Chapter 12
Peters POV
I watched as Dr. Strange walked toward me with magic circles under his hands. Wh-Whats he going to do? I tensed up as he kneeled in front of me and waved his hands over the chains on me. The chains disappeared along with the glowing circles, making me relax a bit.
"So, Peter. Why didnt you just tell us about this earlier?" He asked in a quiet voice.
"I..." I began, quickly getting a loss for words. What am I even supposed to tell him? That I have an entire orphanage to feed and didnt want to risk losing my job? That will just make them pity me. I dont need their pity. I sighed, giving in anyways to their stares.
"I have people to protect. It wouldnt make it any easier of people knew my identity. Even the Avengers. I couldnt risk the possibility of a leak on who I was." I explained, staring down at the floor again. They all gave nods of understanding, well except for Natasha. She gave me a skeptical look.
"When we first tried to talk to you, you said you had kids. I highly doubt you actually have kids, so why?" She questioned, staring me down.
"My siblings, Miss Natasha. My siblings and I are often home alone while...our guardian goes to work on weekends." I announced, choosing my words carefully. "So I often have to feed them and help around the house."
"Why did this whole Spider-Man thing even start if you have so much to lose?" She raised an eyebrow.
"I want to be able to protect my siblings. I dont want them to be growing up in a town where muggings and robberies are happening 24/7. This is all mainly for them." I admitted.
"Mainly?"
"Well...the Stark Internship thing was pretty exciting and I had a lot of fun hanging out with you all earlier today, but I'm guessing I'm fired and going to jail after this, aren't I?" I hugged my knees closer to my chest.
"Who said anything about jail? Or getting fired?" Stephen questioned, making me look up from the floor in confusion. What does he mean? Oh god, is there going to be a worse punishment than jail?
"Kid, youre not going to jail and youre sure as hell not fired." Tony placed a hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry, Peter. You're not going to be punished for this. We just needed to know who Spider-Man was and recruit him if we could."
"Recruit?" I echoed in confusion. Everyone nodded, including Bruce who had returned from who knows where.
"Fury wanted the Spider to be an ally of the Avengers because he was a potential threat. As the saying goes: Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." Bucky explained, watching as Steve's cocoon finally began to dissolve. "Not that youre an enemy. It's just Fury doesnt know where to classify you."
I nodded in understanding. I wouldnt trust me either if i were him. Im some random guy in a Spider hoodie.
"So?"
"So...what?" I asked, confused once again.
"What do you say, kid? Would you like to be an Avenger?" Tony cut in, a large grin on his face. It took a few seconds until it finally sunk in. Theyre asking me...to be an Avenger. Spider-Man as...an Avenger. OH MY GOD!!! THEY WANT ME AS AN AVENGER!!
"YES!!!" I yelled out excitedly, smiling like a mad man. Seeing a few of them flinch from my outburst, I turned my smile into an apologetic one. "Sorry."
They all laughed a bit at my actions, Natasha even laughed a bit.
"I like you, Man of Spiders. Your actions are quite amusing." Thor boomed, making me wince again from his volume, but I kept smiling. My spirits havent been this high in years. Unfortunately, my Parker Luck wouldnt allow that. My phone began to ring in my pocket, blasting the Star Wars theme ringtone. I whipped it out of my pocket to see it was my 4 am alarm. Shit! Its already 4?!?
"I gotta go, guys. I'll be back in a few hours, so I can answer any questions you have then." I announced, standing up and hurriedly walking over to the nearest window. Opening it, I hopped onto the ledge and put my mask back on.
"Alright, kiddo. See you in a few hours." Tony smiled. The others did the same, giving me little waves in goodbye. Okay, One more thing before I go.
"Oh, and Steve." I called, turning around to face him. Taking out my phone again, I snapped a few pictures as fast as I could.
"Nice dress." I commented before allowing myself to freefall out the window. Thanks to my enhanced hearing, I could hear everyone snickering or howling with laughter. The best thing I managed to hear before I was out of hearing range was Natasha.
"Sorry, Steve, but I'm not letting you into my closet." I nearly crashed into a building from laughing so much. After my laughter died, the usual grim feeling washed over me. I better hurry and get everyone out of the house. I think I heard Medusa mumbling something about visitors tomorrow during her punches. If shes telling the truth, then its no wonder she was so pissy. It means she has to actually stay for the weekend and do paperwork if they adopt someone. Need to get the kids out of the house before she wakes up.
