Chapter 11

[ New York ]

"That's right folks, Spider-Man, has gone missing for the second time—this week! You'd think that menace would stay at home; especially if his trial is on Saturday! But he isn't, and now he's wandering around in the streets of New York!" Jameson reported, flipping through his notes. "And because I'm a truthful reporter, I'll give a hundred dollars to whoever brings Spider-Man to my doorstep! Only a hundred dollars, you say? This is for New York! Imagine the justice and safety we'll feel once we capture that men—!"

Peter closed MJ's phone, giving her a chuckling look. MJ returned the favour, giving out a slight laugh. She placed her two hands under her chin, as Peter—in his Spider-Man suit without the mask—was walking back and forth with his glasses on.

"You know, you really shouldn't be listening to Jameson. I thought we're on the same side?" Peter joked, scanning the area. "And seriously, a hundred dollars?"

"What do you mean only? The 'justice and pride' is what makes it even." She sarcastically said, standing up. "Are you sure they're there?"

"E.D.I.T.H." Peter called, as a virtual map appeared before them. It traced the sand all the way there. "I'm hoping the tracking device Mr. Stark put in here is accurate enough."

MJ crossed her hands together. She wasn't sure of this. He was going to be walking into an unknown location—and she wasn't going to be able to do anything if something happens. She was powerless. The only thing she could do was talk him down.

But it didn't work in the Sanctum; she wasn't sure if it was going to work here. Looking at him from her view, he really was just trying to do the right thing. He wanted to let the city know that he wasn't a murderer and a criminal—he's a hero. She still worries about one thing: that he'll forget the difference between Spider-Man and Peter Parker.

"Peter, do you really think you should be doing this?" MJ questioned again, standing beside him now. "You don't know what to expect."

"I 'kinda do." He confidently said. "I'm expecting all five of them there. Besides, I made this suit to withstand a lot of punches."

"That suit is five days old."

"And it gets the job done!" He added, smiling at her. "You're going to be safe here, right?"

"Peter, this isn't about me. You're going into God knows where fighting God knows what, and who knows what will happen?" She blurted, sighing. "You should really think things through."

"I did, MJ... I really did. I'd rather sacrifice getting arrested tomorrow if it means these guys are getting sent back into wherever they came from. It's better than living in a world where all of you are in danger of these people."

"And how do you think we can help with that?"

"I mean, you're here, right?"

"Ugh..." MJ rolled her eyes, approaching the rock again and seating on it.

Peter knew that was the wrong answer. Sometimes, it just comes out of him. He walked over and kneeled in front of her.

"Okay... I know what I said was stupid."

"Yeah, it really was." She included.

"But, you get what I'm saying..."

"No, Peter. I don't."

Peter held her hand as she looked down. She didn't want him to go, and he needed to let her understand that he had to do this. Firming his grip with her hand, he locked eyes with her.

"I'm Spider-Man... and I need to do this. I'm doing this for Ned... and because no one else will." He stated, "If there was someone else who could do this, I'd let them do it."

"Then wait for someone to."

"No, there's no time." He stood back up and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Well, see you later then."

"Peter..." She stood up as well, walking over to the edge of the hill. "Don't do anything stupid."

Peter chuckled. He handed over his glasses, which MJ took curiously. He ushered her to try it—and she did. It seemed like plain glasses that wasn't too different from the ones Peter wore back then.

"E.D.I.T.H, share access with Michelle Jones." Peter requested.

"Hello, Michelle. I am E.D.I.T.H, Tony Stark's Augmented Reality Security and Defense System." E.D.I.T.H. echoed into MJ's ears.

"When danger starts coming, you tell E.D.I.T.H. what to do, alright?" Peter shot a web for swinging as he spoke. "Got it, alright. Bye~!"

MJ didn't even have time to say anything back. Maybe he'll stay safe; who knows with a guy like Peter Parker.

"So, what can you do?"

"Well, I can do many things, Michelle." E.D.I.T.H. explained. "Would you like to see Peter's search history?"

"WAH~?!"

...

Peter swung near to the entrance of the tunnel. The flowing water was coming out, as there was a faint red light coming from inside. Taking initiative, he went in without fear. There was an uneasy aura and feel as he walked through. This was definitely the definition of a villain's lair.

This was it. This fight was going to be him alone. No more help, no one else. It was just Spider-Man.

Hearing the echo of dropping water, Peter approached slowly. His Peter-Tingle wasn't going off yet, so it was a good sign. It was only the sound of rushing water that filled his mind. Besides the red flares that were placed under the water, it was hard to see anything. He felt a little stupid not adding a night-vision feature to the suit.

As he continued, he stumbled upon a large room that was opened to the side of the tunnel. There were tables and chairs scattered all over the place, with a lot of objects placed on top. There were large batteries, blueprints, layouts, etc. It looked like they were building a new science facility with it.

—No... they were creating something much worse.

"Looking for something, Spider?"

Peter turned around quickly, acknowledging the man wearing the same yellow jacket as before. He knew that this man's ability was related to electricity, as his other suit that was broken was too overcharged when he inspected it again.

"I'm looking for Mr. Osborn... and you too, I guess." He responded, clenching his fists. "You hurt my friend... so that me—"

"Means what? That justifies you hunting and trying to kill us?"

"I—I wasn't finished."

"Nah, that's not how it works. You think you're justice? You think you can decide our fate? Because you're the one who 'accidentally' brought us here?" Dillon shook his head. "You think you're a hero? You're just someone trying to do things that you think are right. Do you know how many people live in fear when they see you? Because only trouble comes."

"You don't have the right to say that. You aren't me!"

"Oh, yeah?! And what about the Spider-Man in my universe, hm? Just because he's loved by everyone, he can KILL me?!"

"I'm not him. The Spider-Man here is different from yours."

