she saw a fork in the road. Unsure which way to go she instinctively took the left path. As she got further into the meditation she felt she had been there before, but not for a long long time. It felt like it was more than that, as if her spirit had traveled this road thousands of times prior to this experience. She felt calm and peaceful as she walked further up the left path, then the road came to a down hill slope. In the distance she could see a small farm house with a pond near it. Once she reached the pond she saw someone, an old timer fishing off the dock. She walked up to the old gentleman and smiled. He nodded and invited her to sit with him.

"Have you figured it out yet?" Spoke the old man.

"Figured what out?' She asked with a look of confusion.

"Your extra ordinary gift." He replied.

"What do you mean?"

Then suddenly she was jerked awake by out door noise. She jumped up and scambled to the window. She assumed a cat or raccoon had been responsible for the disturbance. She didn't see anything this time. Joline went over to her bed and grabbed the notebook. She wrote out the results of her meditation and then went to bed.
