chapter 9

Natasha's pov

Stark and I watched the little red dot that indicated Peter. He was still at the orphanidge.

"This is wrong," Tony suddenly announced, "he has enough to worry about, he doesn't need us stalking him!"

I just sighed and looked at him, "by all means Stark, if you want out, goodbye, but I'm staying right here and figuring this kid out with or without you"

Stark didn't leave, instead he leaned in closer to the camera, "look! He's going somewhere"

And indeed he was, the tracker that I had put into the backpack I bought him was moving from the orphanage and down the road. When He turned into the alley way he had been spotted entering many times before, he stopped. Suddenly he left the alley and returned to the main road. Continuing as if nothing happened.

He got to the bus stop and seemed to board a bus, "what is he doing?" Tony asked

"I don't know, but based on his commuting patterns, it's unusual," I replied.

"Maybe he just didn't feel like taking his ways through the alleys?" He guessed

"I mean, your guess is as good as mine, but I just have a feeling that isn't it"

"Then what do you propose was his reason for taking a quick detour into an alley?" Stark asked with a raised eyebrow

I took a long thoughtful moment, "I don't know, but I'm going to figure it out" what are you hiding Mr. Parker?

Peter's POV

After letting Mj out, I had to get up to make everyone breakfast. Mrs. Virli was no help, she sat on the couch and screamed at us all to get out of her house. After grabbing a couple boxes of pop-tarts. I rushed everyone out the door. We all ate on the lawn before we dispersed.

A couple children asked me how I was doing after last night, so I just gave vague answers.

Not really wanting to deal with people today, I decided I would take the alleys and just run to school. Because of my climbing abilities, I could get over fences and walls that normally created dead ends.

I only got a few meters into the Alley when my spider sense went off. It didn't seem to be life threatening and it seemed distant. It felt like someone was stalking me, but from really far away. Realizing a stalker would see me doing things no human should be able to do, I decided it would be best if I just took the bus for today.

I walked to the bus stop as normally as possible. my senses had quieted down, but still told me I was being watched.

Climbing onto the bus, I took the window seat and pulled my new bag of my back. My senses were telling me that something was up with it.

I searched through it but found nothing, just my books and supplies

I zipped the bag and tried to figure out what was wrong with it. I don't know why I was drawn to the water bottle holder, it was probably my senses, but I reached into the holder and felt around. At first I didn't feel anything, but as soon as my fingers ran over the seam I felt a small square piece of metal. I pulled the device out.

The device itself was made of a dull metal. It was about an inch long and 1/2 an inch wide. A little blinking red light identified it as an electronic.

This had to be What was seing my senses off, but I had no clue exactly what it was doing. I decided I would figure it out during my lunch period.

The bus got to its stop later than I would have liked. I unzipped the fake bottom a tiny bit and slipped the tracker inside I then picked up my book bag and headed off the bus, throwing a "thank you" to the bus driver, he just nodded in response.

As always, I found Mj and Ned in the hallways. "DUUUUDE, I'm so sorry" Ned hurriedly appologized, "I fell asleep last night and I didn't wake up to my phone going off. Are you ok!"

"Yeah man," I joked lightly, "I'm fine." not completely true, but I just found some odd device in my bag, so I had a more present problem to deal with.

"Are you sure?" He asked hesitantly.

"Yes, I'm sure," I reassured him. He still looked guilty, "I'm ok, a little shaken, but Mj talked me through it, I'll be fine"

He finally seems to relax, "ok, but what happened?"

"Long story that I would rather not retell, but I'll let Mj tell you." I gestured to her as she was standing right behind Ned, "Just not here, too many people. Meet me in the empty computer lab at lunch and we can talk all about it."

"Why the computer lab?" Mj questions.

"I found something on my way to school this morning that you guys might want to see" I smiled knowingly at them.

---- /\(-.-)/\ (turnip the time skip)----

After enduring gym class, English, Math and History, it was finally time for lunch.

I had bought a chocolate bar from the vending machine using a dollar I found on the ground in a alley the other day, but couldn't afford more than that. This'll do I told myself.

I walked into the empty room and chose a desk in a far corner. Technically students aren't supposed to be in here without a teacher, but Mj, Ned, and I do it a lot and have never gotten caught.

