The Monstrous Has Become Everyday

A/N: Sorry it's been a while! I've been focusing on Like Crazy since it's been doing extremely well. I hope you enjoy this chapter, and I hope you like the new cover, too :)

June felt as though he were floating.

A million stars collapsed in on themselves in the second it took June to jump. Weightlessness kissed his body. His fingers touched pure air, wind brushing by and lifting him higher. The bricks of the apartments beckoned him closer like a siren's song. He listened, the alluring tone shushing the wails of the child hiding behind his closed heart. The shattered pieces of Jeon Jungkook left him in that moment. They clattered to the ground with a 'bang!' that caused a shudder to force its way through June's flesh.

His feet stuck to the apartment that sung to him. His webs were loaded and ready to attack the only target left in the area. Yoongi had his gauntlet charged and ready to counterattack. June didn't want to give him the chance.

He pranced into action. His feet left the brick wall and brought him back to the air that flushed his face and caused his hair to prick at the corners of his mask. His rushed breaths filled his stomach with nausea. Despite his mask, he could smell the stench of garbage rising into the wind. He could feel the dust cartwheeling by his head and laughing at him as he hit the ground.

June fired a web, but Yoongi blocked it with his gauntlet. He jumped and ducked. He ran and dove to the ground to avoid Yoongi's onslaught of attacks. It didn't matter. Yoongi hit him in the stomach anyway.

June went flying back and crashed into the side of the grocery store. Glass shattered and covered his body. His suit got torn from the little pieces digging into his flesh. He coughed and got on all fours before gaining the power to hoist himself up.

His new plan was to avoid any hits. Yoongi was slow, but every punch meant June got weaker. He doubted he could take more than three. Hell, that first punch almost knocked June clean out.

"Back off," Yoongi said, holding his gauntlet up. "Let me live my life with Jin. You're going to get on that plane and go back to South Korea, live your life with your friends. If you don't, I will kill you. Don't make me repeat myself, I hate social interaction."

June didn't reply. Instead, he sprung up and soared above Yoongi. He fired webs in the process, tying Yoongi to the ground before attaching one to the sign hanging off the wall of the grocery store. June flung himself down and slammed into Yoongi's stomach. The webs snapped and sent Yoongi to the concrete. He hit the sidewalk so hard it caused a crack to form underneath him.

Yoongi grunted and flipped June off before getting up. June let him. He had too much respect for Yoongi. He didn't want to beat him while he was down; besides, Yoongi had done the same for him when June got slammed into the grocery store.

"Drink break?" Yoongi asked, motioning to the bar across the street.

"Too early."

"Dammit," Yoongi grumbled before charging once again.

June stuck to the high ground, where Yoongi couldn't hit him. However, June couldn't hit him either. All he had were webs that could stun Yoongi, but not cause any damage. June opted to burn out Yoongi's stamina, making him run from point A to point B until June finally had the courage to drop to his level.

June sprinted and met Yoongi in the middle. Their fists collided, June ducking to avoid the giant gauntlet Yoongi swung his way. They traded punches, but Yoongi's armor made it hard to land any impactful blows. Unfortunately, June's suit hadn't been reinforced with steel or any of the designs Taehyung had in mind. That meant, compared to Yoongi, he was bare.

Yoongi kept his weight center. He had balance in his moves, almost like Jimin had when him and June used to spar. Yoongi had a focused gaze and, despite his personality, he seemed in control. He seemed like he could go for hours while June was struggling to keep up. Although June was a superhero, dodging such a powerful weapon left a strain on him he hadn't expected.

That showed when June got sloppy and made a misstep. He went to push off and go back toward the grocery store, but Yoongi predicted it and placed his gauntlet there, June's body hitting it and getting thrown down. He hopped right back up despite the ache in the back of his head.

June resisted the urge to let out a battle cry as he stormed toward Yoongi. The man was unaffected and kept himself in a ready position. June hopped up and prepared to swing down with all his might, but his plans changed when Yoongi sidestepped and punched with the gauntlet.

