CHAPTER07
"Yo," was the first thing seungmin said when he answered Jeongin's phone call, "Wassup? How're you holding up?"
Jeongin rolled his eyes, knowing that even though the phone Seungmin could probably already imagine him doing so, "Besides the fact that I've been forced to miss school for the 'traumatic' experiences I've gone through, not that good. My grandma won't even let me open a packet of crisps in fear of me choking myself."
"Pfft, guess you'll just have to get used to it. Felix misses you."
The younger boy sputtered on his orange juice, looking around for his Grandma to see if she had witnessed him nearly dying, before angrily saying; "Kim Seungmin!" into the phone.
Seungmin only laughed, teasingly adding, "Yeah, he kept asking if you were alright and to make sure you were eating properly. Mans whipped."
"Or he's got a hero-complex." Jeongin muttered, chest feeling tight all of a sudden.
He had tried to avoid that certain realisation, pushing it into the back of his mind along with his Grandma's ludicrous superstitions. But it was so difficult to not care that his crush was spiderman, the same spiderman who he teased relentlessly and flew across town with;
The same spiderman who was risking his life.
It seemed that with every passing day, the public began to love spiderman more and more. Everytime Jeongin scrolled through his Twitter feed he was met with dozens of videos of Spiderman- no- Felix swinging around Seoul, catching bad guys.
Not to mention that the other day, he stopped a train with his bare hands.
Jeongin had cried when he found out, instantly calling Hyunjin to ask if Felix was alright. Hyunjin was confused at the sudden question, but answered that the boy was fine and was at swimming practise with the rest of them.
Which was another problem, no one else knew. It was heartbreaking to watch Felix hurt himself, while no one else cared.
Jeongin could faintly understand Seungmin's tangent about feminism, before he felt a mix of discomfort and annoyance towards the reckless teenager polluting his mind.
"Seungmin," he started, the other boy instantly humming in response, "Do you think...you could give me Felix's number?"
Silence, before-
"HOLY FUCKING CHRIST JEONGIN IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING I'M SO PROUD OF YOU-"
―
"Hello?" A deep and husky voice said on the other line, and instantly Jeongin wanted to throw himself down the stairs.
He took a deep breath in, "Uh Hi? Felix?"
"Wait- shit- uh- Jeongin?"
Warmth spread across his chest at the incoherent mess of words, and Jeongin questioned why he didn't see Spiderman's clumsy attitude in Felix's personality before hand. "Yeah it's me, how'd you know?"
"I uh- recognised your voice." He muttered hesitantly, and Jeongin felt the heat move up to his face, "Anyways, how are you? I miss- we miss you! The team. The team misses you."
Jeongin was grinning widely at Felix's slip up, but cleared his throat before answering, "Is that right?"
"Yup. So um, what's up?" Felix promptly asked changing the subject.
"Right, I just...uh...wanted to say..."
Fuck, Jeongin didn't think this far. In fact, when he called Felix's number a part of him hoped he was busy doing spiderman-stuff, giving Jeongin sometime to procrastinate before he says;
"Hey, I know you're that dumbass bitch spiderman who's been stalking me."
"I just wanted to say, keep safe? And look after yourself please, and uh, don't ever stop smiling. I appreciate you. Thank you for everything." Jeongin stuttered out nervously, resulting in a deep chuckle to reside from the other side of the phone, the sound of joy making it's way down Jeongin's chest and locating into his heart.
"You're so cute." Felix said, followed by, "Thank you for caring Jeongin, but I've hardly done anything to gain this praise."
But the boy didn't here the last part, as Jeongin literally threw his phone across his bed at the compliment, turning around to punch his pillow in embarrassment.
"Jeongin? Hello? Jeongin, you there?" Was faintly heard from the phone, and Jeongin, cheeks flushed, gently crawled across his bed, turning the speaker-phone on, before crawling back to the other side.
"Sorry, I just- put you on speaker and placed you like 3 feet away from me." He said nervously, making Felix laugh quietly again.
"Why's that?" He said, tone light-hearted.
I know you're spiderman.
"I...You-"
"You? Me?" Felix copied, voice shifting into a little more concern, "Everything okay?"
"I need you to know that I-"
KNOW YOU'RE SPIDERMAN.
"I need to tell you, that I...like you. WAIT I MEAN-"
Felix sounded like he had inhaled far too much oxygen, as he burst into a painful coughing fit before he eloquently stated, "...what?"
Jeongin's stomach dropped, and palms grew sweaty. That was not what he wanted to tell him- but Felix's reaction hurt even more than his mix up.
"Jeongin? Can you...please say that again?"
Jeongin was high on a mix of emotions, eyes stinging, "No I- sorry that's not what I-"
"Do you want to get coffee tomorrow?"
Jeongin shot up in an instance, nearly falling head first off the bed at his uncoordinated actions to grab the phone, "What?"
"I said," he stated again, fondness in his words, embracing Jeongin's anxiety like a blanket of comfort, "Do you want to get some coffee with me tomorrow?"
Jeongin was staring at the phone like it had just told him all of the words deepest secrets, "Why would you want to do that?"
"What do you mean why?" Felix replied in mock-shock, laughing brightly,
"It's because I like you too!"
