Mistakes and Names: 五

(Recap: Peter's feeling replaced while Tony's oblivious and the team is outside of Pepper's hospital room waiting for an update...sorry for the depression last time. But this one will have SO MUCH FLUFF I PROMISE.)

A nurse pushed Peter back with the door half closed with a no-nonsense look on his face. "Sorry, kid, strictly family members until they allow visitors. Last time I checked, Tony Stark's only son is a newborn."

A heavy hand landed on the arachnid's shoulder as he wilted. "Last I checked, you can have more than one son."

Captain America stood intimidatingly behind him, glaring the nurse down. "And this just happens to be Tony's other kid."

The nurse's eyes widened and he opened his mouth to say something, quickly closing it again as the entire Avengers stood at attention.

"I'd back off if I were you," Clint growled. Though he was weaponless, he was still plenty dangerous.

The nurse made a little squeaking sound in the back of his throat and stepped aside.

"G-go ahead Mr...uh....Stark," the nurse mumbled and opened the door for Peter.

The teen beamed at the team, and they all smiled back. It was like positivity floated off him. You couldn't not smile when he looked at you like that.

Natasha stepped forward to usher him into the room, closing the door behind him to let the family have some privacy.

Pepper gasped in a light tone. "Peter!"

Tony looked up from the wiggling bundle in her arms to grin widely at the teen. He looked like the happiest man on Earth, sitting next to his lovely wife with his newborn son. He still managed to surprise Peter with his next words.

"Come on kid, meet your baby brother!" Tony patted the bed next to him for Peter to join.

"Uhhh," he hesitated. "Why?"

"Huh?" Tony glanced up at him, expression faltering. "Well, I mean, I assumed you would want to meet him–"

"No," Peter flushed helplessly. "Why am I still here?"

"What is that supposed to–"

"How come you haven't ditched me yet?" Peter burst out angrily. As if he hadn't know what he meant.

The billionaire looked at a loss of words for once.

Pepper stared at him, sadness clouding her joy. "We would never ditch you Peter. You're family too."

Peter smacked himself in the face. He hadn't meant to make the happy moment all about him. He didn't want them to remember this day like this.

"Sorry. I'll just...I'll just go."

"Um, no you won't," Tony was immediately up, grasping his arm tightly. "You won't get out of this that easily.

"I'm sorry," Peter felt tears well up. "I'm sorry I got in the way of your family."

"Kid, what the hell are you talking about?" Tony choked and pulled him into a hug. "You didn't get in the way. You made it. We wouldn't be a family without you. We would be less human too."

Peter's hands shook as he tried to push away, a tear streaking down his face. Then another. His voice cracked as he argued, "But I'm just some kid from Queens."

"You aren't just some kid, Pete. You're Spider-Man, super arachnid supreme, looking out for the little guys. Even more than that, you're Peter Parker. Always kind, always clever, always lighting up the room just by walking in. You're my kid, Pete, and if anyone tells you otherwise, I'll sue them myself."

"But, Mr. Stark..." Peter whimpered. "You have a real son now. You don't–you don't need me anymore."

"Peter Benjamin Parker, I need you. Pepper needs you. This team needs you. Your little brother needs you. None of us could really live our lives without you in them. Why would you say that? You don't..."

Tony trailed off and his eyes lost their focus. Peter took his advantage to pull away and jerk the door open. He didn't get very far seeing the wall of easedropping Avengers. He groaned in embarrassment and frustration.

"Let me goooo," he complained to them as Rhodey and Sam grabbed his wrists and pulling him back into the room. "Please?"

"Nope, sorry," Sam scoffed without much sincerity.

Peter humphed and slumped into their arms, letting them drag him back into the room. Pepper sat cradling the swaddle on the bed and Peter felt even worse. He had totally ruined the moment.

The Avengers trapped him in the middle of a sympathetic circle. What did they want from him? To confess? He didn't want people to feel worse since he was obviously just overreacting a lot.

"Look Pete, we've all gone through this before–" Tony started with a sigh and took his fiancée's hand.

"Yeah right!" The teen threw his hands up as emotions coursed down his cheeks. "You're a billionaire. Superheroes! Why would any of you ever feel–"

He abruptly shut his mouth, not wanting to cause any more guilt.

"Replaced?" Scott finished sadly. "Kid, you have no idea. We weren't superheroes when we were kids. We were even more normal than you."

"Most of them," Thor corrected gruffly.

The team ignored him.

"We could never replace you Peter," Wanda soothed sadly.

Bucky nodded "You're the glue, kid."

"People think they can replace friends or family or partners," Hope crossed her arms and looked out the dark window. "They can't. No matter the distance they put between them. They'll realize how much that person actually mattered, contributed. They just don't come forward and apologize because of dumb pride. People can't just be replaced. Anyone who tried to, ended up making it worse. If anyone ever replaced you, they didn't deserve you, Peter."

Natasha wrapped her arms around the teen without saying anything. Peter cried into her shoulder, hiccuping. Clint wrapped a supportive arm around his shoulder and he thanked them silently. They seemed to get the message.

"Whoa, what the heck, you guys can't have a group hug without the group," Scott complained and joined them. Pepper watched with a slightly amused smile on her face as the team surrounded the crying teen.

"Hey, everyone," she distracted them and held up the baby boy slightly. "We still gotta name this little guy."

The team cooed at the sleeping puddle, including Peter, who stepped forward to play with his chubby little hand. How could anyone hate something so adorable?

Tony dropped an arm on Peter's shoulders without releasing Pepper's hand. "Sorry we didn't tell you earlier, kiddo. I just wanted it to be a surprise."

"No, I should be apologizing," the teen lowered his head and his grin as the team giggled at the baby. "I was just overoverreacting. I'm sorry I kind of ruined it for you and Pepper."

"Hey, don't worry about it. I probably should have been paying better attention."

"Yeah, but–"

Tony stopped him. "Pete, we could do this all night. Do you want to help name your kid brother or not?"

"Yay!" Peter's face brightened dramatically.

"What about Thomas? Tom, I guess," Rhodey offered.

Tony rolled his eyes. "So simple."

"Dave?" Clint poked the baby.

"Ew and stop that."

"Tony Jr. Heh, TJ."

"Uhhhh Harley."

"Marcus?"

"Joe. Bob. Joebob. Billybob Joebob Harris."

"James?"

"Pietro?"

"Peter Jr!"

"No. Edward?"

"Bleh!"

"Jace."

"Cole?"

"Grant. Josiah."

"Tyler. Alex? Geomarko."

"Oh! Malaki."

Tony rubbed his temples and shouted. "Holy shi...oot. Can you all please shut up!"

Pepper's calm, thoughtful voice cut through the chaos of the room.

"What about Morgan?"

Everyone paused to see Tony's reaction. His first was one of skepticism. "Eh, really?"

Pepper glared at him palpably. "What, you don't like it?"

"No no no!" The billionaire quickly defended. "It's great, I love it!"

"Good," Pepper relaxed with a smirk and snuggled the waking bundle. "Hello Morgan."

Tony smiled at her and turned to Avengers to make a gagging gesture. Peter giggled.

"I think it's cute," he offered Pepper sincerely.

She squeezed his hand. "At least someone here appreciates me."

Tony's mouth fell open and the rest of the team laughed. Bucky doubles over and held onto Steve to support. Peter. Hugged the billionaire, turning his frown into a reluctant grin. He gripped the boy back and breathed into his fluffy hair.

"I love you dad."

"Love you too Pete. Always."