Swinging into the boys room, I quickly crawled on the ceiling in order to avoid the risk of stepping on one of them. I crawled into the closet and changed into my regular clothes.
"Alright, everyone. Time to wake up." I spoke in a quiet voice, hoping to not wake up Medusa.
"But it's Saturday." One of them whined groggily, though I couldn't tell who.
"Last night, Medusa mentioned visitor were coming tomorrow." I announced with a sigh.
As expected, they all snapped out of their sleep and began packing away their blankets immediately. Their fear of her breaks my heart. These kids shouldnt be having to live like this.
"Okay, my spiderlings, get dressed. Well get breakfast at McDonalds, then go to the library for the day." I smiled, earning a few quiet groans about the library part and whispered cheers about going to McDonalds.
We were out of the orphanage within five minutes, all of the kids chattering amongst themselves excitedly as we walked in a line to the closest McDonalds. With all the kids, we took up half of the restaurants space. Its a good thing this place is empty at this time of the day. It would suck to have people here staring at us while we eat. After everyone had been seated in the booths, I went up the register where a very stunned looking cashier was standing.
"Hi." I greeted, snapping her out of her daze.
"H-Hello. What can I get for you?" She asked politely. It might have been my imagination, but I could have swore I saw a look in her eyes that screamed 'I want a kid!' as she stared at my group of siblings. I hope you get one. Anyone who likes kids is alright in my book. Good luck, lady.
"I'd like 2 dozen orders of pancakes, 2 dozen medium orange juices, and one large hot chocolate."
"Gotta have that sugary chocolate." She commented with a grin and a knowing look in her eyes as I swiped my debit card. The price definitely took a hit on my savings, but the laughter I heard from behind me told me it was worth it.
"I'm practically running on the stuff." I laughed as she gave me the receipt.
"So whats the occasion? A school field trip?" She asked, staring at my group as they chatted happily.
"Not exactly. We are on a little trip to the library, but its not for school. I just wanted my siblings to be out of the house for once." I said with a smile. Her eyes widened, making me get a little confused.
"They're ALL your siblings?" She questioned in disbelief. I laugh nervously and nod.
"Amazing. They're lucky kids to have a big brother like you." She complimented before walking to the back to presumably get our meals.
I went and sat at the table with Tom Hiddleston, Tom Holland, and Robert.
"Hey, Peter!" Little Tom called, waving his hands to gain my attention, though I was already across the table from him and could see him clearly. "Could you please make a spider on my pancakes with the syrup?"
"A spider?" I echoed.
"Yeah! Like for Spider-Man!" Tom chirped excitedly, his eyes lit like a Christmas tree.
"Oh! Can you do that for mine too!?" Anthony practically screamed from the booth behind me, causing me to wince slightly. Before long, everyone wanted syrup spider designs on their pancakes. I sighed in defeat and nodded, earning cheers from them. God this is embarrassing. It feels like they're asking for autographs or something.
"Big fans of Spider-Man, I take it?" The cashier lady commented as she slowly walked over to us with two trays in her hands, one in each hand. Both trays were balancing a tower of cups filled with orange juice. I quickly stood up and took one of the trays from her hands before she could hurt herself or something.
"Thanks." She smiled before placing the tray onto the table.
Time Skip
After everyone finished their breakfasts, I led them all to the city library.
"Okay, everyone. I have to get to work in like an hour, so make sure you're all as quiet as possible in here, got it? If you are too loud, theyll kick you out, so no fighting, no yelling, no loud noises." I instruct before we enter. I dont need the librarians calling me at the internship about them fighting in here.
"So basically act how we would if Medusa was here." Jeremy sighed.
"Basically. At least she's not actually here, so you're free to relax and read some books. Just make sure to stick with your groups. Dont wander around on your own."
They nod happily as they file into the library. Luckily it was huge, so I didnt have to worry about them taking up all the space. Making sure everyone was settled in at their own little areas to read, I felt myself relax slightly. Waving goodbye to them, I exited the library.
Please behave, guys.
Checking my watch, I could feel the blood draining from my face. Crap! Im totally late! Why am I always late for everything!?!
(Author: Hmmm. It's for Character development?
Peter: Please cut it out. Youre getting repetitive.
Author: Shut up and start running to work already.
Peter: *Sighs* Yes, maam.)
