XII: Hope

A heartfelt testimonial given at morning's age,
Of a long life in happiness surrounded,
Yet to see the gift that he had been- everyone was late,
And to finish his task in exchange for valuables: he allowed it.

He allowed himself to be ripped from gold,
To lose the perks and items he had worked hard for,
For all of them to be taken by strangers and sold,
All for his goal: to save the world.

From the arrogant, from the hunters of the mystic El Dorado,
He vowed to protect mankind with all of his strength,
Yet he was just a simple man in an uneven saddle
And he was limited by life's length.

Now he lied in the cold coffin,
Facing the darkness that he wanted to light,
And everyone out there believed he was bluffing,
Because there couldn't have been a way for him to be right.

Cheap glory hunters, bribed by riches
That were only like sand flowing through the Sahara dessert.
From their voyage they'd come back with stiches,
While he lied in his coffin, in silence and his goal fulfilled:

A small light illuminated in the darkness
And hope was there for the future.
