From foe to friend
Flash x Peter (not a romantic relationship, just friends)
---
Peter rushed through the school grounds to first period. He was late as usual due to a particularly late patrol last night. He got to class just as the bell rang.
He awkwardly shuffled to his seat at the front of the class when a voice called out behind him. "Hey Penis Parker." Peter rolled his eyes at the remark and sat down. The sound of crinkling paper and rushed writing filled the otherwise silent room as the supply teacher put up a power point full of work.
About five minutes towards the end of the lesson, the supply teacher stood up abruptly and addressed the class.
"So your usual teacher has set you all an assignment which you are to complete in pairs." Peter shoots a glance to Ned across the room. A hushed excitement drifts over the students. Their hopes were dashed by the next sentence. "Your teacher has assigned you pairs. It is due in two days."
Everyone including the teen vigilante let out a frustrated sigh. The supply clicked a button and the slide changed to reveal pairs.
Ned and MJ.
Betty and Liz.
Peter and....
"What the shit! I am not working with Penis Parker." Flash cried out practically flipping his desk. Peter simply banged his head on the table trying to wake up from this obvious nightmare.
"No changing pairs. You are dismissed."
Peter scrambled to leave the class as quickly as possible, but was promptly stopped in his track by his bully.
"Meet me here after school. Don't be late." Peter didn't question him, he knew better than to actually engage in conversation with the boy. Peter simply nodded and rushed to his next lesson.
At lunch Peter shot a text to Tony saying he would be home by around seven. There was no going back. His fate had been sealed.
---
Flash walked ahead of Peter. They had shared a very tense car journey to Flash's mansion and were now walking up his huge drive way to the dark wooden double doors. If Flash wasn't such a dick, Peter would be very impressed by this house, despite living in Stark towers with his superhero adoptive family. It was quite a beautiful property.
But it was spoilt by the the presence of the smug looking boy in front of him.
The boys headed up to Flash's room, neither uttering a sound under Flash's demand not to bother his father. Peter found it a very strange request but obeyed none the less. Once in the bedroom, Flash shut the door and flicked on the lights.
The room was full of football posters and various trophies for sporting events, as well as the odd taking part trophey for decathalon. Peter forced himself not to roll his eyes at Flash's endless awards on display.
"I am thinking we split the work half and half. You do the study on Thor and I will do the study on Captain America then we will compare and add anything extra tomorrow." Peter supplied timidly, resting his backpack on a chair. Flash nodded, without a trace of malice on his face. Instead there was...fear?
'Why does he look so afriad?' Peter wondered whilst he pulled the work out of his bag and began writing.
After a while of pretty comfortable silence a sharp knock sounded at the door. Flash's eyes darted from me to the door before saying a rather shaky "Come in."
The door burst open making the two boys jump. A seething man stormed in and grabbed Flash by the collar.
"What have I told you about guests? Noone enters this house without me knowing." Peter was completely shocked at the display happening in front of him. Flash looked close to tears.
"Father i'm sorry. We needed to do a project-"
"Enough with your excuses boy." The man spat, slapping Flash across the face. That's all it took for Peter to lunge forward and yank the mans hand back.
He was so startled he dropped Flash and stumbled back into Peter's grip.
"Don't touch him." Peter growled. He didn't know why he felt so compelled to help Flash, after all the crap he had endured. But Peter's overwhelming need to help those in need rose above his hatred for the boy. No one deserves to be beaten, bully or not.
"I knew it. My son is a faggot."
The man shoved Peter of him and swung at Flash, hitting him in the stomach. He kept going until Flash was curled in a ball on the floor crying in pain. Peter tried to intervene many times, but ended up with a fist to his stomach or chest as a result.
"Get out of my house you disgusting excuse of a boy."
Flash didn't need to be told twice. He bolted from the room, Peter close behind. Although Peter didn't leave before giving the man a sharp kick to the shin and grabbing his stuff.
"Flash! Flash wait!" Peter called, now at the front door which was wide open. Blinding headlights causing his enhanced eyes to shut, forcing him to come to a stop. The rev of an engine told Peter that Flash was leaving the drive way.
"Flash!" Peter called, trying his best to run to the car with the dots swirling in his vision. He hit something cold and metallic. Hoping it was the right car he yanked on the passenger door and climbed in. The sobs from the drivers seat proved it was indeed the correct car.
"I'm sorry." Peter whispered to the crying boy.
