Chapter 15
Thanks to the attention we gain whenever we go out, Delmars got free advertising, so we got a free sandwich as thanks. I smiled gratefully and paid for the sandwiches I ordered.
After everyone else ate, I led them back to the orphanage. I could feel the fear radiating off of them as we stepped onto the front steps. Everything was deathly quiet. You could feel Medusas bloodlust flowing through the front door. My spider sense was screaming at me to run away.
"Everyone, go around the back again." I ordered in a whisper. "You know what to do."
"Peter, you can't keep doing this. You have to let us take some of the beatings too." Jeremy argued quietly so Medusa wouldnt hear.
"You didnt even eat with us because shell make you throw up, right?" Chris H questioned knowingly.
"You gotta let us take some of her punches at least." Robert grumbled, crossing his arms.
"No. Im not letting that bi-" I coughed, catching myself before I cussed in front of the little ones. I cant have them repeating my words at their age. Tom stared at me in confusion while Chris Evans smirked, though he quickly wipes it away.
"I mean monster- even touch you guys. Medusa isnt laying a single finger on any of you, now do as I say and get in through the back." I ordered.
Scarlett nodded grimly before leading the others around the side of the house as I opened the door.
"WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN? YOU PIECE OF SHIT!" Ms. Medy screamed out, throwing a bottle at me. It hit the wall beside me, sending glass flying everywhere. I felt a few shards sit the side of my face, drawing blood.
Medusa wobbled toward me drunkenly, backhanding me and forcing me to the ground. I could have swore I heard something break as I landed on my shoulder, but I had bigger problems to worry about at the moment.
Medusa was currently stalking over me with pure hatred in her eyes.
Its going to be a long night...
Natashas POV
Sitting in my room, I smiled as I listened in on Peter talking to his siblings through the bug I had placed on his shoulder. Fury got to bug the kid. Why shouldnt I be able to? He was currently pretending to not know what the kids would want to eat, despite them all yelling the same thing. When they finally said it in sync, I heard him snap his fingers.
"Why didnt I think of that? Lets go!" He chirped, making me chuckle a bit.
How has this kid made me this expressive in such a short amount of time?
Just then, the door to my room opened to reveal Clint, Wanda, and Pietro. I glared at Clint for just walking in but sighed when he just grinned back.
"You listening in on the kid? He just left a bit ago." He said, sitting on the bed beside me. Pietro and Wanda sat across from me, crossing their legs. Of course he would know I put a mic on Peter.
I sighed and put it on through a small speaker. Clint and the twins were the only ones I could ever be even slightly expressive around. If it were anyone else, itd be really awkward for me, so I dont.
Why? Because Clint is like a brother to me and Ive known him the longest. The twins were like children to him, so that kind of makes me their aunt of sorts.
"So why did you bug Peter? Something bothering you?" Clint guessed, leaning back on the headboard of the bed.
I nodded.
"When he was talking earlier, he looked like he was hiding something, but it doesnt make sense. He told us about Spider-Man, so what could he be hiding?" I wondered aloud.
"I-I am unable to enter his mind. Its like hes blocking me out without even knowing it." Wanda suddenly announced with a sad look in her eyes. "Either that or theres something he doesnt want to think about, so he locked his mind up."
Pietro put an arm around her shoulder to calm her down.
We sat in silence, the only noise being Peters siblings chanting Delmars over and over again.
"Those kids must really love that Delmars place." Clint joked after a minute full of chanting. Pietro and Wanda let out small laughs.
I brought out my laptop and began searching through the web for live footage of Peter. Two dozen kids constantly chanting is bound to have gained attention. When I found a video, I nearly died from the high adorable level. Peter was leading a line of kids like ducklings following their mother. I smiled, turning the screen to the others.
Clint and Pietro broke into howls of laughter while Wanda let out a quiet aww.
When the cheering finally stopped, the video ended, so I put the laptop away.
"Sup, Mister Delmar." Peters voice said through the speaker.