I sprinted as fast as I could to the tower, trying my best to not get run over by cars. After fifteen minutes, I made it. Luckily, the library wasnt too far to begin with. Sliding into the elevator, I frantically looked for the button panel. There wasnt one. How did I not notice this yesterday? Oh right. Distracted by Friday.
"Uh Friday?" I called out with uncertainty. Is she even going to answer me?
"No need to worry, Peter. I will take you to the Avengers now." Friday announced, answering my internal panics.
"Thank you, Friday!" I sighed a breath of relief.
When the doors opened, a blue blur circled around me, nearly knocking me over. I quickly regained my balance and looked around in confusion. What was that?
"PIETRO! Give me back my-!" Clint's voice screeched, causing me to wince and cover my ears from the volume.
Walking out of the elevator, I found the Avengers lounging around in the living room area.
"I'm back." I announced nervously.
"Oh, hey kid." Tony motioned his hand to me, telling me to sit down next to him.
Sitting down, I looked around nervously. Well, mostly nervous. I kept a trying my best to take Steve seriously after what I had saw last night, but I couldnt help smile at him. He was wearing his normal clothes now, but the very memory of what he looked like last night kept surfacing. In the end, I had to keep my eyes away from him or I'd end up laughing like a maniac.
"So, Peter. Can we ask you some questions?" Bruce asked, a smile on his face and a knowing look in his eyes. He knows Im avoiding looking at Steve. Now that I think of it. Theyre all doing it too. None of them are looking at the 'Man with a Plan'.
"Of course." I smiled, more relaxed than I previously was.
"How do your powers work?" He questioned.
"Powers? This boy has powers like us?" An accented voice said from behind me. Turning around I found an older looking boy with white hair and a blue shirt. Who's this?
"Pietro!!" Clint yelled, making me wince again. Why is he being so loud?
Clint tried tackling the Pietro guy, but he was gone in a blue blur, causing Clint to fall to the floor. I giggled a bit and turned to see Pietro on the other side of the couch, standing behind Bruce. He was grinning like the Cheshire Cat. Super Speed? AWESOME!!
"Didn't see that coming?" He teased Clint as he tried to stand, leaning heavily on the part of the couch I was sitting on.
"Oh, hey Peter." Clint finally took notice of my presence, ruffling my already messy hair. "Can you do me a little favor?"
"Uhh...depends on what it is?"
"Hey, Bird Brain. You better not be trying anything stupid." Tony warned.
"Do you think you could?" Clint mimicked my hand motions for when I shoot my web before pointing to the bow in Pietros hand. He wants me to get his bow back for him, doesnt he?
I sighed and nodded. Before Pietro could figure out what Clint had asked for, I shot a web at the bow and yanked on it, tugging the bow out of his hands and into mine. Pietro looked stunned while Clint had a triumphant smirk on his face as I handed him his bow.
"Amazing." Bruce said, the web in one of his hands as he put on his glasses with the other to inspect it. Tony took the other end in his hand, looking at it closely.
"It's so soft and smooth. Like silk." Natasha commented, stroking a bit of the web with the back of her hand.
"Is this artificial or does it actually come out of your arms?" Bruce questioned.
"It's artificial. I made the formula at home with these. I took off my web shooters from my wrist and handed one each to Bruce and Tony.
"Wait. Wait. You MADE these?" Tony asked in disbelief as he turned the shooters in his hands.
"Y-Yeah." I admitted, watching as Pietro was stealing a few of Thors pop tarts as he munched happily in distraction.
"Pietro, go get your sister." Natasha ordered, stopping the boy in his tracks.
"Have you been feasting on my sacred Pop-tarts, Maximoff-son?!" Thor boomed, as Pietro ran off laughing. My ears felt like they were going to die soon. So loud!
Within seconds, Pietro returned carrying a brown haired woman in a red jacket. She looked the same age as Pietro and had a sort of red aura around her, though I could tell I was only able to see it thanks to my enhanced sight. After she was placed on her feet, she immediately wacked Pietro on the back of the head.
"What was that for, Pietro?" She questioned, though I could tell she wasnt really mad.
"Look at this, Wanda!" He yelled, disappearing in the blink of my eye.
Before I could even comprehend where he went, my surroundings blurred for half a second. Suddenly, the girl was right in front of me and weird pressure was under my armpits.
I'm being held up like kid, arent I? I sighed as the others began laughing a bit. Tony, Clint, and Stephen had their phones out and were taking pictures with smirks on their faces. I glared at them.
Screw you.
