o. SPRING FLING WITH PETER DOESN'T
GO AS YOU HOPED . . .

Math homework was the only thing that kept you sane when you were at lunch, trying to keep your mind away from Peter Parker as much as possible. During your ninth-grade year, you started to develop some type of feelings for him. It was entirely cliche - in your opinion - to have a crush on your best friend; but it somehow happened.
"Did you hear about Peter and Liz?" MJ asked, setting her lunch tray on the table. You closed your math book, giving her a confused look. The last you heard about Peter and Liz was homecoming, and then you never heard their names together again.
MJ gave you a sympathetic look, feeling horrible that she was the one to give you the news. "She asked him to spring fling," your face fell, hopes and heart shattering into hundreds of pieces. "Which I think is complete and udder bullshit. I'm sorry, y/n."
Shrugging, you looked over to what was called the 'popular table,' something that you didn't believe one-hundred-percent. Peter was laughing over there, his arm around Liz. You slightly cringed, remembering that Liz was a good year and a half older than Peter. Ned came into view, and it looks could kill, Peter would be long gone by now.
"Hey, Peter's back on his haywire emotions again," Ned pointed out, sitting down next to MJ. You nodded, not really knowing how to think about what was going on. After all, you did have a large poster filled with puns carefully sitting on your bed. You quietly wondered how you were going to throw it out and get a refund on the sparkly letters you had bought. You took out your phone from your pencil case, trying to come up with the text that you were about to send to Peter.

hey, I have to cancel on studying tonight, something came up :/

Your jaw dropped a little bit. Usually, he would ask you what was wrong or if you could reschedule, but this time he didn't. MJ and Ned quickly took notice and grabbed your phone, gasping when they saw the reply he had sent you.
"Damn, that boy really is brainwashed," Ned exclaimed, taking a sip of the tea he had with his. You let out a little laugh when you realized he was actually sipping tea, this time, not metaphorically. You could see Peter look at you from the corner of your eye, you not caring about him at the moment, just focusing on your friends.

You finished your hair, which was done to your liking. Feeling a hundred times more confident, you smiled into the mirror, hardly even caring that the guy you liked was with another girl. The thing that was still on your mind was that Liz absolutely had no interest in Peter; she had made that clear during homecoming.
In fact, MJ and Ned knew this even before that dance. Liz was more focused on getting her grades up than the poor boy's heart she was breaking.
Your phone buzzed on your desk, completely scaring you out of your thoughts. The screen was lit up, indicating that MJ had sent you a message.
MJ (queen!)
hey y/n, we're outside whenever you're ready!
y/n
on my way!!
You quickly bid your goodbyes to your parents, shutting the front door behind you as MJ's car came into view. You thanked your past-self that the option of sneakers was in the running, swapping your heels for them.
"Hey!" You smiled, crawling into the backseat. MJ and Ned both waved from the front seat, both looking all put together and stunning.
The car ride was filled with jokes, puns, and some gossip. Although, they tried to keep Peter's name out of conversations, knowing that they didn't want to make you upset. Either way, you were bound to get ice cream after the dance. As soon as you all found a decent parking spot, you got out, already seeing the beautiful decorations in the gymnasium.
The people you merely knew were spitting out genuine compliments at the two of you, wondering if you did your hair and everything else the same. Nodding and smiling, the three of you made your way to the doors.
Your smile faded into nothing when your eyes connected with Peter's; who was standing at the door and staring at you. As much as you wanted to smile, you held yourself back. He hurt you and your friends - again. It took quite a long time for him to make it up to you all the first time, you wondered how long it would take before he made it up to you again. He did shut you out.
The song from one of your favorite bands, Calpurnia, filled the air around you. Smiling at the pastel accents placed around the room, Ned and MJ took you towards the rest of your friends, which happened to be the decathlon team. Peter tried to follow but got lost in the crowd that was dancing and scattered everywhere. As much as he wanted to have a stress-free night, he couldn't help but wonder;
What if he went with the wrong person?