"Mister Parker. Number five, right?" A mans voice said.
"Thanks for remembering, but not this time. I brought my siblings with me today."
"Ah! You mean my little walking advertisements, right?" The Delmar guy chuckled. Walking advertisements? Well, I guess hes got a point. Peters all over the internet.
"Can I have two dozen of the number 4 please?" Peter asked, shuffling noises in the background.
"Hey Murph. How you doing buddy?" He said, followed by a quiet meow. A cat?
"You're not getting anything? Thats rare. You feeling alright, kid?" Delmar commented, a small hint of worry in his voice but it was hardly noticeable.
"Y-Yeah. Im good. I ate not too long ago, so Im not that hungry." Peter stuttered.
But he didnt eat anything. We all skipped lunch so the fighting could continue. Theres no way hes not hungry. Whys he lying?
The look on the others faces said they were thinking the exact same thing.
"Alright, then. It'll be $120 for 24 sandwiches, Parker. Seeing as you gave me free advertisements, I'll throw in a number five for free. You can eat it later when you get hungry." Delmar responded.
"That'd be awesome, Mister Delmar. Thanks!"
"Five dollars a sandwich, huh? Not bad." Clint mumbled.
"Best Sandwiches in Queens." Peter chirped, followed by a whole bunch of ruffling that sounded like plastic bags.
"Thanks, Mister Delmar. See you later!"
"Bye, Parker."
With that, the sound of a door closing was followed by a few dozen voices cheering. I smiled at the thought of children cheering around Peter for food.
Clint and Pietro had a smirk on their faces, earning light kicks in the ribs from me.
After a while of quiet, they seemed to be on the move again. However, something was different. It was a sort of tense silence that you could feel fear from. What's going on?
"Everyone, go around the back again." Peters voice ordered in a whisper that I could barely hear. I put up the volume on the speaker. "You know what to do."
I felt confusion wash through me and I could see it on the others' faces as well.
"Peter, you can't keep doing this. You have to let us take some of the beatings too." A boys voice argued quietly from the background.
Beatings!?
"You didn't even eat with us because she'll make you throw up, right?" A different voice questioned. He didn't eat...so he wouldn't throw up when getting beat...
"You gotta let us take some of her punches at least." Yet another voice grumbled.
"No. Im not letting that bi-" Peter coughed, pausing for a second. "I mean monster- even touch you guys. Medusa isnt laying a single finger on any of you, now do as I say and get in through the back."
I sat there stunned to what I had just heard. There was quiet shuffling as the sound of a doorknob clicking open was heard.
"WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN? YOU PIECE OF SHIT!" A womans voice screamed out, making us wince from the volume of the speakers. Pietro immediately put the volume down.
The sound of glass breaking came from the speakers, followed by a loud slap and a loud thud. Then...nothing. The...mic broke
We all sat in stunned silence. Wanda and Pietro had tears running down their faces as they stared at the speaker that sat between us.
When it all finally sank in, I felt pure rage fill up inside me. Jumping up off the bed, I began to make my way to the door, already holding a dagger in my hand. How dare this woman even think of hurting Peter! Im going to have her head on a stake when Im through with her.
"Nat! Wait!" Clint stopped me, standing in front of the door way.
"Out of the way, Clint. You're not stopping me." I growled.
"Nat, we cant just barge in there. I want to kill the bitch as much as you do, but we need to do it legally or we'll get thrown into a cell. You're still on thin ice from the last time you did this." He explained calmly. Just then, it popped into my head.
Fury.
I whipped out my phone and dialed his number. He bugged Peter, too, so theres got to be a plan already forming in his mind.
"Agent Romanoff, if youre calling about Parker, calm down. Ive heard the audio and Im still listening. Its not pretty. Send the Avengers to the meeting room. I'll l explain the plan from there." Fury explained with a hard tone in his voice before hanging up. I knew it.
I turned to the others.
"Meeting room. Now. Friday, get everyone else in there." I ordered, walking out of my room with Clint following right behind me. The twins came behind him, anger in their eyes.