The other two soon walked into the room, Mj first with a book tucked under her arm, Ned next with his book bag slung over his shoulder.

"Is that all you had?" He asked, discarding his smile and pointing at the empty candy wrapper.

"Yeah," I said simply.

Ned gaped, a look of understanding passed over his face, "I'll be right back." His smile came right back to his face. Without waiting for an answer, he turned on his heel and marched out of the room.

"Wait! Ned!... And he's gone" I say, the last part meant for myself, but Mj scoffed a bit.

I started to unpack my needed supplies. I grabbed my school issued laptop and opened it on the desk, I then grabbed a small cable from the drawers at the edges of the room. I opened my bag once again and started shuffling my books around so I could get to the zipper at the bottom. Mj, who had been quiet this whole time, spoke up, "so, how you feeling?"

"Fine" I answered, preoccupied searching under the fake bottom for the small device. I didn't want to open the flap all the way and have my suit pop out, so instead I wiggled my hand in and felt around.

"What are you looking for?" She asked, sensing my reluctancy to talk about last night.

"Something I found this morning."

"And that would be..." She prompted.

"Aha" I exclaimed as my fingers finally found the small metal box. I pulled it out and showed it to her, "this!"

She wasn't looked confused, "ok, but what is it? Where did you find it? Was it from-"

"Shhhhh" I shushed her, "I don't know what it is, which is why we have to be careful, it could have an audio recorder." Her eyes went wide for a moment, "I found it in this new book bag," I held up the book bag I had chosen for her to see "I don't know how long it was there or who put it there, but I have my guesses. Yesterday when I was at the market, this lady bumped into me which broke my old bag. she felt bad, so she bought me a new one."

"And you think she put it in the bag?"

"It was either her or the guy behind the counter but considering she is the one who broke the other bag in the first place, I get the feeling it was her."

I held the device at eye level to look for a entry point to the inner workings of it. That's when the door opened and Ned walked back in.

"Hey! What did I miss?" He asked.

"Peter found a weird device in this new bag he was given by a random lady at the market" Mj summarized

"What!? We'll what does it do?"

"We aren't sure. That's why we are here, but for now we don't know if it's an audio recorder, video recorder, tracker, etc. It could be anything!" I told him, still searching for an entrance point

"That.. Is.. SO cool" Ned fanboyed. I laughed a bit, "oh yeah, and dude..." He plopped a burger down in front of me, "eat"

I looked up at him, "really?" I deadpanned.

"Yeah bro, your my best friend, I'm not about to let you starve yourself on chocolate bars"

"Fine, thanks," I mumbled and took a bite of the burger, smiling just a bit.

Looking back over the Device after finishing the burger, I finally found the seam. "Hey, hand me a screw driver?" I asked, while keeping my eye on the small almost invisible seam.

Ned handed me the smallest screwdriver in the lab. I first twisted out the single screw. I placed it down gently as to no lose it. I jammed the screw driver into the seam until I saw the top moving apart a bit. I then used my hands to pull it the rest of the way apart. I set the top down and looked into the small devices, there was a couple of wires and a black box. As expected, there was a small port on the black box, probably for coding the device, but for me it was going to be used to hack it.

After Plugging the cable into my computer and then inserting the smaller end into the device, I opened up the coding program on the computer. I went to workon the code.

Admitedly, it was very well constructed, but between me and Ned plus a few helpful pointers from Mj, we eventually figured it out.

"So according to this line of code right here, in accordance with those whole chunk" I pointed to all the coding before the designated line, "the device is not an audio or video recorder. The only thing it seems to be doing is throw out a targeted signal."

"So, it's a tracker?" Mj asked

"It seems so..." I trailed off, clicking a few buttons, trying to track the signal.

"Can we figure out where this person is tracking us from?" Ned proposed.

A error message appeared on the screen, "apparently not. They must be using some kind of built in VPN or something."

Mj pulled out her notebook. She opened it and turned to a clean page, "ok, lets get this all straight right now," she started to sketch a picture of the metalic device, "so far, what do we know about it?"

"It's a tracker" Ned stated obviously.

"It isn't any kind of recorder. And it's well coded" I supplies.

Mj jotted down some quick bullet points beside the sketch, "what else?"

"It was hidden in a book bag that some random lady bought for me at the market" I added. Mj added three more points.

