CHAPTER11

i warned you :D

TW : SCHOOL
LOCKDOWN.

"And another round of applause to the swim team for winning the regional cup!" The head teacher said with enthusiasm, met with a far less excited clapping from the students. Jeongin let out a long fake yawn, earning a small snort from Felix, who sat in the row infront of him.

It was pure coincidence that Felix's class, a whole year above Jeongin's had chosen to say infront of his own during their weekly friday assembly, not that either of them were complaining. Beside him his friends just kept rolling their eyes everytime Felix turned around just a little to make eye contact with Jeongin, before promptly turning back around to hear the announcements.

Everything was calm, a little boring, but very much calm at that moment. Jeongin was looking forward to the weekend, where after swim practise he and all his friends (plus boyfriend) were going to watch a movie. Maybe after that Felix would come over, where they would just lounge around all day doing nothing, or go out to McDonald's for an apple pie (or four).

Everything was calm.

Until it wasn't.

Suddenly, an overbearing alarm rang throughout the assembly hall, catching the head teacher mid-sentence, confusion fluttering across his features.

Jeongin sat up straight, looking around the hall in confusion as well, "Fire alarm?"

Felix was the first to stand up, his eyes wide and face absolutely frozen in fear.

It seemed to send of a chain of reaction, as immediately students began to get up as well, but floundered around at their seats- unsure of where to go or what to do.

Except Felix, who suddenly seemed to snap out of his daze and back into a expression of understanding, but he was flushed, forhead covered in a wave of anxiety filled sweat. Jeongin immediately understood, Felix's face and restless hands paired with an alarm no one had heard before, his mouth went dry.

Body betraying him, Jeongin unconsciously grabbed onto Felix's blazer sleeve, gripping tightly as he muttered, "It's a lockdown."

"Lockdown?"

"It's a lockdown?"

"Wait- is someone in the school?"

"Holy shit! It's a lockdown."

Like dominos the calm and confused facade collapsed, and the thousand or so teenage boys burst into a flurry of fear and horror. Some instinctively pulled towards one another, others desperately looking for a teacher to explain what to do now.

"Everyone!" The all to familiar voice of the coach said, "Please remain in your seats and follow our instructions in an orderly fashion!"

Normally, the coach spoke with authority and wisdom, yet the end of his words wavered and voice cracked under pressure, and all of a sudden reality was far too heavy for Jeongin to carry.

Immediately, people shuffled back to their seats, however this time in their small little groups that had formed in a panic. Others chose to lay on the ground instead, their phones out of their pockets and shining up at their pale faces.

"Holy shit!" Someone from the front shouted, a younger student, "There's an invasion going on in Seoul. That's why we're-"

"Aliens?!"

"Where's iron man? Or the avengers! What's happening?"

The fear in the room was so heightened, Jeongin could almost imagine it swirling around the room in a dark mist of death. Grabbing each and every vulnerable teenager by the throat.

But nothing amounted to the fear he felt when Felix suddenly tugged away from him, trying to get out of the little crowd they were stuck in.

Jeongin fumbled with his hands, before he all but latched onto Felix's blazer sleeve, tightening his fingers around it so forcefully his knuckles were going white.

"W-where are you-"

"I'll be right back Jeongin!" Felix shouted back, over the rising volume of the other boys, "I promise."

"No. No. Stop it. You're not going." Jeongin mumbled, more to himself than to Felix, who was still trying to pull away.

"Jeongin let go! I just need to get something. I'll be right back!" He said more forcefully, obviously not actually trying to pull himself away, but rather allow Jeongin to let him go instead.

"No!" Jeongin shouted back, "No you're not going out there!"

"W-what?!" Felix shouted back, looking around anxiously, "I'm just going to go find Chan!"

He was lying. Felix's eyes were blown wide open and palms sweaty. But more so, Jeongin could see the slightest red poke through the top opened button of Felix's school shirt.

"Stop lying to me like that! I know where you're fucking going, Felix! I know! And I'm not letting you!"

Felix's expression grew from confused and concerned to frustrated. Jeongin almost let go in shock, never having seen such an emotion across the other boys face, especially directed at him.

"I have no idea what you're talking about! Now let me go!" He shouted back, actually pulling more harshly. However Jeongin preserved, and instead got pulled along and into Felix's chest.

Yet there wasn't a flutter in his heart when he did so, not even when Felix grabbed him by the shoulders and let him steady himself. Instead Jeongin felt so much bubbling anger, the top of his control about to fly open.

"That's it! I'm sick of you throwing yourself around like some war robot! You are a teenage boy, Felix. This is not your fight! The avengers are probably already there. So please, I'm begging you, don't go."

The exact moment realisation flashed onto Felix's face was nothing like Jeongin had imagine before. He had imagined this moment as a slow and calm reveal, a proper conversation and Felix being glad that Jeongin cared enough to not define Felix and spiderman.

Instead, the freckled boy looked betrayed and more than anything, angry.

"You- you knew?! All this time?"

"No!" Jeongin cried, his grip on Felix's blazer becoming weaker every second, "But that's not the problem Don't go, please! Just stay here where it's safe."

"If you knew me, really knew me..." Felix started, skin flushed red in a mix of emotions, "Then you'd know that I can't do that. I thought you'd understand."

They stopped, and it seemed like all the chaos around them stilled, just for a moment. It moved in slow motion, blurry around the two boys, who were so far apart on where they stood in this conversation, the single thread holding them to the ground was thinning dangerously.

"For the last time Jeongin, let go."

"Don't leave me."

Jeongin whispered in reply, heart and soul broken and conflicted. He watched as a split second of pain and regret flashed onto Felix's face, before immediately morphing into frustration again.

He suddenly turned around, pulling the blazer off of him and into Jeongin's hands.

And then he ran for the exit doors, through the crowd of frazzled colours of blue and brown, but nothing was clear. Because Jeongin watched him go, eyes becoming blurry with warm tears, as he clasped Felix's blazer tightly in his arms.

But one thing was clear to him through the screaming, shouting and deafening sound of blood rushing to his ears at the stress;

Felix didn't even look back once as he ran headfirst into danger.
