Chapter 10
3rd Person
"Shut it, Bird Brain! I'm just going to feed the kid, here." Tony growled, half-dragging Peter into the kitchen area.
Not even half a second later, the elevator opened, revealing Steve, Natasha, Strange, Bucky, and Bruce. They all came rushing into the kitchen, where Steve and Natasha tackled Tony to the ground. Peter wisely stepped out of Tony's grip in time to watch his new boss fall on his own. Watching Tony being dragged out of the kitchen, Peter couldn't help but let out a small giggle, finding amusement in all this as he followed behind them. However, he stopped laughing when he noticed everyone's gaze went to him.
"U-Uhm. Hi?" He said awkwardly, waving his hand in greeting. As much as he wanted to fanboy in his head about meeting the Avengers, their stares forced him into awkwardness. However, unknown to him, two of them were watching him much more intently than the others.
'This kid looks REALLY familiar. Where do I know him from?' Bucky thought as he leaned against the wall, staring at Peter, looking for any sign that could re-jog his memory.
'Why is Peter here? Wait. Isn't that an intern badge on his neck? When did he become an intern here?' Strange thought from where he stood next to the knocked out Tony, secretly happy that he's getting to see the messy haired boy again.
"Who are you?" Natasha questioned, starting to put a hand on one of her hidden knives. Clint quickly put a hand on her shoulder to calm her down, not wanting to see his new friend at the sharp end of one of her daggers.
"Guys, this is Peter. He's Tony's new intern." He introduced, a large grin on his face.
"P-Peter Parker. Nice to meet you all." Peter chirped, waving his hand again. As soon as Peter said his name, it clicked in Bucky's mind.
'It's the Parker boy from the Oscorp tour!! The one who was being picked on and had a spider in his backpack!' He finally remembered. He gave himself a mental pat on the back, happy that he was able to remember things better.
"Nice to meet you too, son. My name's Steve Rogers." Steve introduced himself, the others following his lead. However, when it came to Bruce's turn to introduce himself, Peter's Fanboy mode broke out.
"Y-You're Bruce Banner! I'm a big fan of your work! I've read all your books and it was all so interesting! Especially the study on Gamma Radiation with the photons and penetrating electromagnetic radiation!" Peter blabbered, talking a million miles a minute with a bright smile. Stephen had to hold back a laugh, but both he and Bucky couldn't stop the grins from appearing on their faces. Bruce and the others stood there stunned, except for the unconscious Tony of course.
"Y-You understood my work?" Bruce managed to say through his shocked state. Peter nodded with a bright smile.
"Peter's obviously going to understand it. He is MY intern after all." Tony boasted, suddenly standing up from where he was previously lying unconscious. Everyone rolled their eyes at his statement, except for Peter who blushed slightly from what he presumed to be a compliment.
"Just when I thought we could be friends, Pete. You join the science nerds. I'm hurt from the betrayal!" Clint yelled out, holding a hand to his chest dramatically. Natasha rolled her eyes at him while the others snickered. Peter, on the other hand, began to internally panic.
"I-I'm sorry!" He squeaked out, flustered and unsure what to do.
"Calm down, there, kiddo! I'm joking!" Clint smirked, ruffling Peter's already messy hair, causing him to flinch. Clint's smirk faltered for a part of a second, but quickly recovered. Everyone else frowned, having seen the flinch as well, but followed Clint's example and went back to smiling.
"Have you had lunch yet, Peter? We were all going to order some pizza if you'd like to join us." Natasha announced, smiling warmly at the boy in front of him. She wouldn't admit it, but she was already growing a soft spot for Peter. His awkwardness just seemed adorable and melted her heart a bit.
"We're not taking no for an answer, kid." Tony warned with authority. "You need to eat some food before you pass out or something."
This caused the other Avengers to pale at the thought of the small innocent boy in front of them to pass out from hunger.
"In that case: Sure! I'd love to." He answered, making Natasha smile again before she led him to the couch.
Peter's POV
After hours of talking and joking with the Avengers present in the common room, I caught a glimpse at my watch. I could feel the color draining from my face as I stared at it. Half an hour late!! SHIT!! I am so screwed!!
I jumped up from the couch and began sprinting toward the elevator.
"I'MLATE!!Sorry,MisterStark!I'vegottagopickupmysiblingsfromtheirschoolsbeforetheycallMedusa.I'llseeyoutomorrow!" I screamed out as fast as I could as I ran, leaving behind the stunned Avengers in their common room. Taking the elevator down to the Lab, I quickly pick up my backpack before zooming back into the elevator, pushing the button for the lobby.
I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I. Am. So. DEAD.
Sprinting off to the middle school, I surprised myself at how fast I had gotten there. How did I get her in under 10 minutes?!? That's awesome!! Wait. Not the time to get excited about powers, Peter.
"Sorry I'm late again, everyone! Let's go! Come on, quickly!" I told them hurriedly, leading them as quickly as I could to the elementary school. Unfortunately, we were too late. The same teacher from last time was standing beside my group of orphan siblings.
A repeat of last time happened all over again. She scolded us, left, then everyone began to cry. I sighed and helped comforting everyone to calm them down.
