Guardians: Part 6

(Recap: An alien invasion has started, but the Guardians have come up with a plan to get rid of the hostiles, which includes Spiderman, Rocket and Groot sneaking aboard the ship. Will they succeed in their plan? I dunno. Seriously I'm improvising here.)

I should have brought a jacket.

Mostly because, that big badass alien warship? Had zero heaters. I was freezing my webs off on the side of it while carrying a raccoon on my back like Yoda and dragging an alien tree below me. Yep, just another day for your friendly neighborhood Spiderman.

"There!" I was pulled out of my thoughts by Rocket pointing to a hatch on the side of the ship. Rain and wind pummeled me as I crawled over to it.

Yoda the raccoon pulled a drill of some sort from his backpack and told me to move my baby face. I rolled my eyes, but did as he said. A few minutes later, a sheet of metal ripped off the ship and plummeted down to the city below.

Rocket shouted close to my ear so he could be heard over the wind. "Let's go!"

I boosted him through the hole first. He gripped the edges and disappeared to the inside. Next I pulled Groot up and he dived in the opening. I followed them last, barely able to squeeze through the small vent myself.

I fell into a dark hallway, left arm twisting at a wrong angle as I hit the ground.

"Ow," I sat up. "That's gonna be sore in the morning."

"Get up kid," Rocket barked. I jumped in surprise, just now making out his shadow in the dim light. "We got work ta do."

Apparently he had been able to pry away Groot's video game, because the glowing screen was nowhere in sight. Rocket lead to way down the hall to the right, like it had shown in the schematics. I couldn't see twenty feet in front of me, unlike the super raccoon.

"Karen," I whispered. "Turn on night vision."

"Sure, Peter."

My vision turned a ghostly green. I guess the Chiss didn't need lights when they had those cool exoskeletons to see for them.

The second thing I noticed was the silence. It was a stark contrast to the howling rain and thunder outside. Dark, quiet places freaked me out. You never knew if something would jump out at you. I shivered just thinking about killer robot launching from the shadows.

We crept down the hall as quietly as possible. Every time something metal shifted in Rocket's backpack, I winced, sure the exos would hear it and come after us. It didn't take long until one did.

We turned a corner, surprised to say the least, when we cams face to face with an eight foot tall metal robot, glowing blue eyes and all.

It immediately dived for us. Rocket and Groot rolled to the right while I jumped for the left wall. The exo turned to me and charged, apparently not have weapons on him. It's hands reached out to grab me, but I quickly webbed them together in a cocoon. The exo seemed mildly surprised for about two seconds. Then Rocket blasted its head off.

"Whoa!" I shouted and jumped away. "Thanks for the warning! What gun is that?"

Rocket looked at me in disbelief. "The laser one. Now, come on! The core is just around the next corner."

He activated his jet pack and blasted off impatiently.

What? I thought and hurried to swing it down the tall hallway after him. Since when does he have a jet pack?

My com crackled to life, nearly making me fall from the air.

"They're putting troops on the ground!" I recognized the voice as Sam.

Gamora answered him quickly. "This is stage two. They'll try to round everyone up for stage three. We have to defend the people!"

"Seconded." That was definitely Steve. "Avengers, lets get down there!"

There was a chorus of affirmatives followed by the sounds of battles. I heard the distinct sound of weird blasters, so they must have weapons of some sort.

"There's so many," Wanda's voice was distraught. "We can't keep this up for long."

"Kid!" Wow, it was good to hear Tony's voice. It took me a second to realize he was talking to me.

"I'm here!" I whispered as I followed Rocket around another corner.

Tony audibly sighed, as if he didn't want me to be there. "How are you doing with the core?"

"Almost there," I assured him right before tripping over Rocket. I hadn't realized he had stopped.

"What?" I looked at him, then looked up to see the reason for his pause.

There was a big door, two stories tall, a faint glow coming from the cracks. The core room was on the other side of that door. Unfortunately, the door was on the other side of that wall of exos.

All their glowing eyes locked on us.

"Well, crap," I breathed out when they hefted their long, skinny blasters towards the raccoon and I.

Oh my god that's sounds like a soap opera. The Raccoon and I, I thought randomly. Then I sighed to myself. Really Parker? Now?

"What? What's wrong?" Tony asked worriedly.

"Nothing!" I jumped up onto the ceiling as they started shooting. So much for undercover. "Everything's fine!"

Three raised their guns to me. I webbed one in the back and threw it against another, knocking them both down. The third got a few shots on, but missed all of them, instead leavening scorch marks on the ceiling. I dropped down onto its shoulders. I noticed Rocket melting and and blowing up exos professionally. Groot has finally come to join us, smashing robots against the wall and destroying their circuitry. I grinned under my mask at the duo. They were so cool!

The exo I was on reached up in an attempt to grab me. I webbed it's eyes so that it stumbled around blindly.

"Oh, sorry," I smirk and jump off it. "I seemed to have gotten webs all over your incredibly ugly face!"

I wasn't sure if they could understand English or not, but quips made me feel better. I tripped the exo and webbed him to the ground, just as another two charged. I took them down no problem, but they distracted me from the robot who had decided to flank me.

