Conor's PoV -
"Guys I'm starving, when is dinner going to be ready?!" Rollan complained.
Rollan, Abeke, Meilin, and I sat at our makeshift camp in the middle of the woods. Currently Abeke was making some more arrows for her quiver, Meilin was practicing some attacks, Rollan sat staring at the fire and complaining, and I attempted to read by firelight blankly staring at the words. Meilin stoped her training for a minute, "Rollan, its nighttime, we were too late in setting up the camp to go hunting, we'll all just have to do without dinner tonight," Meilin explained.
Rollan groaned again. "If you want food so bad go on a hunt yourself, I'm always the bread winner," Abeke tried to motivate Rollan.
"I would love to Abeke but my stalking skills are a little rusty to say the least, and last time I checked you had a leopard as a spirit animal and I have a falcon, unless you want a field mouse for dinner..." I was tired of listening to Rollan ramble.
"Briggan and I will go find us something," I stood and grabbed my axe and Briggan trotted over to me.
"Conor, you sure, it's the middle of the night all the dangerous predators are out now," Abeke warned.
"Yeah, predators like wolves, I got Briggan he'll keep me safe," I smiled reassuringly at her and patted Briggan's head.
With that Briggan and I left the camp. The great wolf sniffed around awhile till he found a promising scent, the wolf bounded down a deer trail and I followed, stumbling to keep up. Out of the corner of my eye I cough a slight movement, I silently signaled for Briggan to follow as I crept closer. I hid under a bush and peaked out, a blond teen leaned against a large tree staring up at the sky. His hair was a pale blond and his frame was muscular, then I noticed, he wore a brown cloak fashioned with the symbol of the Conquerors. I stared at the boy and caught myself smiling, I blushed embarrassed with myself. Briggan nuzzled against me pushing me forward. Could Briggan tell that I had a crush on this boy? I pushed my way through the bushes, "H-hello," I blushed as I stuttered a bit on my words.
The boy looked at me surprised and his eyes widened as he seen my green cloak. "Hey," the boy smiled at me and ran his fingers through his hair.
My heart fluttered at this. He was so handsome. He walked closer to me and stood in front of me a little menacingly. "I'm Shane, who are you?"
Out of all the Conquerors, I had to fall for Shane. He was one of, if not the most powerful Conqueror. "I'm Conor," I replied shyly.
"Oh, as in Conor the summoner of Briggan?" Shane asked with a smirk.
"Yeah, that's me," I hesitated worried what Shane was thinking about.
"Interesting... so you've accepted the green?" Shane tugged at my cloak pulling me closer.
I was practically in his arms, "y-yes."
"I just wonder if I could change that for you," Shane smirked and pulled me close, planting a kiss on my lips.
My eyes widened in surprise but I instinctively kissed back. Shane nibbled at my lower lip and I parted my lips allowing Shane entrance, he swirled his tongue around in my mouth nearly choking me a few times. All too soon we pulled away with a small string of saliva connecting our lips. The taller boy stared down at me with loving eyes. "So Conor, how did you like that?" Shane asked with a smirk.
I blushed, "I liked it," I looked down at the ground with embarrassment, "I love you, Shane!"
Shane smiled warmly at me but only a moment later his expression change to one of sad nervousness.
Shane's PoV -
I didn't want to hurt Conor but I had a job to do and I couldn't let my feelings for Conor get in the way. I had never before seen a boy like him. He was so gentle and yet he could fight like a true warrior when the time came. I wanted to run my hands through that blond hair of his but I resisted.
I looked down at him again and my eyes landed on that green cloak. I felt a bit of fury raising inside of me. A moment later I had grabbed that cloak of his and pulled it off of him, earning a whine of protest from Conor. The cloak fell to the ground, where it belonged, only a few feet away.
Next I lifted Conor's head so that he was looking up at me. I quickly grabbed onto his thigh, surprising him, he reacted the way I had hoped, he opened his mouth to scream or protest but I took a vile of the bile from a hidden pocket in my cloak. I uncorked the bottle and shoved it in his mouth. Conor fought his way free but it was too late, he had already ingested some of the bile. Conor coughed but couldn't managed to rid himself of the bile. I heard a wolf's howl of protest coming from a set of nearby bushes. Briggan bounded over to wear his summoner stood and gently licked Conor's hand in support. "I'm sorry boy," Conor stated between coughs and gently rubbed the wolves head.
Then Conor turned towards me. "Why the hell would you do that to me?"
I felt bad, I knew I had practically just cursed him, Gerathon would constantly be lurking in his head. It was my job though to turn this war in favor of the Conquerors and corrupting one of the Fallen Four summoners was definitely a good place to start. "I'm sorry, Conor, I had to... for Stetriol," I replied as I walked closer to where I stood next to Conor and Briggan.
Slowly I wrapped my arms around Conor and pulled him into an awkward hug. Conor rested his head on my chest. "Conor, I want to love you but... I'm afraid to," I admitted.
Conor looked up at me with burdened eyes but an amused smile, "Why would the Devourer be afraid to love a shepherd boy?" Conor asked as he ran his fingers gently along my side where my crocodile waited in passive.
"Conor, your way more that just a shepherd boy," I smiled at him, "also, I've never felt the way I do about you with anybody else before."
Conor cuddled closer to me. I wanted Conor to stay with me, I had seen him before in previous battles and instantly fell for him.
Conor's PoV -
He's wrong Conor, what's so special about you? Your really are just a simple shepherd boy with no future, you can't even read...
My brain was corrupted by some evil voice, I shook my head trying to clear those thoughts. Tears pricked at my eyes, was this voice speaking the truth. "Conor," this concerned voice was Shane's, "Are you okay?"
I couldn't take it anymore, I lay my head against Shane's shoulder and started to cry. "No, there's an evil voice in my head!"
Shane gently kissed my forehead. "That's Gerathon, she now can control your thoughts and even your actions... all the Conquerors have to deal with her, I'm so sorry Conor!" Shane explained with sadness in his voice, I truly do believe her regretted giving me the bile.
"Shane, I really shouldn't love you but I can't keep myself from it," I cuddled into him, my tears were starting to fade.
We sat like that for awhile, staring off into the dark woods. Then Shane offered for me to stay with him and the other Conquerors. I finally agreed, knowing now I would only be a burden to my Greencloak friends.
I followed Shane through the woods back to the Conqueror's camp. It wasn't very far, lights from campfires began to come into sight, as well as the Conqueror's tents. A few were still up and going about their chores.
Shane stopped in front of and tent and held the flap up for me to crawl into. "This is my tent, you'll be sleeping here with me till I can find you one of your own," Shane stated and crawled in after me.
There were some blankets and pillows inside. Along with a few of Shane's possessions. Really this isn't how I would have imagined the tent of the Devourer to look like. Shane crawled under his blankets and patted the spot next to him signaling for me to lay next to him. I crawled under the covers next to him and hugged him glad to share his body heat. Shane had changed everything I thought I knew, for better or for worse, so I lay there next to him pondering my future. I wouldn't be worried as long as I had Shane. I was exhausted and only a few minutes later and I was asleep.
