When the dead began to rise, the living learned to run. They ran for their lives, sprinting from the shadows of death that lurked behind every corner. But no one could run forever.

For Cohen, her mother Noelle was their lifeline. With their father away for work, it was Noelle who bore the weight of survival, caring for Cohen, her sister Jennifer, and their youngest, Archer. But Archer wasn't like the others—he was fragile, his body weakened by leukemia. Running was a luxury he couldn't afford.

Noelle's love for her children burned fiercely, but for Archer, it was a fire that consumed her. When his legs gave out, she carried him. She carried him through the chaos, through exhaustion, through terror. But even a mother's strength has limits.

Trapped in a crumbling building, surrounded by the groans of walkers, their time ran out. Cohen begged her mother to find a way, to get them out. Above them, a narrow opening in the ceiling promised salvation, but starvation and dehydration had stolen their strength.

With trembling hands, Noelle lifted Cohen and Jennifer to safety. But when it was her turn—when it was Archer's turn—her body betrayed her. She couldn't do it. Tears streaming down her face, she made Cohen promise to protect her sister. Moments later, the walkers closed in.

Cohen and Jennifer could only watch, frozen in horror, as their mother and brother disappeared beneath a sea of ravenous hands. Their screams were swallowed by the guttural groans of the undead.

And so, the two sisters ran. They ran until their legs buckled, until their lungs burned, until they found something they hadn't seen in so long: safety.

Alexandria.

The settlement took them in, offering care and kindness without question. For the first time in what felt like forever, Cohen and Jennifer could breathe. But peace was fragile, and when a new group arrived, bringing with them the threat of change, Cohen's hard-earned trust wavered.

She had already lost too much. And she wasn't about to lose more.
