Halloween 2
[Recap: it's Halloween (^obviously) and Flash dresses up as Spider-Man, announcing that he was his hero and MJ and Ned got defensive while Peter got an Avengers Alert in the middle of lecturing them...]
Peter stared down at his phone, indecisive. Should he go? Ditch class to see if the team needed help? Or stay because, well, they were the Avengers. Shouldn't they be able to handle it? Maybe he should just text Tony to see what was going on... Peter picked up the phone and had just opened his contact when a quick hand appeared and swiped it away, his spidey sense startling him enough to knock him out of his chair in the process.
The class laughed as he sheepishly looked up at the teacher. He stood glaring down at the star-fighter wannabe as he held the latest Stark phone Tony had given him a few weeks before.
"Mr. Parker," he gritted, steel in his voice. Unlike most of Peter's teachers, who loved him for being so compliant and model student, Mr. Roque had it out for him. He had been trying to prove Peter wasn't perfect all year and was constantly watching him for mistakes. Obviously he was proud of himself for catching the arachnid red handed.
"Texting in class?" He tisked. "I'm going to have to take your phone for the day Mr. Parker. You can get it on my desk after school and we will have a long discussion."
What? Wasn't that a little much for a first offense? Why did he hate Peter so much? What had he ever done to him?
"Sir-" he tried to argue.
"No excuses!" He held up a threatening finger. "Don't make me get your parents involved young man."
Peter's face twitched at the mention and MJ was on her feet, despite their earlier disagreement.
"Tyler had his phone out for the third time the other day and all he got was another warning!" She shoved a finger in a mousy haired kid's general direction.
The teacher nearly growled. "Ms. Jones, that is quite enough-"
"Back in black! Hit the sack! I've been too long, I'm glad to be back! Yes I'm let loose! From the noose! That's kept me hanging about-"
(A/n The lyrics are darker than I thought...)
Peter stared at his phone with a pale face along with the class, who winced sympathetically. Fick. Double fick. That was Tony calling. It must have been more important than he thought. But now the one teacher that hated him had his phone!
Mr. Roque sneered down at the screen. "Oh look at that, Tony Stark is calling. Who is he really?"
"It really is Mr. Stark!" Peter scrambled up and begged. "Please, it might be important!"
I already know it's important! He's called twice! Once with the fricking Avengers Alert!
"Then you wouldn't mind if I confirmed his identity?" The man glared at Peter and began to bring the phone up to his ear.
"Fine, just...hurry!" Anything to get his phone back fast. Tony would get a kick out of this anyways.
Roque smirked and accepted the call on speaker phone. Why did he have to be such a prick? Peter actually liked biology, but this guy was starting to ruin it for him. The entire class gathered around the phone in their costumes snickering, work papers forgotten. Peter resisted the urge to scoff. Then the billionaire started talking.
"Kid? Pete? Oh thank god you're okay, I need you to pick up your aunt and..."
Tony paused, having yet to hear the arachnid's usual immediate response.
"Kiddo, you there?"
"Tony Stark?" Mr. Roque asked smugly. "Is that you?"
"What? Of course it's me, you idiot! What have you done with Peter? Osborn, I swear if you've hurt him I will-"
"Mr. Stark!" Peter groaned. "This isn't a ransom call!"
Osborn? As in...Norman Osborn? The Green freaking Goblin? He had been in jail for two years! Unless Harry was planning on kidnapping him any time soon. Peter had thought they parted on okay terms though...
"Oh, hey kid, who's the grump with you then?"
The class giggled as Roque's face turned red.
"That's, uh," Peter cleared his throat awkwardly. "That's my biology teacher who doesn't believe you are actually Tony Stark."
Peter could practically hear his eye roll over the line. "Well, I was going to tell you to grab your aunt and swing - er - come to the Tower because...oh well, I'll tell you that part in a little bit. But now I'm just going to pick you up."
"Mr. Stark, please, you really don't have to-"
"It's no problem though, kid. We'll be there in a few."
Peter blanched. "What do you mean we-"
The call disconnected.
