The Hunt For Min Yoongi

Being back in Korea meant June had little time to lose.

It was time to find the real Min Yoongi, before it was too late. The longer June stayed in the multiverse, the more anxiety crept up his veins and nibbled on his blood. There were countless families that were taken because of this. How did he find them? He didn't know if he could, but if he could at least save Yoongi, maybe that would be a start.

June's Yoongi had confirmed that the real Yoongi was in Korea with his subordinates. That was the only clue June had, but that didn't narrow it down. Jin, with the help of June, would confront Yoongi soon. For sake of June, they'd keep it in English as much as possible.

His spider suit clung to his body as he paced around Jungkook's apartment. They had no time to lose, all that was left was waiting for confirmation from Jin that the plan was set in motion. June could swing around and search for the real Yoongi in the meantime, but he didn't see much point in wasting his energy when there was a high chance he'd be fighting his Yoongi later. After all, negotiations hadn't worked in the past. Jin was June's only hope of converting Yoongi to their side.

"Pacing won't solve anything," Jungkook said from his spot on the couch. He had a glass of banana milk in his hands, and he took a sip before placing it on the coffee table. "You'll be home soon. That's what you want, right?"

There was a hint of bitterness in his tone. It chipped at the pits of June's heart. He stopped and shifted to face the bunny-like man. He had big doe eyes that were filled with an unreadable expression. June tried to pick away at the layers Jungkook put up, but nothing worked. It was like staring at a blank slate.

"I wish there was a solution that worked for both of us. I wish I could stay here with you, but I need to go home. You know that, please don't make me feel bad about leaving."

Jungkook dropped his shoulders. "I'm not, I'm sorry. It's just... it's been a while since I've had someone I could connect to like this."

June plopped down on the couch next to Jungkook. He took off his mask and placed it in Jungkook's hands, and the boy glanced up with his irises sparking with confusion.

"Put it on," June said.

Although hesitant, Jungkook did as he was told. The mask covered him. His hair disappeared along with the rest of his face. Instead of doe eyes, June gazed at the mask he had so carefully crafted. There were scratches and tears from the fights he had with Yoongi, but the mask did its job.

"I have a responsibility to protect you," June said. "That mask is my oath to the people that I will keep them safe. I kept Maryland safe, but every second I'm not here, someone back home is getting hurt. If you were taken away from the stage, how would you feel?"

June didn't need to see Jungkook's face to know he was deflating. He didn't answer for a long moment. His hands went to the end of the mask to tug on it as if curtaining himself from June's view.

"I have been taken away from the stage before. It's the worst feeling in the world."

"And that's how I feel right now. Being Spiderman is what keeps me going. It's my pride, it's the thing I live for. This job takes sacrifice. I left my closest friends behind to protect them, and you've seen how well that's been going for me. Can you imagine leaving Jimin and Taehyung behind?"

Jungkook took off the mask. His lower lip quivered. "Never."

"Then please believe me when I say leaving you is one of the hardest things I'll ever have to do. But it has to be done," June said, taking the mask from Jungkook and holding it against his chest. "For Spiderman."

Jungkook reached forward and embraced June. Amazement shot through June's veins, but he returned the hug and held the trembling Jungkook.

"You better live a damn good life, Jeon," Jungkook said, and June chuckled.

"It's Park now."

Jungkook pulled back and laughed with tears in his eyes. "Yeah, yeah it is."

June geared up while Jungkook watched. His mask covered his head, and he decided against pacing. Jin texted Jungkook about the plan, and it seemed as though they were ready. All that was left was confronting Yoongi and finding where the real one was.

"Meet Jin at Yoongi's apartment," Jungkook said, showing June the phone that stated the details, including the address. "And be careful. I need to see you before you go home. At least one more time."

"You will, you have my word."

With that, June left. The night sky called to him as he swung through the city of Seoul. Yoongi's apartment wasn't far from Jungkook; all of the boys chose to live somewhat close together as to avoid scheduling conflicts. Jimin lived the closest to the company since he was most likely to be late, and Yoongi was right behind him due to his addiction to sleeping in. June took advantage of that.

He was unfamiliar with Seoul, but he at least knew HYBE. He knew enough that he took backroads and didn't draw attention to himself. Despite having incredible abilities, he didn't flaunt them; instead, he stayed low and swung between smaller buildings instead of the giants.

By the time he arrived, he saw an expensive car parked out front. It had to be Jin's. Like Yoongi, June did research on the BTS members and learned Jin was fond of cars. If the car didn't belong to Yoongi (it didn't seem like his type), then who else?

June noticed how large the apartment complex was, but also how fancy. It had more glass than anything else, and it reflected the moon's light onto June's body. He swung himself to a back alley and took off his suit. He had a thin layer of protective clothing underneath. The clothes were black and left no inch of skin visible. He folded his suit and tucked it under his arm before rushing inside the complex.

The lobby was enormous, but Jungkook ignored the receptionists behind the mahogany front desk and went to the elevators. As soon as he was up on Yoongi's floor, he located the apartment worth more than the money June had earned in all the years he had worked as a waiter.

June stopped outside and heard voices. One voice was Jin's, the other Yoongi's. They weren't arguing, more like having a friendly conversation. June could hear Jin's windshield wiper laugh, and it filled his stomach with unwanted warmth. The sound of Jin's laugh was a comforting distraction, but a distraction nonetheless. He forced his personal feelings aside and opened the door without knocking.

