Devin (Worthy) x Karmo (Jolt) - A Game of Cat and Bird

A/N -
Some random assassin AU...
-------------

Devin's PoV -

I stayed in the shadows, not only to hide from the midday Nilo sun but also to stay hidden from my prey.

I had been paid, let's just say a good sum of money from a Euran client, to murder a certain Nilonian bird like boy. When I accepted the job I didn't ask questions as to why this bird boy needed killed, no, I just took the job and half the money. I would get the other half after my work was finished. Of course I hid my identity from my clients, they had no idea I myself was half cat.

I crept along, keeping close to the buildings along the alleyway, hiding in the shadows. I had sighted my target, this boy was much taller than me, he was thin built and lanky, he had short dark brown almost black hair, and he was amazingly handsome. I shook the thought out of my head, no, I had a job to do. I stalked on, the boy mostly traveled in the alleys keeping away from the prying eyes of market goers.

I managed to get ahead of this boy's pace, he was quick but I was quicker. I crouched low behind some crates, sword drawn. I would be sure to make quick work of this boy.

I waited and waited in that position, I was begging to get angry. This was a dead end alley, how could he have escaped. I stood, still keeping low. I crept out of my hiding place. In the middle of the alley lay a long brown feather attached to a note. I picked it up and read.

-----------------------
I admit, you are good. You stalk like a cat but I have the intuition of a bird. Come find me...
~ Thunder Bird

I couldn't help but growl. I crumpled the note and hid it in my coat pocket. I inspected the feather, definitely the oily water resistant feather of a hamerkop bird. I ran my fingers across it, soft, my mind fluttered back to the handsome form of that cunning little birdy.

Karmo's PoV -

I stared down at the cat boy, he had finally found my note and feather. I smiled as the boy gently rubbed my feather against his cheek, thinking nobody was watching, I could have sworn I heard a purr from my position on the roof of a nearby building. My mind drifted for a moment, wondering what it would be like to lay next to that boy and caress him with my wings. I blushed and shook the thought away. I watched as the cat boy stalked away, it was quite embarrassing to watch, he tried so hard to hide from me.

When the boy had gone I too stood and walked away. I jumped down into another alley and continued on my way back to the makeshift camp I had made for myself, strategically placed just outside of the busy town. I worked as a hired assassin to make enough money to live on. I was pretty good, even if I do say so myself. My more recent job seemed like a game of cat and mouse or rather cat and bird. I was assigned to assassinate that cat like boy, I was told his code name was Wild Cat. As irony should have it, Wild Cat seemed to be trying to kill me as well.

The life of an assassin was sad, always looking over your shoulder, not quite knowing who was out to get you... It was worries like that, that had kept me alive this long. I stepped into my camp. Everything seemed normal, I would have to make a fire to cook on. I arranged the wood and went to my tent to grab some matches to light it. I crawled into my tent, glad to be home. The moment I looked up though I was met by the lovely fierce eyes of the Wild Cat. He growled and lunged at me. I let out a terrified squawk and backed away. The cat boy followed, his tail fluffed out and swinging side to side confident that he had the upper hand. "Awwww, is the little Thunder Birdy scared!" the Wild Cat taunted.

He lunged and pined me in seconds, I squirmed pathetically under the blade of his sword. When the tip of the metal blade touched me, electricity flowed from me, up the blade, and into its wielder. The cat boy yowled and let go immediately cringing at the power of my electricity. I took the time too pin him, "Now who's the scaredy-cat?" I asked.

I produced a blade from my pocket and pressed it to his throat. He was silent. I pressed the blade harder pinching his skin but not yet drawing blood. "Tell me, are you a scaredy-kitty?" I taunted, after a moment without reply I pressed the blade harder still.

The boy was sweating, I could practically smell his fear. "Answer me!" I commanded.

"Yes, I'm a scaredy-cat," the Wild Cat finally answered me, the movement of his Adam's appel as he talked pierced my blade, blood spilling from the wound my knife created.

I smiled at this. He acted as if I had just made him drink vinegar, he hated answering to me. "Purr for me, little Kitty!" I pressed my knife into the wound.

This time he didn't delay, the cat boy sighed and allowed himself to purr, his tail gently rubbed against my arm as he did so. His cat ears twitches. He was so cute. I removed the knife from his throat satisfied in him. This was a mistake, a moment later the cat boy pinned me to a large tree. "Sing for me birdy!" Wild Cat coed holding a sword to my heart.

I blushed, I had underestimated him. I would accept my fault, I chirped a few tunes I had heard other birds sing. The cat boy smirked and dropped his sword. He held me gently, a purr emitted from his throat and his tail curled around my leg. I gently cuddled back and wrapped my wings around him. "What's your real name?" I asked.

"Devin," the cat like boy looked up at me, the fierceness gone from his eyes replaced by a look of love.

     I smiled, "I'm Karmo."

The boy happily purred in reply.