The entire class burst out laughing. Peter looked over at Ned helplessly while MJ studied him warily. She hadn't known he had direct ties with the Tony Stark, much less how close they were. He had a lot of explaining to do, for sure.
Peter swiped his phone back while Mr. Roque was staring at him coldly with a scarlet face, mouth opening and closing like a drowned fish. The class eventually went back to mingling, completely ignoring the work sheet at this point. It only took a few minutes for a knock on the door to rip everyone's attention back.
Mr. Roque only glared at the door, not wanting to be proved wrong. Ned stood and swung the door open to see none other than Tony Stark himself, sunglasses, suit, arc reactor and all.
Ned gave him a shy smile, having met and hung out with the team before. Tony grinned and patted him on the shoulder before stepping out of the way to reveal the rest of the freaking Avengers at his school coming to prove that he really knew them oh my god. There were better ways to do this without scaring the heck out of his teacher!
"Peter," Steve stepped forward with his jaw clenched. "We have a problem and need to get you to safety."
Obviously Cap hadn't just come to show off.
"Safety?" You know perfectly well I can take can take care of myself, Peter sent through his eyes.
Please, Steve's eyes returned. Peter closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Fine."
Bucky winked at him and pulled him out of the room just as Tony started to chat Roque to death about misidentification and to quit picking on Peter. Ned waved to him and MJ watched a little suspiciously. It reminded Peter of something. He quickly gestures out into the hallway. MJ understood immediately and stood to follow him while Ned stumbled behind.
Out in the hall they were surrounded by a protective circle of Avengers glaring around every corner, as if they expected something - or someone - to jump out of the shadows and try to grab him. He attempted to ignore them as he reached into his bag.
"Remember my friend from Wakanda?" He asked while digging around the mess.
They both nodded. "Yeah, uh, Sidney or something?" Ned guessed.
"Shuri, yeah," he confirmed and brought up two detailed items. "When she found out we were dressing up as Star Wars characters, she got super excited and made some presents."
He handed a foot-long rod to MJ, who studied it curiously.
"It extends into Rey's staff," he explained quickly. "The button is right under the grip...here."
MJ pushes it with her thumb and with a metallic shink, the rod expanded into a full sized staff.
"It's made of vibranium, so it's super tough. Like Cap's shield tough," he flicked it experimentally.
MJ shooed them back and spun it around in expert moves, gracefully fitting in her hand. "Cool," she breathed, shrinking it again.
"Yeah," Peter grinned and held up the next one for Ned to see. It was an exact replica of Luke's lightsaber. When Peter said exact, he meant exact. "Ned, this is a real lightsaber. It cuts things up with a laser. Be careful with it."
Ned took it as if it were a baby kitten and cradled it soundly. "Good idea."
"We have to go Peter," Wanda told him sympathetically as Tony, Clint and Steve emerged from the classroom.
Peter nodded and reminded his friends to once again, be careful because those were real weapons. They agreed enthusiastically and told him to be safe from...whatever he needed protection from. Then he was dragged out of the school by a ring of protective super heroes.
He was led into a car that was surrounded by other super escorts, Tony sliding into the drivers seat alongside Vision. The rest of the team dispersed throughout the other two cars and they started the drive to his apartment, and aunt, in silence.
Finally Peter couldn't stand it.
"Mr. Stark, what is going on?"
The billionaire didn't answer. Peter sighed in exasperation. It was Halloween! He was going to hand out candy and maybe, possibly go trick or treating with Ned like a five year old before the big party that everyone was going to. Who wouldn't want free food? Now, though, his plans seemed to be canceled.
What did he need protection from? His mind flashed back to Tony over the phone at school...
"Does this have something to do with the Goblin?" He asked, suppressing a shiver.
Tony pursed his lips while Vision didn't react. "Midgate Prison had a breach...a lot of inmates escaped. Including Norman Osborn. I'm sorry Pete. We all know what's that psychopath's first priority will be."
Peter sat back heavily. Osborn had had it out for him and his son, Harry, for years before the arachnid barley beat him and kicked his butt into prison. He had nearly died that night. Just the thought of the Green Goblin still gave him nightmares.
"Oh."