Hot, stabbing pain took my right shoulder. I yelled in pain and stumbled forward. Rocket glanced over from where he was knocking over the last of the exos and his raccoon eyes widened.

"Spider!" He ran and jumped over me, shooting at something. The heavy thud of an exo hitting the ground was the only clue I needed.

I hadn't realized I was on my knees until I was eye to eye with my very own worried looking furry Yoda.

"You okay, kid?" He shook my shoulders, avoiding the pained area.

"Y-Yeah," I struggled to my feet. "Yep, I'm good. I'm fine. Let's just finish this."

He nodded his approval and motioned for Groot to take care of the door. The tree pried off the electrical panel that was meant for typing in codes. He let his roots travel a way through the wires before ripping them all out in a single movement.

There was a long beep and the door opened.

"Sam, I need some air support!"

"I'm a little tied up here, Cap!"

"Guys I'm almost out of arrows!"

"Vis, there's a group over there that needs to be taken out!"

"I will not be able to get there."

"Buck, hang on, I'm almost there!"

"Arrgh, shit!"

"Rhodey, incoming!"

"Nat?"

"I'm-I'm okay, Clint. Just do yo-your job."

"Ahh! Godamnit!"

"Thor, look out for that canon!"

"Holy shit, what the hell was that? It just took out the Hulk!"

I couldn't stand hearing them getting beat up. They were supposed to be invincible. Now I was their only hope. Me, Yoda and and a tree.

"Let's go kid!" Rocket waved me into the room. I sprinted in beside him, Groot following.

The room was massive. The whole thing was shaped like a sphere, a big glowing blue circle in the center. It was suspended in the middle of the hollow room, a single ramp leading to and around it.

"That's stage three. Rocket, you have to blow it NOW!"

The power from the core was wafting over us as we attempted  to crosss the ramp. It seemed to be trying to push us away. Rocket dropped to his knees, body not powerful enough to take it.

"Here!" He shouted and painfully handed me a device twice as big as my hand. "Orange button! Then run like hell!"

I nodded and me and Groot pushed on against the invisible force. It got stronger and strong the closer we got. Groot wrapped an arm around me and helped me through the jello barrier. By the time I reached the glowing metal center, I was only holding on thanks to my powers, crawling along to catwalk. Groot had to stop a few meters back.

I crawled over to the core, heat and power radiating off of it. The gadget Rocket has given me stuck to it as soon as I held it up. I gasped for breath. The oxygen there was thin and scolding hot. It was hard to breathe at all.

Come on, Parker! I demanded glaring at the orange button. You can do this. The world depends on it!

The entire world.

I reached up slowly, the power jello making it hard. My sight was blurring in and out. Which one was it again? Where did the orange one go? It was there a second ago.

I tried to focus. There. The middle one.

I could still hear my teammates yelling in my ear. I think Nat was hurt and Clint was definitely defenseless. Bucky got caught. The Hulk was unconscious. Steve got shot and Rhodey was missing. It was going to hell out there.

I pushed the button.

I half expected a voice (or Karen) to announce: World saved. Mission complete. Instead I remembered Rocket telling me to run hard when I finished. So I stumbled down the ramp, the core's power egging me on. I grabbed Groot's arm on the way and threw Rocket's half conscious body over my shoulder. Me and the tree ran shakily out into the hallway. I groaned when I saw half an army of exos waiting for us.

"We don't have time for this!" I shouted angrily as I leaped above them and bounced from head to head.

The confused exos tried to catch my ankles, but my spidey sense warned me every time. Groot stretched his arms out and shoved them all to either side in one movement. They all slumped to the ground by the walls. I raised both my eyebrows in surprise.

He shrugged. "I am Groot."

"Yes," I grinned. "Yes you are."

We sprinted through the maze of halls, finding our hole after back tracking three times. Our five minute window was nearly up.

Groot reaches out and made the hole wider, subtly not needed any more. I was really glad the alien tree had come with us, because he was freaking awesome. He nodded for me to go through.

I shook my head. "You first! Then you can catch him."

I motioned to Rocket on my shoulder and Groot nodded. He dove through the hole head first, fading into the clouds and rain. There was lightning now, probably having something to do with Thor. I yelled for Groot to get ready, not knowing if he could even see me. But I trusted that he would catch his best friend. I carefully tossed the raccoon's limp body out of the rip.

A few seconds later an explosion rocked the ship. My feet were knocked out from below me and I was crashing to the ground. My head spun as I banged it on the wall.

"I hate Parker luck," I grumbled.

At least the bomb was worth it. The Avengers on the ground had stopped fighting and sounded confused.

"They stopped?"

"No, they shut down. Peter did it!"

The team cheered.

"Wanda, can you get that ugly thing out of our atmosphere?"

Uh oh.

"Yes. Vis, can you get me to the top of the Tower?"

"On my way, Wanda."

Crap.

Have I mentioned how much I hate Parker luck?

Oh my god why is this so long? I'm sorry guys I'm just getting into it I guess. But the next one will be the last one I promise on my life and Peter's life, okay? Again, I'm sorry. Unless you like the longer ones then you're welcome. Sorry. Ugh.
