Accidents: Part 2

(Recap: Oof, Peter accidentally killed a guy when saving a woman's life. He's never killed before. It was horrid. How's he going to deal with it? Find out in today's issue...)

"Hey FRIDAY," Tony called out, the screwdriver that was in his mouth muffling his speech as he concentrated on tinkering with his suit. "What's Spiderman been up to lately?"

"Would you like the most recent news?"

Tony rolled his eyes. What did the AI think 'lately' meant? "Yes, FRI."

"The top three news articles including Spiderman are:
Spiderman: The Small Town Hero;
Large Apartment Fire Has No Casualties Thanks To Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman;
Bank Robber Escapes Due To Spiderman Involvement.
They were all dated yesterday."

Tony smiled fondly upon hearing the first two, but his expression dropped dramatically when he heard the last one. That wasn't right, Peter never let easy guys like that get away. Unless he was hurt. But, then again, Karen was programmed to call if he got injured too badly, right? Maybe he had tripped. Tony chuckled, thinking about the last time the teen had made that excuse. The thing was, Tony had totally believed him because it had been such a Peter thing to do.

I should check in anyways, Tony decided.

"FRIDAY, call Peter Parker."

Tony turned to a screen and swiped everything away so that he can kid FaceTime the kid. The phone rang for a few seconds longer then it normally did when he called the boy, but he eventually picked up.

"Did you need something, Mr. Stark?" Peter asked tiredly with a bit of nervousness.

What no enthusiastic, 'Hi mR. StArk!'? Tony wasn't a minute into the conversation and he was already worried. That mixed with the exhausted and guilty look weighing down the kid's face and the bags under his eyes.

"Hey kid," Tony furrowed his brows. "I was just checking up on you. Are you too busy?"

"Um, no," Peter admitted. He was currently walking home because his aunt had to work late. Again.

Tony snorted. "Then I'm sure you can spare a minutes to talk to me. How's Spiderman?"

He paled noticeably. "W-what do you mean?"

"I don't know," Tony raised an eyebrow at his reaction. "Anything interesting happen?"

"Uh, n-nope not really," he stuttered nervously before glancing at his bare wrist. "Oh, look at the time, I have to be getting home, Mr. Stark, or my aunt'll be worried. I'll call you back later!"

"Peter you don't even have a–" The call disconnected before Tony could point out the fact that he wasn't even wearing a watch. He groaned in annoyance. Teenagers.

Arms wrapped around his waist gently, surprising him.

"What was that about?" Steve asked in confusion and placed his chin on Tony's shoulder.

"I don't even know," Tony shrugged. "I'm worried about him though."

"Relax," Steve pecked his cheek. "He'll be okay. Peter's a good kid. A smart kid."

"I know," Tony sighed. "That doesn't stop me from wondering if he got lunch today or not, or whether he had time to study for his Spanish test."

"How about a deal," the super soldier declared. "If you actually come upstairs and eat dinner with the team, Peter can come over tomorrow and the weekend."

"He comes over almost every weekend," Tony pointed out.

"Exactly," Steve smiled. "Just come eat."

"Okay, okay, fine," Tony rolled his eyes as Steve grinned victoriously and dragged him out of the room, Peter's strange behavior still on his mind.

—————————-

It had been three days since the accident. Peter wasn't sleeping or eating. School was a nightmare. His friends wouldn't stop pestering him about going to bed at night and staying up too late as Spiderman. But in truth, he hadn't been Spiderman since that had happened, either. Teachers constantly snapped at him for zoning out. Flash had taken one look at him, snorted, and strutted away muttering something out self-destruction being the worst destruction. Peter, unfortunately, agreed with him.

He still couldn't believe Mr. Stark had picked that week to check up on him. It had only been two and a half weeks since he last saw him. He had nearly given everything away right there, too. The guilt was weighing down on him so much he could hardly jog to school in the morning.

He got home and flopped on his bed, groaning in exhaustion. Maybe if he just closed his eyes for a few minutes...

–they immediately snapped open again. Every time he tried that he saw the man's face. Ugh. Peter felt like the man was literally haunting him. Maybe he is, Peter reasoned. You were the one that killed him, after all...

He pleaded for his brain to think about something else and clicked on the TV. Nothing good was on, and he couldn't watch any action movies without flashbacks happening, so he turned on a soap opera. It was horrible. So he watched it for the rest of the night. He actually got into it at one point and stole a box of tissues from the kitchen.

His aunt was very confused when she got home, seeing the teenage hero on the couch crying and telling characters that they were just being dramatic instead of saving people's lives. She shrugged it off, though. Even superheroes needed breaks sometimes, right?

He fell asleep that way, curled up on the couch around the empty box of tissues.

Peter woke up with a stiff neck and s clogged nose. He looked around in confusion until he spotted the clock. 4:20. Why did he wake up at 4:20? His question was answered a few seconds later when his phone buzzed again. He picked it up groggily to see it was Tony Stark. Oh crap, twice in two day? Did he find out? Oh no I'm going to jail!

He accepted the call anyways.

"Yeah, Mr. Stark?" He tried to sound as calm as possible, though his voice still quivered.

"Hey kid," the billionaire answered warily. "Happy's gonna pick you up from school today, so you don't have to walk home."

"Oh, he is?" Peter asked in surprise.

"Yup," Tony threw out casually. "Don't worry we'll have you back in Queens for school tomorrow."

"Wait, really?" He got to go see the team early this week? Score!

Tony snorted. "Of course, really. I'll see you then kid, alright?"

"Okay, Mr. Stark!" Peter replied, some old enthusiasm resurfacing.

Tony chuckled on the other end then hung up. Peter was bouncing with excitement in the mean time. He hadn't talked to them in a while, after all. He couldn't wait to see–

Oh no. What if they found out? He wilted again. They were Earth's Mightiest Heroes, after all. They had the best chance of prying it out of him, especially since he wanted to tell them. He wanted to get this heavy weight off his chest. But what if it backfired on him? What if they were disgusted?

Peter didn't know what to do.

Hehehe I bet you didn't expect the Stony, did you. Bwahaha! I'm just trying to add some ships in here, even though I don't really ship anyone in the Marvel universe except for like, Tony and Pepper, Gamora and Peter, and MJ and Peter. (Vision and Wanda are meh.)
Anyways I'm tired of these long annoying author notes so I'll see you web heads later. Ciao!