That time, June received a blow to the chest. He heard a crack, likely his ribcage or his shoulder. His lungs heaved and collapsed in on themselves. A numbness fell on his mind as he hit a wall he couldn't identify. No breaths came to his body. None that he could feel, anyway. His vision edged on blackness as his arms went limp. Just as he had always been, he was powerless.

"Aviva," he whispered as tears raced down his face. He searched for her in the darkness, but she didn't answer.

Yoongi approached and knelt. He was saying something, but June couldn't make out what. He had what looked to be a walkie-talkie in his hand. That meant he was calling for backup. That was it. June lost. Again, he lost to Min Yoongi. He had to protect Jimin, Taehyung, Jin, and all of BTS. All of that multiverse, yet he couldn't.

So, he shut his eyes and embraced his fate.

~~~
June didn't know where else to go.
With a bleeding lower lip and a torn suit bundled in his grasp, he kicked the apartment door. Silence followed. A minute later, a voice came over the intercom.
"누구세요? (who are you?)" Jungkook's voice asked.
June almost cried. "It's me. Please let me in."
The door opened almost immediately. Jungkook's doe eyes fell on June as he dragged him inside. June trembled and let his tears fall. His suit was in shambles, but he had no supplies to fix it. Even worse, he didn't have Taehyung. Taehyung, Yoongi, and Jin separated at the airport, and June had to pretend everything was okay. Taehyung had to pretend, too.
"What happened?" Jungkook asked as he wrapped an arm around him. "I thought you were going home. Where's Taehyung? Is he okay?"
"Yeah he's-" But June cut himself off as soon as Jungkook pulled him into the living room. The couch wasn't empty like June was expecting. There was a lone figure there, his wide eyes falling on June's battered self.
Park Jimin.
Jimin shot up. "병신- (not a nice word)."
"지민," Jungkook said, holding up his hand. "괜찮아. 앉아 (It's okay. Sit)."
Jimin, although hesitant, plopped his thick ass back down and glared at the clone of Jeon Jungkook. June gulped and pretended his hands weren't trembling.
"Okay, get washed up and put on a fresh set of clothes. I'll tell Jimin what's going on and maybe convince him to speak English on your behalf," Jungkook said. "You know where my shower is. Need any help?"
"N-No," June stammered, wheezing from the pressure on his lungs.
"What's wrong?"
"Yoongi, he got me good. I have bruised ribs, maybe a punctured lung if he fractured any of my bones."
"Yoongi?!" Jimin asked in a shout.
"Yoongi is from my world, he's not your Yoongi," June explained, Jungkook's eyes widening. "He ambushed me. Taehyung is safe and back in Korea with all the others, but that doesn't mean this is over. Your Yoongi is gone, and I need to find out where my Yoongi took him."
Jungkook sucked in a breath. Jimin looked confused, so Jungkook ushered June into the bedroom. "Go," Jungkook said, pointing to the shower. "I'll explain everything to him."
"I'm sorry, I didn't know Jimin was here."
"It's not your fault." June was about to dig through Jungkook's closet, but Jungkook cleared his throat. June turned and raised a brow. "I know this isn't the right time, but I'm glad you're back. It's good to see you."
June smiled. Jungkook returned it. "It's good to see you too."
With that, June showered and saw the extent of his injuries. He had bruises all over his body. Yoongi had decided to take June back to Korea instead of killing him. June didn't know whether to be grateful or confused. Ever since they got back, Yoongi didn't speak to him. Not on the plane, not in the airport, nowhere.
Taehyung and Jin hadn't interacted with him either. June had been forced to wear a mask to hide his bruised face and bloody lip. He had it stashed with his torn suit. June had been in and out of consciousness on the long plane ride back, which meant he didn't have time to process what had happened.
He lost.
Yoongi stayed with Jin and threatened the multiverse. Beyond that, the real Yoongi had been missing for who knew how long now. That meant June had to save him, but how? How did he convince Yoongi to stand down? It had been years since Jin died. June wasn't over it, so how did he convince Yoongi to move on when June himself couldn't do the same?