"But the man at the counter is a possible suspect as well" Ned reminded. Mj added to her one bullet point.

"Anything else?" She asked

"Ummm, I think that's about it. It's untraceable so there isn't much more we can uncover."

Mj scribbled down one more thing and then tore out the piece of paper. "How is that going to help us?" I asked her

"Well, now we have some criteria," both Ned and I looked at her with a confused expression, "we can narrow down who it could be by Checking the list. For instance, we now know we are looking for a coder who knows how to cover their tracks. We also know that they don't know any specifics about the past day that you have had the backpack, only locations. And we can start to plan on how to stop them."

"Well couldn't we just destroy it?" I asked

"We could" Mj stated simply, "but then they would realize we found the tracker and that we knew what it was. Any normal kids, of they found a weird device in their bag, would either call the cops or, with how small this thing is, toss it to the side thinking it was a piece of scrap metal. Point is, if the signal cuts off, whoever is tracking you will just find another easy to find you. We have to figure out how to get to get rid of it without them knowing you found it in the first place."

I started to unplug the device from the computer and put the device back together, "how exactly do we plan to do that?"

Ned got a thoughtful look on his face, "what if we just don't get rid of it at all?"

"What?" I laughed a bit, "I can't leave it in my bag, I web it to the wall when I go spider manning."

"Then. You won't take it Spidermanning." Ned smiled "whoever it it's that is stalking you will just give up if they see that you don't do anything interesting. Just leave the device in your room when you go out and you don't have to worry about them being lead to your bag webbed to a wall."

Feeling stupid for not thinking of something so simple, I smiled, it soon faltered though when I realized, "but what about when I go out during the day, like right after school or something?"

Ned thought for a second, "I'll take it!"

"What!? No, thanks but I am not going to transfer my creepy stalkers on to you"

"Come on man!" He complained, "nothing could go wrong, is not like I'm gonna go out robbing a bank somehow incriminating you. No, all they will see is 'you' walking to my house. Then when you are done doing your thing, you can just drop by my house and pick up the tracker"

I really didn't want him to do this, but he made a good point, "... Fine" I relented, "but if you ever feel like you are in danger cause someone is following you, call me right away"

"Deal" he said smiling.

"Well, we should probably start heading to our next classes, see ya losers later" Mj waved at us as she walked out the door.

Ned and I parted ways once in the hallways, him going to Home EC and me to AP Physics.

Steve's pov

Our plan had failed. Sort of.

We did not get to talk to Spiderman the night before. He was no where to be seen. We had looked everywhere and there wasn't any sightings of the the red and blue clad hero last night.

We hoped tonight we would have better luck.

As I was patrolling closer to queens, I finally got a glimpse of him. He swung by at top speeds and flew through the air. I touched a finger to my ear where my earpiece was, "I found him. Tony, could you come get me?"

"Sure thing capsicle" Tony's voices came through the speaker.

The sound of his repulsers soon were audible through the crowd. I saw the red and gold suit fly over the crowd only to circle back around, dropping right next to me, "ready"?

He didn't wait for an answer and me and him shot through the air. We quickly caught up to the hero, but he obviously saw us coming. as soon as we got close he began getting defensive. Instead of letting go of his web, he kept a hold of it. At the speed he was going, his body did a full ark and went right over us. He finally let go when he was parallel to the ground again, letting another web fly, effectively turning a full 180 to go the opposite way of us.

Being a huge metal body going 50mph Tony took a moment longer to turn around. Spiderman was already far gone.

Tony flew up above new york, quickly finding the man. He swooped down and began following him again. "A little warning next time!" I yelled after the dive.

"Do you want to catch up to him?" Tony asked.

I just grumbled, holding on for dear life.

This time, Spiderman turned down an alley. Tony followed and almost slammed into a brick wall, narrowly dodging it.

This chase went on for about ten minutes. Finally Spiderman stopped on top of a building.

"Uuhhhhhhg" he groaned, "can you guys just leave me be?"

"Spider-Man, I'm sure you know why we're here" I stated.

"Yes, and your not bringing me into shield, end of story."

I started the fight by throwing my shield at the man. He caught it like it was nothing, "yo, watch where you throw that thing" he quipped.

