Nathan and Sam were running for their lives. A man was chasing him, and Nathan was shocked when he saw him.
Throughout the course of three days, Nathan had been getting bombarded by the being inside of him. Once it got to the third day, a man showed up, and started chucking fireballs at them.
They had no idea why, and Nathan couldn't help but recognize the face. He didn't know what to do in a situation like this, but every time he glanced back, his hearing and sight dimmed, telling him the being was coming, so he would quickly look away.
As he ran, he felt his legs starting to weaken and ache. Sam turned around and yanked on his arm when he saw him slow down. "Move faster, fat ass!"
Sam only cussed when he was angry, scared or when he was in front of rich people, so Nathan knew this was serious. Sam kept casting glances back as Nathan began to lose to the being. Feeling exhausted, he finally let him take command.
His vision and hearing dimmed, and his body was disconnected from his mind. He sighed. Maybe it was for the best.
♧
Spirit brushed off his clothes while the other boy, Sam, was telling him to hurry up. Spirit ignored him as he awaited the arrival of one of his old friends. At least, hopefully still friend. He wasn't sure which one.
A fireball suddenly flew out from a tree and almost burnt Spirit's head off. He grumbled in annoyance as he rocked back and forth on his heels.
The man stepped put from the shadows, smirking. Spirit grinned. "Hey, it's my main man, Aaron!"
Aaron scoffed. "Spirit. What do you want?"
"What do I want?"
Aaron raised an eyebrow. "Yes, don't play dumb with me."
Spirit chuckled. "You flatter me."
Aaron rolled his eyes, but then his expression hardened. "Why are you here. You are supposed to be dead."
Spirit bit his lip. "About that..."
The Sam kid suddenly whimpered, causing Nathan to get more aware of his surroundings. Spirit hissed when his neck started to hurt. He rubbed it, and drew attention to himself from Sam.
"N-N-Nathan, c-c-come on. We can't be l-l-late."
"Who's Nathan?" Aaron asked. "This is Spirit."
Spirit muttered profanities under his breath, drawing the others attention to him. "Spirit?" Sam managed to say. What is with this guy and me? I save his life for fucks sake.
"Yes, Spirit. The man who hates the government and everything they stand for, and from a dead nation defeated by us. He tried to end us all for that."
Sam looked at him. "That's not him. That is my friend, Nathan. He is an Element."
"Which one?" Aaron asked.
Sam opened his mouth, but Spirit slapped a hand over his mouth. "Good chat you two, great, great chat! What do you say we end it?"
The two scowled at him. Spirit back up cautiously. "Let's play a game."
"What kind of game?" Aaron said, his tone showing how annoyed he was.
"Okay. I'll explain it in such a way even you can understand it, Aaron."
Aaron growled, but didn't say anything. Spirit continued. "You, Aaron, run back to your little hobbit hole or whatever bridge you sleep under, and Sam, you go over there while I relinquish control over you-know-who."
Aaron and Sam scoffed. "As if." They both said.
Spirit's face twisted into annoyance. He was about to say something when an arrow almost hit Aaron in the shoulder. "As much as I hate to shoot without talking first, I need to deliver you all to the Priest."
Spirit eyed the man who stepped put of the shadows. He had gelled black hair, dark brown hair, and darker skin. He had a black bow made out of strong wood. The arrows were tipped with poison, but that wasn't the oddest part about him.
He was wearing butler attire. The black coat with the long coat tails, a white button down shirt, yellow bow tie, black trousers and black dress shoes. Spirit raised an eyebrow at the odd sight. "why are you dressed like you're about to serve me tea?" he asked.
THe man didn't respond, but kept an arrow aimed at Aaron. "Gerard, you really do not know what this man has done, huh?"
Gerard gritted his teeth. "I know full well what he has done, but my master instructed me to bring him to him."
Sam gulped. "What about...?"
"Yes, you too. You are friends with Nathan, yes?"
Sam nodded. Gerard grave him a sturdy smile. "Let's go then, shall we? Oh, and Spirit?"
"Yes, my man?"
"Give Nathan's body back to him."
Spirit grumbled but did as he was told. He sighed as he sank back into the darkness. At least I will get some shut eye...
♧
"So..." Nathan said as they sat in the carriage Gerard was driving.
The man glanced at him, and then scowled. Nathan pressed his lips together and let his head hang. This guy really didn't want to be spoken to, especially by him.
"You could be a bit nicer." Sam said, trying to sound as nice as possible. Nathan almost wanted to yell at him to not disturb the beast, but he figured he'd be lit on fire for that.
Speaking of being ignited, he couldn't help but wonder how this guy had Ayden's ability. Only one person had the Elemental power at a time. So, who was he? The man must have sensed Nathan's gaze on him because his green eyes locked onto his for a second. He stared intently at Nathan before averting his gaze back out the window. Nathan slumped back into the seat. Maybe it was for the best.