A hallway with a shoe rack right by the door awaited him. June didn't have shoes, only socks that he wore under his suit. He walked by the row of basketball shoes and glanced at the white, barren walls. There were no paintings or decorations. It appeared as though Yoongi took after Jimin: he was a minimalist. There were few decorations; the apartment's structure spoke for itself. It had polished wooden floors and bright lights that ensured there wasn't a single shadow.

There were no bugs hiding away, no stains, no scratches. Everything was pristine as if the apartment had been bought yesterday. June traced his finger across the wall as he walked by and noticed there weren't any bumps. His apartment had bumps, and the thought made him yearn his home.

June departed the hallway and entered the main room, which was a living room with a flat screen TV mounted on the wall along with a gray couch across from it. It was an L-shaped sofa with thick cushions and a coffee table in front of it. Yoongi and Jin sat there, not too far apart. Jin met June's eyes, and it was as if the letters 'SOS' were flashing in Jin's expression.

Yoongi tilted his head. "I didn't know you were coming."

Yoongi spoke in English. He knew June wasn't Jungkook right away. If the suit in June's hands didn't give it away, it was the dazed look that showed he hadn't gotten much sleep ever since he had arrived in Korea.

"We have to talk to you," June said, and Yoongi peeked at Jin and raised a brow.

"We?"

"Drop the act. Tell us where the real Yoongi is."

"Such strong allegations," Yoongi said with a tongue click. "I don't know what your game is, but I'd appreciate it if you calmed down."

"No," Jin said, and Yoongi snapped his head around at that. "Stop it. Where is my Yoongi?"

Yoongi's expression faltered. His lips twitched into a frown, and tears began to swim in his irises. He brought his gaze back to June and shook his head.

"Don't do this to me, please."

Yoongi's voice was a pained whisper. It sounded like another version of June, the version that had begged himself not to leave his closest friends. But those days had passed, and June was a new person now. A person who wouldn't let Yoongi get away with his crimes.

"You did this to yourself the second you took Yoongi from Jin," June said, gripping his suit as tightly as he could. "Don't make me put this on. Tell us where the real Yoongi is and this is all over."

"I don't want a fight, but I can't give you Yoongi. How about a compromise?"

Figuring that was the most progress he had ever made with Yoongi, June gave in. "I'm listening."

"I'll tell you the locations of my men. You go to them and take them back to our world. You were right, the portal is in Maryland, right where it is back home. That solves one problem, yeah? All those men walking around with their alternative universe families, risking exposure. Isn't that what you want?"

"That's a start, but we need Yoongi too," June said. "Don't make me ask your men where you put him."

"They won't give that information up."

"Just like how you didn't give them up?"

"They knew it was a risk," Yoongi replied with an eye roll. "They knew by going into this world, there was always a chance someone would take them away from it. Someone like you. Why can't you let us live our lives in peace?"

"Because you've kidnapped innocent people for your benefit. Your men, where are this world's versions of them, huh? They're gone too, right? This goes deeper than kidnapping Yoongi. You're hurting dozens of people by doing this. Look at what you've done to Jin, the man you claim you love."

Yoongi met Jin's stare, and Jin had disapproval shining on his face. Yoongi flicked his attention back to June and stood. He brought his hand to his mouth and bit on his nails.

"I can't leave, you don't understand."

"I do," June whispered. "Better than anyone, I understand the feeling. I had to leave my best friends. I had to leave myself-"

"And I have to leave Jin!" Yoongi interrupted in a shout. "I can't leave him! I've spent years trying to find a way to get him back, and now that I finally have, Jin's murderer is telling me to let him go? How fucked is that, Jeon?!"

Jin got up and placed his hand on Yoongi's shoulder. "Yoongi, please. I love you so much, you know that."

Yoongi teared up. "I love you too. I can't lose you again."

"We want to help, no one wants to hurt you," June said, and Jin agreed.

Yoongi slumped down on the couch and leaned back with tears running down his cheeks. He peered at June before reaching for his phone and handing it over.

"All the locations of my men are in the notes app. Password is four sevens. We'll start there and talk about Yoongi later. Just go. Both of you," Yoongi said.

June took the phone and unlocked it, confirming Yoongi's story before deciding to take Jin and leave. Thanks to Jin pressuring Yoongi, they got a lead for the first time in what felt like ages. The last thing June wanted to do was push his luck. They'd find the real Yoongi at some point, but for now, they would take the other mercenaries back home. It'd be a long journey, and one June would beg Jungkook to spend a fortune on, but it'd be worth it in the end. Peace would be kept, the multiverse would be safe, and June could protect those in need.

As Jin and June left the apartment complex and went to the car that was indeed Jin's, Jin stopped and turned to June. They didn't speak for a moment. Then, Jin sighed.

"I don't want to hurt him."

"Neither do I," June said. The words felt like they were stabs to his lungs. "But if he doesn't give us the location of Yoongi, we might have to either interrogate one of his men or do some things we may regret."

By "we," June meant him, but he didn't want to shut Jin out if he didn't have to. Jin nodded and tapped the side of his car. It was red, almost like a scarlet color, but Jungkook didn't recognize what brand it was.

"Let's go," Jin said. June could tell there was more Jin wanted to say, but June didn't pry. The last time he pushed Jin, it didn't end well for either of them. He didn't want those memories, so he brushed them off and entered the vehicle.

They had a lead. They had a list of the men they had to go retrieve and send home using Jungkook's never-ending bank account. June took a deep breath. This was it.

He was one step closer to going home.