"You see, I don't believe that. You're still both Spider-Man." He walked towards him, which Peter didn't notice. "The things that happened to you before you were Spider-Man, doesn't justify you wearing that mask every single day. Purpose? To put fear in others? Or is it because you 'have to look after the little guy,' hm?"

"Y... you don't know who I am."

"I know who you are—you're Peter Parker. A miserable teenager that's trying to be in the spotlight without letting yourself be in it. Keep on trying to impress, Parker, you'll end up continuing to lie to yoursel—"

"YOU DON'T KNOW WHO I AM!" He slammed his hand on the table. Dillon didn't even flinch.

"That ain't for you to decide, Parker."

"You're just trying to play mind games with me..."

"Oh, trust me; if I was, Beck would've been here." Dillon's hands began to emit electricity. "Besides, I asked Osborn to give the both of us some time. 'Kinda feels great to have Osborn on your side, because he gives—

—a little bit of something to everybody; and that something is kicking your ass."

Dillon sent a bolt of electricity to Peter's chest, sending him to the wall. Before Peter could even spot him again, he was gone. Only the place, that was now being lit up by electricity, was the thing he was aware about.

"Do you know how many years I've been waiting, Parker?!" Dillon came from behind, dealing an electric shockwave that sent Peter to the water. "Just so that I could have a piece of you?! And here I am!"

Placing a foot into the running water, it shocked Peter's suit once more. It was to the point that it was overcharging again, even if he had upgraded his suit to prevent that.

Error. Error. Error: 3871%

That was how overcharged Peter's suit was. Since he did not have anywhere to distribute this electricity, other systems were malfunctioning—namely, his vision.

There were too many flashing warnings on his screen that it made it hard to see what was going on. Only the vision of a man standing over him, enjoying the pain he was enduring, was all he could see.

"I WANT YOU TO BEG!" He shouted, grabbing him out of the water and tossing him further outwards.

Peter saw where the exit was—it was in his sight. Before Dillon could get another beating on him, Peter shot a web and pulled himself out of the tunnel.

Falling to the ground, he coughed profusely. It was like he couldn't breath. With that much electricity entering his suit, it was going to be hard to maintain his equipment.

Looking into the mouth of the tunnel and expecting Dillon to come out, it came to a surprise when a voice came from behind. It was Dillon, floating in the air and extracting electricity from the transmission tower behind him, "I ain't done with you, itsy-bitsy!"

Peter tried to shoot another web, but his equipment was faulting. His web shooters were beginning to fry to the result of the overcharging. Running backwards, Peter needed to let his system cool down and dodge any incoming electricity.

"WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING, PARKER?!" Dillon shouted in amusement, sending a bolt of lightning to Peter.

Peter fell back, as a strong blast of electricity caused an explosion in the ground. Dillon continued to follow him closely.

When an opening appeared, Dillon rushed to his side and tried to land a punch. Being much quicker, Peter dodged it and laid his hand on front of him. Crushing his web shooters, multiple webs exploded from it and attached everywhere. Getting onto Dillon's jacket, he was defenseless.

It one quick pull, everything the webs got—from trees, dirt, and Dillon—got sent into one direction. Once Dillon got close, Peter engaged in a hand-to-hand fight. He began fighting using kicks and acrobatics, a technique Dillon wasn't able to catch up with.

Peter didn't have any more webs, and he was saving the his other web shooters. He needed to weaken Dillon before he could get out of there. Continuing to put a chain of punches from all sides, Dillon was beginning to stand on one foot.

As Peter jumped at him from behind, he suddenly teleported behind him, sending a punch to his back.

The shockwaves overcharged his suit to the point that he had no vision. He removed his mask, revealing his bloody face to Dillon. The Electric Man laughed in his face, seeing the work he had produced.

"Had enough, little Spider? Want some more, huh?!" His hands began charging with electricity.

Seeing an exit to his side in the form of another tunnel to his side that was locked by bars, Peter needed to open it and get out of there. As Dillon readied his fist, Peter destroyed his other web shooter and got it onto his face. Grabbing one of the webs, he redirected it to the tunnel and began pulling himself in.

Peter landed to the side of it and began trying to break the bars. As he tried to bend it, an entire charge of electricity sent him into it, sending him inside and got hit on the head on the side of the wall. He was then pulled by the water, carrying him into one direction.

Dillon peeked inside the tunnel, seeing three directions in where the water parted. He gritted his teeth, losing Peter into the darkness. Turning around, Marko and Osborn—in their casual outfits—were looking right at him. Osborn looked dissatisfied, as Dillon passed by him.

"You didn't kill him." Osborn noted.

"I know that." Dillon walked up the hill.

"Then you also know what happens tomorrow right?" Osborn reminded, staring at him. "You're on the bench tomorrow, Dillon. You're taking my role."

"I don't give a damn!"

Marko looked at him, who look frustrated. "What's the plan tomorrow, Osborn?"

"Octavius and I..." He glanced at him with violent intent. "We'll kill Peter Parker tomorrow—where he won't expect it."

...

The sound of the beach was calming. The sea breeze was coming in wonderfully, feeling the peacefulness of the scene. The softness of the sand mushed in his hands easily, providing a sensation.

What was happening? He couldn't remember anything. The memories from earlier were all blurry to him. Was he still in the suit? Was he still alive?

"PETER! PETER!" MJ rushed to his side, checking him. She wiped the blood off his face as he could barely react. "You're in shock... PETER! Why; I told you to not get too into it."

"M... J..." Peter held her hand. "I'm sorry..."

"Don't you dare, I swear to God." She hugged him, sinking his head into the sand. "I'm not going to forgive you if—"

"I won't MJ... I just..." Peter began fainting, "close my eyes."

"PETER!"