Don't worry, everyone. I won't let that damn Medusa hurt you. Any of you. Not as long as I'm alive and breathing.
Reaching the orphanage, I could hear her shuffling around inside. Dread filled every part of me as my spider senses flared up while we neared the front door. She's in an especially dangerous mood right now. She might not only go after me if i go in with them.
"Guys, I'm going to need you to go around the house and in through the back door again. I'll distract her while you go upstairs. You know where to hide." I ordered them, my voice low and serious. They nodded with fearful knowing and ran along the side of the house.
Taking a deep shaky breath, I opened the door, knowing she was waiting for me on the other side. Stepping through the doorway, she immediately backhanded me with enough force to make me stumble to the ground.
Here we go again.
Time Skip 4 hours
God. She's finally done!! I thought she'd never stop.
I trudged my way up the stairs, limping a bit on my left leg. Please don't tell me she broke something again. Entering the boy's bedroom, I found everyone lying on the ground, sleeping in groups. This would be adorable if it weren't for the reason they had to be together in their sleep: fear of Medusa.
I sighed, entering my closet room. After quickly changing into my suit, I checked to make sure the bedroom was locked, not wanting to take any chances with that wench. Good. It's locked. Jumping out the window, I began to swing around from building to building, ignoring the pain in my leg. After a few seconds of swinging, my spider sense went haywire. Time to get to work.
Tony's POV
I was having a great time talking and joking with everyone until I looked over to Peter. His face was pale as he stared at his watch. Is he okay? Before I could ask what was wrong, he suddenly sprung up to his feet and ran toward the elevator.
"I'MLATE!!Sorry,MisterStark!I'vegottagopickupmysiblingsfromtheirschoolsbeforetheycallMedusa.I'llseeyoutomorrow!" He hurriedly yelled as he slid into the elevator.
I sat there stunned with the others.
After a long moment of silence, I turned to them with a confused look.
"What did he say?"
They all shrugged, just as clueless as I was.
"Friday, can you repeat what Peter said in slow-mo?" I called up to the ceiling.
"Yes sir: 'I'm late!!! Sorry, Mister Stark! I've gotta go pick up my siblings from their schools before they call Medusa. I'll see you tomorrow!' Is what Peter said." She repeated his words, his voice much slower than before.
"Siblings, huh? Must be nice." I commented under my breathe, so I doubted anyone heard.
"Who's Medusa?" Natasha questioned, but received no answer further than a shrug from the rest of us. How am I supposed to know? I just met the kid today.
"Anyways, Tony, we need to talk." Stephen suddenly announced, starting to make his way out of the room. The others gave me pitying glances, staying in silence. Uh, how about we stay here? Where everyone else is at: as witnesses.
However much I wanted to say something, my mouth stayed shut for once. Following Strange, we soon made our way into his office.
"Soooo what do you want to talk about?" I asked, though I already had a feeling on what it was. I am sooo screwed over for getting drunk, aren't I? He turned around to face me, looking me straight in the eyes with a strange nervous look in his. Shouldn't I be the one who's nervous here?
"... When are we going to get a kid? We both agreed to it about two weeks ago, but we haven't acted on it or really talked more about it..." He began, his voice low and careful.
The adoption work?
"What are you talking about?" I raised an eyebrow, earning a hurt look from him. Shit! Clarify what you mean before he gets the wrong idea! "I've already finalized all our permission forms to adopt a kid. All we need to do is pick one out and sign our names on his guardian papers."
I smirked as Stephen's face relaxed at my explanation. A small smile made its way onto his lips as the information visibly sunk in.
"So when do we get to find our kid?" He had hope in his voice, obviously wanting to do it as soon as possible.
"We can go to the city orphanage this Sunday if you want. I've been holding it off because Eyepatch would be a total pain if we didn't at least try to catch the Spiderling first."
He nodded in understanding, though he lightly glared at me for calling Fury 'Eyepatch' again. I know you find it funny on the inside, so you don't need to keep scolding me, you know.
"Sunday it is." He smiled brightly, pulling me into a tight hug. I hugged him back, excitement welling up inside me. I'm finally getting a kid in two days!
Without warning, an idea pops into my head. What the hell? Why didn't I think of this sooner?!
"I've got it!!!" I scream out, pulling away from a startled Stephen. I smiled apologetically before dragging him back to the common room, where, luckily, the team was still lounging around in.
"Hey! Why don't we try trapping the Spider instead of just going up to him: seeing as we can't even get close to him." I explained, earning everyone's attention.
"What kind of trap are you thinking of, Stark?" Natasha sat up, a gleam in her eye. Scary.
"All we know about him is that he goes around in a hoodie into whatever the hell kind of dangers to help people, right?" I earned a few nods so I know they're following along before I continue. "What if we made our own dangerous situation for the kid to fly into? Then we just ambush him and drag his ass to the Tower for questioning."
Steve, Bucky and Stephen had unsure looks, but nodded in agreement with the others.
"Let's do it." Steve had a determined look in his eyes, as always. Always such a goodie- goodie.
"Okay, then. Here's the plan." I began.
