SUNSHINE BOX II
IMAGINE !
o. PETER TRIES TO CHEER YOU UP AFTER YOU CATCH A COLD . . .
━━ 🕸️ ━━
Your eyelids peeled open as you quietly awoke from the short nap you had fallen into. Most of the day, you had worked on pieces of homework that your teachers were able to send online while your favourite movies played in the background. Although you didn't want to work on the papers, you had no intentions of doing them over the weekend.
Raising your arms out of the comforter, you stretched your muscles as you searched for the nearby clock. It was only half past two. Sleep was beginning to call your name again, but you knew that Peter would be returning any minute, so you kept yourself awake.
Just as you had suspected, the distant jingling of the extra apartment keys rang through the foyer of your apartment. You simply didn't have the energy to make yourself look presentable or even move from the sleepy spot you were in - despite your body being tangled in numerous blankets. Besides, you and Peter had seen each other in much worse states than being sick.
"I'm back and I've got your papers for you!" Peter's cheerful voice traveled through the kitchen and proceeded to get closer to your room.
You immediately smiled, rolling your body over so that you were now facing the door. Peter smiled upon seeing you. Although you were sick, he couldn't help but admire how beautiful you looked. Shaking his thoughts away, he set down a bag from Mr. Delmar's shop on your desk before walking over to where you were laying.
"How are you feeling? Any better?" His voice was extremely delicate and soft. Peter brought his hand up to your forehead, feeling for any trace of a possible fever. With your luck, there sure was heat radiating off of your body, let alone forehead. It wasn't pleasant either. One minute, your body was in an ice bath and the other, your body was taking a dip in a pool of lava.
You shook your head, cuddling closer to the stuffed animal that had been in your arms all day. In fact, the plush was one that Peter had gotten you last Valentine's Day. "I feel like I'm dying! This gloomy weather isn't helping either."
Peter shrugged off his backpack, his books hitting the ground with a large thump. He mentally apologized to the downstairs neighbor for the sound. He held up his finger as he backed out of your room, wanting you to give him a second. You had no idea what he was doing, but it was semi-startling watching him slowly disappearing into the hallway.
You cautiously sat up, not wanting to make yourself sick with too much motion. Grabbing the stack of papers lying at the end of your bed, you took a second to groan at the amount of work that you would have to make up. Thankfully it was Friday, which meant you had the weekend to catch up - despite not wanting to do so. Geometry, physics and history papers never looked more intimidating until now.
There was a faint noise of shuffling coming from the hallway, yet you paid no attention to it. Swapping the papers for the remote sitting on your bedside table, you quickly flicked on the television in search of something to watch while Peter did - whatever he was doing. It took you a few seconds to scavenge through the channels to find a show that fit your liking.
Peter, on the other hand, was attempting to make his get-well gift look more presentable than just being thrown into a box. Before he had arrived at your apartment, he took the last of his money to buy your favourite food, DVDs, and everything in between. Frankly, he didn't mind being broke for a few days if it meant making you happy. After all, he remembered how you showed him the viral admiration gift on social media - and that was months ago.
He called his creation a sunshine box, considering that most of the stuff was in yellow boxes or, at least, had a little yellow note on it. Making the last few adjustments to the setup, he proudly nodded at his final job. In no time, he was traveling back to your room.
Peter plopped the box down at the foot of your bed, a smile erupting on his face in both admiration and anticipation. "I, uh, got this for you," He trailed off. Pepper had helped him prepare for the pressure of admitting his feelings towards you, and he felt more than ready to ask you on a date.
"What's this?" You questioned. Quietly shuffling towards the box, you noticed an abundance of your favourite things piled up to the brim. You felt your heart beginning to melt at the amount of care that he had put into his gift. "You made this for me? Peter, this is the sweetest thing someone's ever done for me. Thank you."
He was tongue-tied, to say the least - the only thing he was currently capable of doing was awkwardly smiling at you.
"You alright there, Pete?" You had already opened a box of your favourite candy and were almost finished with it.
"I like you. A lot." He blurted out.
Peter watched as you froze after the last word slid past his lips. Although he had prepared for the confession, he wasn't ready to face rejection, which he was fearing was at a high chance with the way you were acting.
Locking eyes with him, you raised your eyebrows in disbelief. There was no way that this was the reality - that the guy you had liked for years was actually admitting his feelings for you. It just had to be a dream. "I like you too, but like, are you messing with me? Please don't say sike!"
He chuckled, tucking a stray piece of your hair behind your ear. "Y/n, you mean the world to me! I promise that I'm not messing with you." Peter kept his hand on the side of your face, thumb gently caressing your cheek with care.
You began to lean into his touch, making Peter's heart start to beat faster. He'd never had his first kiss, and he was both excited and nervous. However, before your lips could touch his, you distanced yourself.
"I really want to kiss you, but I don't want to get you sick." You explained, a pout appearing on your lips.
He understood. With how you told him you were feeling, he surely didn't want to be put on bedrest and miss out on protecting the city. Instead, he delicately pressed a kiss to your forehead as if you were made of glass.
"How about we watch a movie and work on homework? That way I can have an excuse to stay over again." Peter smiled, engulfing you in a warm embrace. "Sleep sounds like a good idea too."