Gerard opened the small window on the back of the carriage. "We are almost there." he said, shutting it once he finished.
Sam immediately turned to the window and looked out. He pointed at a sign, saying it was Nathan's home town. Aaron eyed him when he said this, but looked back outside again.
As the carriage moved through town, people watched it. As Nathan peered outside, he felt like he was in a whole other world.
His 'home town' was a rich town, at least, from what Nathan could tell. everything looked like it came out of one of those story books you would read in history class. It was the second choice for capital, so it was to be assumed it would try to be as extravagant as possible. Nathan closed his eyes. "Is it great to finally see it?" Sam asked, admiring the view. "You must have been dreaming about leaving, huh?"
Nathan said nothing, trying to get his mind off the fact that he was lying to his best friend. He sighed as a wave of exhaustion hit him. Aaron finally spoke to him. "Tired, kid?"
Nathan nodded as his eyelids started to drop. Suddenly, the carriage jerked to a stop, causing Nathan to almost fall into Sam's lap. Sam managed to push his hands out just in time, but it still hurt when his hands slammed into Nathan's chest. The wind was knocked out of him and he struggled getting another breath for a few seconds.
After the whole ordeal ended, Gerard opened the door and invited them out. Nathan stepped out and examined the cottage they were in front of.
As soon as he saw it, his hearing started to dim and his eye sight became strained and dull. He closed his eyes while he waited for it to return to normal.
Sam patted his back as he was led inside. He still kept his eyes clamped shut, in fear of 'Spirit' coming out.
He heard a door open and a man's voice. "Aaron! So glad to see you."
"Same goes for you, Manuel."
Even with his eyes closed, Nathan's legs wobbled as he strained to keep in control. He knew this was Spirit's friend. Let me stay in control for now, please he thought, hoping he'd listen.
His body relaxed and he carefully peeled open his eyes. Everyone was staring at him. He recognized the couple in the room as Manuel and Venus, both looking worried. Sam and Gerard of course looked worried, but he was shocked when Aaron looked nervous. "Yes?" He asked, eyeing them all.
"Spirit?" Manuel asked.
Nathan fell on his knees as Spirit tried coming out. The pain in his mind was almost unbearable, but he had to keep up with it. He tried shoving Spirit away, which he hardly succeeded at. When Spirit finally calmed down, he looked up again, completely aware of how swollen his eyes were and how tear stained his face was.
"Are you alright Sp-" Venus started.
"No." Nathan snapped. "Don't say his name. It'll only make it worse."
Venus and Manuel looked at Gerard and Aaron. "Spirit possesses him." Aaron replied.
They both nodded. "Sorry about that..."
"Nathan."
"Yes, thank you. Sorry about that Nathan." Manuel finished.
Nathan nodded before glancing around. "Where are we?"
"Our home." Manuel said, gesturing to Venus.
"You chose a wicked place." Sam said. Nathan rolled his eyes at his choice of wording, but didn't say anything about it.
Manuel chuckled. "Thank you."
Sam grinned. Nathan rolled his eyes but chuckled at his wide grin. He turned away, only to lock eyes with a picture. It was a painting, one of Manuel, Venus, Aaron, a young girl, and someone who looked like Nathan. He walked over to it and stared at it. "I see you found one of our paintings." Venus murmured.
Nathan stared at the man who looked like him. Was this Spirit? He had to be a few years older than him, maybe his early to mid twenties. His hair was cut, unlike Nathan's. His hadn't been cut for a few months. He was significantly healthier and buffer, and his eyes were the same odd violet. He, unlike Nathan, was wearing clothes fit for a Lord. All the other Elements were wearing stuff fit for a King or Queen. As Nathan stared at the painting, Spirit sent him a blurb of feeling. Jealousy.
Nathan grit his teeth once the feeling arrived. It soon became anger, and the whole 'happy look' Spirit plastered onto his face started to look fake. Nathan scowled, drawing everyone's attention to him.
"Nathan?" Came Venus' voice. "Are you...alright?"
Nathan put on a calm face and turned to face them. "Of course! Why wouldn't I be?"
"I am sure he is just tired." Sam said. "Do you have a place we could sleep for the night in?"
"We had most of the rooms ready, but Aaron is staying in one, Gerard is coming to stay, a well known merchant took the third one, and the other is under renovation."
"I thought that had been ready when the Elements were here?"
Nathan stiffened, but said nothing. "Yes, but we figured we could get it done before you came back, which we clearly haven't. However, it will be ready tomorrow and the merchant will have left by the time it is done, so you and Sam can stay here tomorrow." Venus answered.