Entering the meeting room, I took a seat and waited for everyone else in silence.
Let's get this plan in action as soon as possible. Peters in pain right this moment, but were just having a meeting.
I moved my leg up and down anxiously as we waited. Clint and the twins gave me worried looks, but I ignored them.
Poor Peter...
3rd Person POV
Gathering into the meeting room, the other Avengers immediately took note of Natashas bloodlust and stayed silent. None of them wanted to be her next victim for foolishly saying the wrong thing. Even Tony stayed silent, sitting as close to Stephen as possible for protection.
As soon as Fury stepped into the room, Natasha abruptly stood up and walked to him. The other Avengers, besides Clint and the twins, tensed up in their seats.
"Is it still going on?" Natasha asked, her voice dripping with anger.
Fury nodded grimly, tapping the earpiece he had on to show he was listening to live audio. This news was only adding fuel to the redheads bloodlust. She spun on her heel and went back to her seat, though it took all her willpower to not storm out on a killing spree.
"I have an important mission for you all. This involves Parker." Fury stated bluntly, gaining everyones attention immediately. Especially a certain wizard and his billionaire husband.
"Whats wrong with Peter?" Tony questioned, not even bothering to hide his worry.
"Parkers being abused." Fury announced bluntly, though a little hesitantly. This stunned everyone in the room that didnt already know.
"W..What?..." Stephen stuttered out weakly.
"Play it, Fury." Natasha ordered, her voice still filled with rage.
Fury nodded and connected his ear piece to a speaker. Within seconds, the silent room was filled with the unmistakable sounds of kicks and punches.
"WHO SAID YOU CAN GO OUT TODAY, YOU LITTLE BITCH!?" A womans voice screamed, making everyone wince from the volume.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am." Peters voice replied weakly before going into a coughing fit. His breathing was ragged with a bit of a wheeze.
Hearing the cheerful boys voice sound so pitiful, the Avengers were all filled with heartbreak and rage. Bruce stood up and left the room, looking alarmingly green.
"DAMN RIGHT YOURE SORRY! AS PUNISHMENT, YOURE CLEANING THE ENTIRE HOUSE FOR TOMORROW'S VISITORS. YOU GET NO SLEEP UNTIL ITS FINISHED." The woman hissed, continuing to beat Peter. After a few seconds, there was a sickening crack that was immediately followed by a small groan from Peter and a wicked laugh from the woman. Soon enough, her laughter became distant and ended, leaving the furious Avengers in silence.
"Whats the plan?" Tonys voice cut through the silence like a knife, dangerously calm. It sent shivers down everyones backs, including Natasha.
"You do have a plan, right?" Stephen asked, his tone identical to Tonys.
Fury nodded his head warily, but before he could open his mouth to explain what said plan was, the sound of footsteps came from the speaker.
"Oh god. Peter..." a boys voice whispered.
"What are you guys doing down here? Its not safe until Medusa falls asleep. Go back upstairs with the others." Peters voice ordered weakly, making the Avengers' hearts break.
"No way. Just look at your leg! We cant just leave you like this!" Another childs voice whisper yelled. Rage filed the Avengers as they processed the earlier crack was of bone breaking. Wanda let tears fall and hugged her twin for comfort.
"I don't give a damn about my leg. Get back to the others before she hears you and comes back." Peter hissed.
"Peter, what's this on your shoulder?" A different voice asked, sounding much closer than the others.
"What?"
There was a tense pause as the Avengers realized they had been found out.
"Everyone. Go back to the others. NOW." Peter ordered, his voice as cold as ice. The sounds of foot steps quickly running away into the distance sent fear into the eavesdroppers. The kids that had refused to leave just a second ago had run away.
"Fury." Peter called into the mic, his voice heavy with venom. "Don't you do a thing, got that? I know youre listening. This isnt your concern."
With that, the sound of static filled the room, followed by an eerie silence.