"Why are you sorry? You stood up to him for me. I should be thanking you."
"I got you kicked out. He called you a-" Peter cut of, not wanting to say the derogatory term that haunts him. Flash looked at his hands in shame.
"Its not the first time, and he isn't exactly wrong either." Flash whispered, barely audible over the engine. Peter stared him for a moment before spilling his mind.
"Flash that word doesn't define you. I assume by the fear in your eyes from the moment you stepped into that house that your father does this often. You shouldn't have to go through this. You don't deserve it. No one does. That word is nothing more than an insult made to make you feel ashamed of who you are. There is nothing wrong with being gay, I should know I am gay myself. People who think its wrong can fuck off."
Flash gazed at Peter with an unreadable expression on his face. His sobs had slowed to sniffles, red cheeks laced with tear stains. After a moment, Flash broke out into a small, grateful smile.
"Thanks Peter. Go I feel like such a dick. I put you through so much. I know how much it hurts to be bullied, I should never have vented on you. I know there is no excuse but-"
"Flash it's okay. I forgive you."
Both of them sat in shocked silence at Peter's statement, neither expecting for him to say that.
After a couple of minutes of silence, Flash turned the keys in the ignition to restart the car. "Where to?" He stated casually.
"My house. Stark towers." Flash raised his eyebrow, clearly fighting back a snarky comment. Despite his distrust, he pulled out of the driveway and headed to Stark towers.
Both of them had pounding headaches and looked like utter crap. They both sported large purple welts that will only deepen in the coming days, or in Peter's case hours due to his advanced healing. Overall, they were quite a sight to see when they entered the lobby. Peter scanned his badge then lead Flash to the private elevator. Flash had remained silent since they had left, but this silence was different. More of an excited silence.
"Evening Sir, would you like me to inform Mr Stark of your arrival. By my knowledge you are early." Friday said once the elevator doors had shut.
"Yes please, Friday. Can you also get Bruce, Dad and Pops to come down to the med bay." Friday agreed. Soon the doors opened to the med bay where the three heroes where already waiting, clearly anxious as to why they were there.
As soon as Tony spotted a bruised Peter he stormed to Flash, who cowered in the corner of the elevator.
"What did you do to my son?" Tony roared, making Flash even more terrified.
"This wasn't him Dad. Flash's father did this, Flash got most of it though. You should probably check his for broken bones." Tony's face instantly went from furious to guilty as he guided Flash to the nearest medical bed.
Peter watched from the sidelines as Bruce worked his magic. Luckily there were no major breaks, just a fracture in his arm and a broken nose. His vitals were normal, except from a raised heart rate due to the stress. Bruce told him he needed to rest for a couple of days as he completed the sling for Flash's arm. Flash muttered a thank you as the scientist walked away.
"Mr Thompson why did your father attack you?" Steve said in his Captain America voice.
Flash shot a worried glance at Peter, to which Peter nodded encouragilngly. "He, um, he doesn't like it when I bring people home. Peter and I were doing a project when he stormed in and started..." He trailed of a gestured to his purple face. "This isn't the first time. He has been doing this to me for years." He whispered the last part, trying to fight back the tears.
Peter gasped at this new information. He knew it was happening frequently but not to that extent. Steve and Tony looked equally shocked. However the bullying situation made sense, the boy was angry and needed to vent that anger. It just so happened that Peter was always the receiving end of it. Obviously that doesn't justify his actions, but it will help to find a way to fix the problem.
"I am going to make a couple of calls. But trust me kid, I am not letting you go back to that house. I know how awful an abusive parent can be,I am not going to make you go through what I have." Tony said, whilst tapping away at his phone. He left closely followed by a sombre looking Steve.
"That was a good thing you did Parker. Thank you." Flash said with some of his normal cocky confidence, but it didn't take away from the sincerity of the action. Peter smiled in response. He proceeded to dim the lights and pull a screen out of the ceiling, all while Flash looked on in amazement.
"Film? You are gonna be stuck in here a while."
"Sure. How about Back to the future."
"Ok! Friday play Back to the future!"
"Right away sir." Came the AI's response.
"I can't believe you live here. I am sorry for calling you a liar."
"Well get used to it. You might be staying here a while." Peter said with a cheeky grin, turning up the TV. The two settled down, for the first time not hating the others presence. They still felt a little awkward around each other, but at least they weren't at each other's throats.
Baby steps.