Sam sighed, but put on a smile anyways. "Alright then, we can stay in a hotel or something."
Nathan grinned, knowing exactly what he was doing. "We do not have any money, Sam."
Sam sighed. "I know...perhaps we'll sleep on the streets or something like that."
Venus and Manuel exchanged looks. They seemed to have a silent argument before Manuel sighed in defeat. He turned to face them. "We can give you enough money for the hotel and food in case you get hungry."
Sam held up his thumb. "Great!"
Nathan grinned at his friend. 'Great plan, my man!'
Sam pretended to look humble. 'It is no big deal.'
Then, his face busted into his egotistical grin. 'But I was pretty awesome, huh?'
Nathan laughed in his head before they were handed the money. Nathan looked over the crumpled bills before Sam took them from him. Nathan couldn't understand math in the slightest, but he was a pro at reading. If you named a language, Nathan could speak it. Sam was the best at math. He could do practically every math calculation you threw at him. However, language was not his forte. He could hardly read his own, let alone others.
Nathan and Sam turned on their heels and started heading outside after saying their goodbyes. Sam turned to him, giggling like a mad man. "Where should we go?"
Nathan sighed and rolled his eyes, but grinned at his friend anyways. "I saw this really good hotel a bit of the ways down the road. I also saw a lot of people crowding around it though."
"Perhaps a show is being hosted?"
"It is the Nobles, dolt."
Sam grumbled. "I saw no other places to stay."
Nathan sighed. "I guess it'll have to do."
Sam nodded. "Let us just hope there is not gonna be any hardships."
Nathan grumbled an agreement as he trudged up the street. Soon, they reached the entrance. Crowds of people stood at the entrance, so Sam and Nathan had to push through to get in. As they were making their way through, Nathan accidentally knocked someones drink out of their hand. They hissed at him. "What the hell do you think you are doing here, you sorry excuse for a human?"
Nathan bit his lip, holding back the tears. He hated being called names, especially ones that questioned his existence. He turned away and hurried through the doors, ignoring everyone else's rude remarks.
When he got inside, Sam was waiting for him, a sorry look on his face. Nathan gave him a fake smile and then walked over to the reception. At first, she was cautious about the two, but then she saw the bills, so she let them through.
Nathan stood at the door she assigned them, and then opened it. He ran in, only to find it smaller than he expected. A small kitchen was fit snugly in the corner. A single couch was near it, and then two twin beds were at the farthest end. Thankfully, the bathroom had it's own separate room. Nathan groaned before flopping on one of the beds. Sam sighed, clearly annoyed at the room, but laid down on the other one without fussing.
He turned his head towards Nathan, and smiled. "feels nice to have an actual bed, huh?"
"Yes, well, not the best, but better than nothing."
"It'll do for a night." Sam agreed, closing his eyes.
Nathan smiled at his friend as his eyes fluttered closed. Soon, he was far into dreamland.
♧
Nathan woke up to the pounding of fists at the door. Sam was deep in sleep, drool drizzling out of his mouth. Nathan chuckled as he walked in a haze over to the door. he opened it and was met with a bare chest. he craned his neck upwards and almost jumped out of his skin.
Wesley was standing in front of him, his eyes wide. He was opening and closing his mouth like a goldfish, but no coherent words were being spoken. Nathan muttered profanities under his breath as he shut the door. No matter how much Wesley needed to speak with him, he wouldn't hear it. He trudged to the bathroom, ignoring his thundering fists pounding on the frail, wooden door.
Nathan grabbed a washcloth and some of the rare luxuries: soap, lotion, and what looked like some sort of spray that smelled like pin wood. He grinned as he sniffed it, and then peeled his clothes off.
After cleaning his dirty body, he looked up and realized how white his hair really was. He touched it, and then sighed as he looked for a brush. Soon, after his hair was brushed out, he found one of the towels and wrapped it around his waist as he waled out to find clothes. He was going to just walk out naked because this was Sam, but as soon as he walked out, he was glad he had a towel on.
The Nobles sat on the couch, Sam sandwiched between them, clearly annoyed and forced into this predicament. Nathan felt his face flush red as Lela and Ashlee looked over. Lela's face flushed red with anger, while Ashlee's flushed red, but no emotion seemed to be radiating off of her. Nathan looked towards the small knapsacks he and Sam had, so he hurried over to his, slung it over his shoulder, and raced back into the bathroom.
He looked down at his stomach and chest, still shocked to see the muscles that seemed to come once Spirit decided to grace him with his presence. He shook his head, shaking him out before it was too late. However, it was too late as soon as he thought his name.
Spirit took over his body, so Nathan grimaced, ready for a show. Spirit slipped the clothes on and grinned like a maniac as he looked into the mirror, rubbing his hands together.
"Show Time."