June stripped and entered the shower, letting the water cool him and ease his aching bones. Thanks to his uncanny abilities, June already felt better. The flight had been so long he had the chance to recover on the plane. Still, he had bruises and aches. He was limping and whining whenever he put too much pressure on his right leg. He'd need a week to heal, maybe more. That meant a week without getting into a fight with Yoongi. A week without discovering where the true Yoongi was.
Twenty minutes later, June dried off, got changed, and entered the living room to face Park Jimin. He hadn't thought about that either. Too much had happened, too much for June to process. Jimin was the last thing he needed. Too much guilt and misery swarmed inside his veins.
"So," Jimin said in his broken English accent. "You're not... Jungkook?"
June ruffled his wet hair and nodded. "제 이름은 박준이에요 (My name is Park June/Joon)."
"한국어를-"
"아니요 (no)," Jungkook interrupted. Jimin pouted. "English only. Don't make him uncomfortable. You've been working on your English, haven't you?"
Jimin blinked. "What the fuck did you just say?"
"Who taught him English curses?" June asked, exasperated. Deep down, it hurt to hear Jimin talk like that. He sounded too similar to June's Jimin.
Jimin ignored June's question. "Is that why, when we meet, you hugged me and cried?"
"Met," Jungkook corrected. Jimin glared as Jungkook snickered.
"Back home, I had a Jimin. He was my best friend. My real name is Jeon Jungkook, but I changed it to Park June after disaster struck and hurt my friends. I named myself Park after you."
Jungkook translated for Jimin, who nodded after Jungkook was done. "What happened?"
June slumped his shoulders. The simple action hurt. "Jin had a daughter named Aviva. She was my lover, but she had ALS, and Jin thought my blood could be the cure because of my abilities. Jin went insane and tried to hurt all of us. I... had to kill him. He threatened you, Taehyung, our girlfriends, and who knows who else he would've went after if it meant saving Aviva. I loved her, but I couldn't let him hurt my friends. After that, I left. I didn't want you and the others to be in harm's way because of me."
Once again, Jungkook translated, and Jimin tilted his head. "Girlfriends?"
"I asked you about Raven, remember?"
"Raven," Jimin repeated, the single name sounding like a whisper on his tongue. "Wow. I score in every universe."
"I swear to God," Jungkook muttered, rubbing his temple. "That's what you took out of that?"
Jimin grinned. "Yes."
June stared at Jimin before laughing, the other two joining in a beat later. The past forty-eight hours had been a disaster, but that was a moment of serenity June needed. Jimin acted just like June's Jimin. It brought a comfort and warmth to his soul. Jimin had his witty, charming nature, but also his beautiful smile that crinkled his puppy eyes.
Jimin spoke in Korean, but he said words June couldn't understand. His vocabulary was too complex. Although June had an easy time understanding Jungkook and Taehyung, Jimin was another level. It was as if Jimin was the Edgar Allan Poe of Korea.
"He said he's sorry about your friends and he's taken a keen interest in your story. He wants to help," Jungkook said.
June sighed. "I don't even know what keen means in English."
Jungkook snorted and turned to Jimin, who had amusement on his face. Jimin motioned to June, who didn't understand what he was trying to say until Jungkook kicked his shin.
June stood, Jimin standing with him and moving forward. Jimin hugged him. June almost broke down in Jimin's warm arms. They were his safe space. They were a home he could escape to on a rainy night when he had no hope for himself.
The thought caused tears to slip by June's eyes. They weren't sad tears, they were overjoyed he found someone to latch onto in this world full of pain. Jungkook was another version of himself, Yoongi was kidnapping people, and Taehyung didn't understand. But something told June that the Jimin in his arms did. At least, he tried to. Or June missed his Jimin so much he clung onto the new one a bit tighter as if to make up for what he had been through.
"사랑해 (I love you)," Jimin whispered.
"You don't know me," June whispered back, his voice cracking.
Jimin parted from the hug but kept his hands on Jungkook's neck. It was such an intimate touch it had June shuddering, his lower lip quivering as soon as Jimin's eyes met his. Then, they crinkled from the weight of the smile spreading across Jimin's face. The single expression had June believing everything would be okay.
"I don't need to."
