Awareness
Part two
---
Peter has been working for Tony for a couple of months and things were going well. That is until Peter started to be late to work. At first it was only a five or ten minutes. But soon he was an hour late.
Tony knew something was going on. Peter would never intentionally miss the internship. So Tony went to Wade.
"Mr Stark?" Wade said into his phone, trying to be quiet as to not wake up the other kids that share his room.
"Hi Wade. I need your help. I need you to find out what's going on with Peter."
Wade goes silent and his eyes drift to the sleeping boy. The first night in a long while Peter has actually been in his own bed.
"I am afraid there is a lot going on Mr Stark. I think it's best if he tells you, I don't think it's my place to say. I will try and sneak him out tomorrow."
'Sneak? Why would he need to sneak out? It's Saturday tomorrow.' Tony thought to himself.
"Ok Wade. See you tomorrow I guess." Wade hung up quickly, feeling slightly sick. He knew exactly why Peter was late to his internship. Two words: Skip Wescott.
That bastard has been torturing his Peter and there was nothing he could do. Despite being Deadpool, Wade was absolutely terrified of the man who is supposed to protect them. It takes a lot to make Wade scared.
He placed his phone on the shelf above his bed and tried to allow sleep to overcome him. But it never came. Beeping of alarms soon filled the room and the kids stirred. Peter shot up, eyes darting around the room. Wade was by his side in an instant, whispering comforting words to the boy who had grown extremely protective over.
"It's okay Peter. Just a nightmare that's all." Wade cooed, squeezing the boy's hand. Peter gave him a shaky smile, but his eyes were full of fear.
The kids rushed to get dressed as to make sure they would be ready before Skip woke up. It was a Saturday so Skip usually slept in, but that wasn't always the case. This uncertainty left a constant tense atmosphere in the orphanage, something they should never have to deal with.
Being the oldest, Wade made everyone breakfast. Nineteen plates of egg and bacon, none of which were his. He never ate, wanting the others to get a decent meal before Skip took over. Peter always noticed, but never quite understood why Wade wasn't eating. To him Wade was just never hungry. That couldn't be further from the truth.
"Right, I want you all to get your chores done. Peter and I are going out. If Skip asks we have gone to get groceries. We should be back soon." Peter cocked his head at this statement. He went to get groceries with Amy yesterday. Why was Wade lying to everyone? Was there something wrong?
When the kids cleared out Peter tugged on wade's shirt, successfully grabbing his attention.
"Were are we going?"
"Shopping." Peter raised his eyebrow knowingly and Wade sighed. "I can't get anything past you can I? Mr Stark wants to see you, so I told him I would sneak you out. So come on." Without waiting for Peter's reply, Wade tugged him to the front door and handed Peter his converse.
After ten minutes of fast walking they ended up outside the tower. For some reason the sight of the tower made Peter's stomach knot with anxiety. They entered and went straight through security, no longer needing a badge as Tony trusted them fully. Friday greeted them in a very human tone that she saves for her favourites.
"Hello Peter, Wade. Boss is waiting for you in the common room. It appears Cap, Natasha, Clint and Bruce are there as well."
Peter turned pale, gears in his head working in overdrive. Why are the Avengers waiting for him> What has he done wrong?"
"Wade why is everyone here."
"You need to tell someone Peter. They can help us all." Wade whispered, a huge wave of guilt hitting him at Peter's betrayed expression. Peter couldn't reply as the elevator stopped and slid open, revealing the large common room.
All eyes were focused on the teens, making Peter want to burst into tears. This is not how he expected today to turn out.
"Hi kids. Pete I need to talk to you." Tony said with a warm smile.
Peter shook his head violently and backed into the elevator, receiving worried looks from the adults.
"Peter whats wrong?" Wade questioned, reaching out to hold Peter's hand. But he moved to fast for Peter, causing him to smash into the metal rail and fall to the floor. He brought his knees up to his chest, trying to block out all the sounds beating against his head. The slightest touch brought back reeling images he desperately wants to forget.
"Stop stop stop." Peter mumbled over and over again, shaking profusely.
Tony was in shock. Every time he tried to comfort the kid or help him up he would flinch away or sob louder. Wade on the other hand leaped into action. He has seen enough of these attacks to know exactly what to do.
"We need to move him into a dark room. He is having a sensory overload, everything is going to be bugging him. If you have any noise cancelling headphones they will help him calm down. No one touch him either. That will just make it worse."
He directed this to the avengers, but kept his eyes trained to Peter's shaking form. He crouched down to Peter's level and carefully lifted his hand to his chest, allowing Peter to copy his breathing pattern. The avengers set to work converting the smaller office into a lounge-type area. Tony had Friday dim the lights and block out the glass to seal Peter off.
"You think you can stand up?" Wade whispered, knowing that if he spoke any louder it would be like someone screaming in his face. Peter stopped shaking as violently, an indication Wade has learnt means he can be touched without freaking out. Wade scooped up Peter and quickly took him into the converted lounge area.
There were pillows and blankets everywhere, which Peter buried himself in instantly. A small smile crept onto the boys face, but his eyes told a different story.
"We are going to have to give him a while. These attacks take a toll on him." 'and me' Wade added in his head. No matter how many times he witnessed them, he will never stop feeling deeply upset by them. Seeing someone you love break and not being able to stop it is the worst feeling one can feel.
(Half an hour later)
Wade was silent, not daring to speak to the adults in fear of punishment. That's what normally happens when he speaks out of turn.
The others, however, were quietly discussing what they had just witnessed in tones of concern.
"How long do you suppose they last?"
"Is there a way to lessen their effects?"
"Should we get him some food?"
"We should probably let him stay here. He looked exhausted and in no condition to go home."
Wade scoffed at that word. Home. That hell hole of a prison was no home. It was a house of torture set up by a man with sick, twisted pleasures.
"Wade?" Natasha said calmly, staring in confusion at the suddenly angry boy.
"Don't send us home." He said so quietly it was practically inaudible.
"Why?"
"Because that place is awful! He tortures us, Peter especially. I don't know why he targets him. Maybe because he sees him as the weak one. Which he isn't. God he does twisted things to Peter, and I can't do shit to stop him. Please, send me back if you must but safe him. He doesn't deserve what Skip does to him."
Wade was beyond him breaking point, bawling in front of his life long heroes. At that moment, Peter came shuffling into the main room wrapped in a blanket and slightly puffy eyed. Upon seeing Wade he rushed to his side and hugged him tightly.
"Don't cry." He whispered. That's the thing about Peter Parker. No matter what happens to him, his top concern is always the people around him. If he sees someone in distress, any problems he has been dealing with disappears.
This display of compassion and empathy is what made the avengers silently swear to protect this boy at all costs.
That will start by getting rid of Skip Wescott.
I am ending this here. I would do another part but somehow I feel this is a fitting end to this one shot. I hope you enjoyed x
