Wakanda: Part 2
(Recap: The avengers are on their way to Wakanda for Ramonda's birthday, who is T'Challa's mom. That's pretty much it. Hope you web-heads like it😊).
"Should we wake him up?"
"Nah, he'll be with us in a few minutes."
"Is that drool?"
"He so cuuute."
"I think he just winked at me."
"Clint, how do you even wink with your eyes closed?"
"Guys, quiet down, we don't want to wake him."
Peter groaned and rubbed his eyes as sudden light assaulted them. Blurry forms huddled around his head leaning over him. The boy jerked back from them, surprised, and found himself on the soft carpet of Tony's private jet, with a bump on the back of his head. The Avengers burst out laughing at his reaction, Sam and Clint among the loudest.
"FRIDAY," Tony gasped. "Please tell me you got that recorded in the security log?"
"Yes boss, I did."
Peter glowered at them, which only encouraged their teasing. Happy stood behind him, sunglasses on and hands locked together behind his back, face expressionless. Mostly anyways. Something that Peter could almost confirm as a smile flickered on his mouth but was gone so fast the boy must have imagined it.
"Happy, would you put our stuff in the bus?" Tony waved his hand outside.
Happy nodded and turned, probably to hide the fact that he was mumbling about not being Tony's butler. Peter chuckled, noticing Steve's hidden grin as well. The Avengers piled out of the jet, literally tripping over each other trying to get down the ramp. Tony and Dr. Banner had giddy expression on their faces like kids on Christmas and, unbeknownst to him, so did Peter. The rest of the team rolled their eyes at the scientists and prodigy, knowing how nerdy they were.
The jet was on a long dirt strip surrounded by dried grasslands and, farther out, a line of thick trees. The road stretched to the left until it stopped at the tree line and right came to an abrupt stop when it reached a green covered hill. There was a long bus that looked like the one Peter had taken from school to go skiing. They had been in that bus for hours trying to get to a decent ski lodge. All he remembered were the two annoying people a few seats in front of him who kept making out, leaving the girl reading a book awkwardly next to them unnoticed. (I was the girl. I wanted to punch them so bad.) Peter rolled his eyes at the memory.
A small blast of spidey sense went off and the boy spun around quickly to catch the bag that was thrown at him. His bag. Happy leaned back into the hatch and continued to mumble under his breath and chuck suit cases out onto the dusty ground. Clint caught sight of it and started to complain, but Tony just continued chatting with Pepper and Steve. Rhodey and Happy dragged the bags into the bus and managed to coax everyone into it. Peter ended up sitting by Tony while Pepper and Nat talked behind them. Happy started up the bus and pressed the exceleration lightly.
"Excited, kid?" Tony elbowed him, getting Peter's attention.
"Yes!" Peter replied enthusiastically. "I'm so happy you invited me Mr. Stark! Do you think they'll teach us about vibranium? Will we be able to take some home? That would be cool. I wonder if they can help upgrade my suit. Or just my web shooters. Do you think they make all their metal stuff outta vibranium? Like forks and bowls? Since they have so much it would be less expensive. But I guess they're on a mine and have loads of money..."
Tony smiled fondly as the kid rambled. He'd be annoyed if anyone else had been doing it. But he enjoyed listening to Peter be so happy and excited about something.
Stop it, he told himself sternly. You can be there for him but you could never replace his real father and uncle, for that matter.
If Tony could keep him, he would. The team loved him. He was already over at their place most of the time. Even Happy, Tony knew, secretly enjoyed the boy's enthusiasm. They were like a big, messed up, super powered, diverse family. Peter was the glue. No more Civil Wars were happening any time soon as long as Pete was with them.
"Uh," Scott waved a hand to get the driver's attention. "Happy, what are you doing?"
Peter's head snapped up at the nervousness in his voice.
"Hogan, there's a mountain in your way," Sam commented.
Peter had to stand from his seat to look over the tall back rest in front of him. Happy was casually driving down the road that stopped at the hill. Tony and Pepper his their knowing smiled beside him. The rest of the Avengers were in an equal state of confusion.
"Why are we going this way?"
"Push the brakes!"
Vision looked around in confusion. "There is no mountain?"
"Huh?" Wanda glanced at him. "It's right there!"
Tony yelled for Happy to speed up, enjoying a chance to scare his teammates. Pepper smacked his arm lightly and he sat back down. The billionaire reclined his chair and made a show of how unconcerned he was about the whole situation. Peter obviously noticed and furrowed his brows, trying to figure out the trick. Maybe the bus could fly? He wouldn't be surprised.
Nearly the whole teams was standing, except for Bruce who had slipped his headphones on and closed his eyes as soon as people started panicking. Clint was trying to pry open the doors. Natasha and Hope looked on with amused expressions, knowing Tony wouldn't put them in danger. Steve had thought that too, so none of it was making sense. Peter was horrified because his spidey sense wasn't going off. What if it was broken? Bucky stood up and turned around in his seat with a fierce mask.
He pointed at Tony with an accusing finger. "Stark. What THE FU–"
Then they crashed into the rocky mountain side.
