Happy Smiles Orphanage (2/2)
In which Peter just wants to have the kids at HSO to get a good home. He's one of the kids getting a home.
Peter got home quickly. He ran up the bad stairs and into the room before the sun came up.
He didn't get any sleep that day but it was fine, cause it was the weekend. Peter wouldn't be able to sleep in but at least he wouldn't fall asleep in class.
After a few minutes the clock struck 4 am and Peter could hear noises downstairs. He slowly left the room and went down.
"Hello?" he called out despite knowing who it was. "Ms. Breckinridge, do you need any help?"
"Boy, I don't need any help! You know that men come at strange times! People want the kids!"
Peter didn't understand what she was talking about. Did someone come? Was it her boy toy coming in late at night?
Peter started at her, "what?"
"Are you stupid?!" she screamed at Peter. He blinked at her slowly. "Someone called in and they're coming at seven! We need to make this place spotless for them."
Peter was confused, "who called in early?"
Usually people just pop in and adopt a child. Sometimes they come back to give the child back but they don't call in early to do it all.
"Tony Stark wants to adopt a kid from here. That's right, he wants one of you little shits."
Peter smiled inwardly. Tony was going to pick Darla and she was going to get out of this hellhole, Peter just knew it.
Peter helped Ms. Breckinridge get the house ready. He mostly stayed in rooms away from her, not wanting the chance to be hurt.
After they were done with all the rooms, it was nearly seven. The lady walked away mumbling, "call me when he gets here."
Peter nodded to her and went to wake up the other kids. The others quickly got ready, not really sure what was going on.
Peter, obviously excited, exclaimed, "Tony Stark is coming over today to adopt one of you guys!"
"Hopefully he takes you too, Peter. You deserve a break," one of the boys said, rubbing his eyes. He yawned a bit, not being one of the early risers.
A little girl ran up to Peter, pouting. "I don't want him to take away, Peter. Peter belongs with me!"
Peter laughed down to her, "now, now, Allie. I'll come to visit."
Peter said that but he knew that he wouldn't be leaving this place just yet. He hoped Darla would be going first.
Then, he'd get Carmelo out, then Allie. After Allie comes Becca, then Tyler and Toby. Peter had a whole plan for them all.
"Peter!" he heard Ms. Breckinridge call out. "He's here!"
Peter didn't question how she knew. He knows she can see the front of the building from her room.
She walks out quickly. Peter can see that she put makeup on and did her hair in what little time she had.
Peter ushered the kids outside to play. There was more room out there than in the actual house so, if anything, that's where all the kids should gather.
Peter could hear the front door open before he closed the door to outside. He was nervous.
Peter sent the kids off to play wherever they do wanted to. Peter didn't join them though. Instead, he hid behind a bush and watched.
Tony Stark and Pepper Potts we're both brought outside with the kids. They looked at them, talked to a few of them.
Peter watched as they talked with Darla and then with Ms. Breckinridge. Peter was so focused on them and trying to listen to what they said that he didn't notice the kid sneak up next to him.
"Hey, Peter," the kid said. Peter screamed and fell out of the bush. The kid jumped up, victorious. "I scared Peter! Ha, ha! I am superior!"
Peter started at him and then turned to face Tony and Pepper when he saw them right in front of him.
Peter was about to stay there, not wanting to face the two people but then he heard Ms. Breckinridge walking over.
Peter frantically stood up and pulled the boy who scared him behind him, protecting him from the danger.
Tony mentally noted the kids odd behavior and skittishness. Ms. Breckinridge did seem really mean.
"Hello, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts," Peter said, his voice shaky. The boy behind him ran away as Ms. Breckinridge approached.
"Hello to you as well, Peter," Ms. Breckinridge's witchy voice cut through. "You don't want this one, Tony. He's broken."
Peter was hurt by her words but pretended not to be by smiling. Apparently, it didn't work out that well because Tony said, "I think I know who I'm adopting."
"Great! What lovely little kid will be going home with you?"
"Peter will."
As the group walked inside to sign papers and get inspections done, Peter was rambling to Tony.
"I can't leave, Mr. Stark. I need to make sure these kids get put somewhere better than here! They need to be put into a good home! They deserve a loving family."
"Peter," Tony starts talking and stops walking. "I will send these kids somewhere better. I want to adopt you, Peter. Not the other kids. They'll get adopted by someone else."
"O-okay," Peter finishes. He was silent for a bit before starting again, "wait, but what if-."
"Peter, you're going home with us and they're getting sent somewhere better. Trust me and Pepper, those kids will get a good home."
Peter didn't respond, only nodded. He didn't really know what to say. How would you respond to someone in that situation.
The kids would be going into good homes, Peter reminded himself. Tony knew a lot of people, they could get the kids into good homes.
Peter decided to trust him in this one. After all, this man would be his dad. Peter's plan might've died out a bit but the kids would still be getting a good home.
Everyone at Happy Smiles Orphanage would.
