THE FANCY DOUBLE doors opened, revealing a whole crowd, full of teenagers with red solo cups in hand. This wasn't really your scene; you'd much rather be at home with your stashes of junk food and ring in the new year with your family.
But no, Peter, MJ, and Ned just happened to drag you along to Liz Allen's huge New Year's party. The four of you were supposed to go to the store to pick up some supplies for New Year's, but one text message later, you all were driving to her house.
The strong scent of alcohol and an odd presence of vanilla circled around you, flashing colors being the only light source, and bass-boosted music filling the air.
"This is-" you paused, grabbing a cup of what looked like fruit punch. "Awesome."
MJ nodded, doing the same as you. Ned and Peter both followed, grabbing cups of their own and swaying to the music. Thankfully, Peter's advanced sense of smell caught the slight sting of raspberry alcohol. He quickly tore the cup away from Ned, too late to save you and MJ, now.
"Shit." He muttered under his breath, watching the two of you throw your cups to the side and grabbing a new one.
Peter watched as your lip attached to the red cup, not taking longer than a few seconds to take away the cup from your grasp. You frowned, starting to crave the raspberry tasting liquid. Shrugging, you grabbed Peter's hand and started to drag him outside, where a majority of the people were.
Ned and slightly-sober MJ smirked, knowing how much you liked Peter and how he returned the feelings. It became clear to them when he showed up to school with a handful of flowers on your birthday. Apparently, May had gotten an extra bouquet and insisted that it was given to y/n. However, neither MJ or Ned believed the story. Peter had shown too many signs of attraction, at least, according to Ned.
You started to laugh when you saw how careful Peter was, trying not to bother teenagers or fall into the pool. It was hard to tell whether the color on his cheeks was from the strobing lights or just the color of embarrassment.
"Peter, you-you need to loosen up a wee bit." You whispered, beginning to sway to the fading music. Peter was thanking the Gods that you hadn't downed a whole other cup. He knew that you were at least seventy-percent sober, you weren't even old enough to drink! It was a simple mistake.
"I'm trying, but it's hard when you're the least bit drunk." He exclaimed over the loud music, leading you back to a less-crowded part of the backyard.
You scoffed, sitting down next to Peter on the swing. "I'm not drunk, just a little out of it, you know?"
Moving your head to his shoulder, you could feel him let out an aggravated sigh, running his hands through his curls and eventually leaning his head on yours. The two of you were best friends, so this wasn't new. But it still made both of your hearts flutter. Though you nor Peter would admit it, you both had overpowering feelings for each other.
As you watched the couples start to get together for the last song of the year, you longed to be up there, with Peter. But you thought that he was only your best friend, nothing more. Truth be told, you had liked him ever since the seventh grade, liking him for his personality. His bright eyes and curled hair were just an added bonus.
A hand appeared in front of you, your mind quickly noticing that it was Peter who was in front of you, offering a dance. You smiled, taking his hand as he put his hands around your waist. In return, you wrapped your arms around his neck.
The shouts of numbers started, immediately bringing your attention from Peter's vibrant eyes to the countdown going on around the two of you. As soon as the countdown got to one, near fireworks started going off as you all shouted happy new year.
Peter whispered your name, cupping your cheek in one hand as he brushed a piece of hair behind your ear.
"Can I kiss you?"
You nodded, feeling his lips press against yours, feeling accomplished that the crush you've had since you were in seventh grade was now kissing you.
"Well, I like you, y/n," Peter chuckled. "as if the kiss from Spider-Man wasn't enough."
A laugh slipped out of your lips, bringing a smile to your lips as Ned and MJ watched, happy that the two of you would no longer have to hide your feelings.