"Your hilarious," my voice was laced with sarcasm, I was gonna stick to the plan and get him talking, "where ever did you get your talent!" I quipped back.

"Well capsicle, when your me, you learn to have a light outlook on fighting." He joined as he charged.

After a moment of fighting, he talked after I caught him with a right hook, "dam you hit hard"

"I could say the same about you, but what I want to know is how?"

He dodged my kick, "yeah super strength is really helpful."

"Also dangerous, where did you get your powers?"

"Why would I tell you that?" He questioned. There was an awkward pause while he side stepped my shield.

From his ear piece I heard, "would you like me to contact 'the guy in the chair'"

Spiderman responded with "No Karen that won't be necessary."

"Whose Karen?" I asked.

"Why are you so questiony today? Just fight me like all your friends"

"Just thought we could have a little chat while we fight" I replied light heartedly.

Spider man's earpiece continued to suggest to him calling this "guy in the chair" but he declined again

From my earpiece Tony cut in, "I just got an idea, keep him here a minute so I can try something" I realized Tony had flown off the building and was now standing on the roof of the building across from us

Finally my shield got a hit directly to his chest. Spiderman was knocked to his butt. I went over as he stood up and threw a punch that hit its mark. Spiderman was once again on the ground. In a fluid motion, he raised his arm and a web hit me making me stumble back. We kept going back and forth, Tony was mumbling to Friday the whole time

"That's wierd...." tony trailed off.

"What's weird tony?" I asked, exhausted.

"The thing that he is using to communicate and the signal it is putting out. You see, every electronic sends out a type of wave. But to talk to someone else through a device, you need to connect to a radio wave. Even we are on a radio wave, its through my private satellite though so no one can hack into it. Somehow though, he has the energy signature, but not a wave to transmit through."

"Tony English please" I added, ducking a swing from spiderman.

"It means I shouldn't be able to talk to anyone." Spiderman said out of the blue.

"Wha- ho-"

"How can I hear him? Super hearing. And I must say," he continued in a fake pouty voice "I find it rude that you guys would call Karen not real. She has feelings too." He shot a web that I dodged

"But spiderman, I do not have feelings" the unknown inhuman voice deemed "karen" responds.

I gave a chuckle, "your friend seems to think the opposite" with a look from spiderman, I added "you're not the only one with superhearing." If he didn't have a mask on I'm sure he would have rolled his eyes.

I took my chance to throw my shield, he caught it out of the air, only stumbling a bit, "woah, this thing does not obey the laws of physics"

I decided to try and get a kick to his stomach so that he would keel over and I could knock him down, but he side stepped and used my momentum to throw me to the ground. I was in a web cocoon before I could even get up.

"Now to deal with stark" he mumbled as he turned.

Tony landed right in front of him, he shot a blast at him but spiderman did a flip over the beam and tony. Spiderman kicked Tony's knees out from under him and Tony fell.a web hit his face plate and then spiderman was off. Once Tony got the web off his face. Spiderman was gone. He flew up and searched around for him leaving me on the ground for 30 minutes. When he came back, he grumbled, "I lost him. He just dissapeared."

Tony cut the webs that were holding me there and he flew us back to the tower. I was dreading explaining what happened to the team. He had gotten away Again and any information we found lead to more questions then answers. That's why when we touched down and walked inside. What I saw only soured my mood more. Fury was here

DONE! I am sooo sorry that this took months to get out. I've just been so busy all summer and have been trying to get somewhat of a ok sleep schedule, I've also joined my school's color guard and they basically make you sign away your soul to them. Anyway, I'm sorry, it shouldn't have taken me this long but... idk :/

It's been really long so I've got PLENTY of quotes to go through for the quote of the "week", but I definitely love this one.

My sister who recently started college in Florida (we're live in northern U.S): we found a lizard in our room today! When we picked it up to take it outside, it disconnected its tail.

Me (younger than her btw): yeah... they do that

Her:... oh.... but like, the tail was still moving!

Me: mhhhm they do that.

Her:... how tf do you know this?

Me: what are you, the cops?

This chapter is not fully edited btw, but I did my best, so just comment any mistakes and I will go back and fix them eventually (probably when I finish the book and hard edit EVERYTHING)

/\(>_<)/\
Spider says sorry for taking so long to update!!!
