Chapter 3: Another Peter Parker?

"Our hero, Spider-Man, is gone. My husband, Peter Parker, was an ordinary person. He always said it could've been anyone behind the mask. He was just the kid who happened to get bit." MJ said to the large crowd of people that were gathered around city hall. I was standing next to May as MJ took to the podium, giving a speech about Pete. I looked out to the crowd and saw hundreds of people wearing Spider-Man masks and I couldn't help but feel proud for Peter.

All these people cared about him, and loved him. They didn't care that some people were against Peter being a vigilante, they just felt safe when he was around. But now that he's gone, who's gonna protect them? Protect us?

"He didn't ask for his powers, but he chose to be Spider-Man. My favorite thing about Peter is that he made us each feel powerful. We all have powers of one kind or another. Of the dark...But in our own way. We are all Spider-Man. And we're all counting on you." MJ said to the crowd and I wipe some oncoming tears with the back of my hand as she walks away from the podium and they began to wrap up the eulogy.

That night, I was sitting in my room, doing nothing but wallow in misery, when I looked over at my side table and stared at a photo. It was of me, MJ and Peter and it was taken after they adopted me. I was standing there, all smiles, holding up the certificate of adoption, meanwhile Peter and MJ were standing behind me, smiling as well.

I give a sad smile at this then I get up, grab my suit and put it on. I put my jacket over my suit, the mask in the pocket, and I start to walk out of the house. "I'm going for a walk, MJ." I called out to her. "Are you sure?" She asked me and I could tell she was alittle upset. "Yeah. I just....I just need to be alone." I said. "Okay. Call or text me and let me know where you are." She said and I nod as I walk out, shut the door, put the mask on and swing my way over to the cemetery.

I land in the snowy grounds of the cemetery and walk over to Pete's tombstone, which was surrounded by flowers, when I noticed someone was standing in front of the tomb. "I'm sorry, Mr. Parker. That thing you gave me, that key...I think I really messed it up." The voice said and I walk up to him. "Miles?" I said as I take my mask off. He turns to me then frowns. "What's wrong?" I asked him as I get closer to him.

He sighs then holds his hand out to me. I look down and see that the key, Peter gave him, was broken. I gasped then look up at him. "I'm so sorry, (y/n)." He said and I close my eyes and look down. "I wanna do what he asked. I really do. But I'm not sure I'm the guy. I can't do this without him." He said as I look over at Pete's grave for a moment then let out a heavy sigh before I look back at Miles, with determination. "Don't worry, Miles. You and I will figure this out. Together." I said as I take his hand in mine and hold it. He and I look at each other for a few moments then he gives me a weak smile. I smiled back at him until I heard footsteps behind me and Miles gasps then puts his mask back on.

"Hey, kids." A voice said just as I felt someone grab my shoulder. Miles grabs the hand on my shoulder and I turn my head, just in time to see that Miles just electrocute a guy. The guy gets thrown back just as I felt something attach to my arm. "Whoa!" I shout as I grabbed Miles' arm and we were yanked across a few feet in the cemetery and land in the snow. "What did I do to him?!" Miles asked as we get up. "I don't know. I've never seen that before" I said.

Then I look at my arm and saw a web was attached to me. I looked over and see the web was attached to the man, who was wearing a jacket and sweatpants. I also noticed that he had web shooters on his left wrist. "No." Miles whispered and I look over at him. "What? What is it?" I asked him. "He's...he's like me." Miles whispers as he walks up to the man. "What?" I asked as I walk up next to him. Miles kneels down and pulls back the jacket, revealing a Spider-Man suit. "Who are you?" Miles asked as I look at the man and gasped. "Miles....he looks like Peter." I said and both of us stare at him in shock.

All right, people, let's do this one last time.

My name is Peter B. Parker.

I was bitten by a radioactive spider. And for the last 22 years, I thought I was the one and only Spider-Man.

I'm pretty sure you know the rest.

You see, I saved the city, fell in love, I got married, saved the city some more, maybe too much. My marriage got testy, made some dicey money choices.
Don't invest in a spider-themed restaurant.

Then like 15 years passed.

Blah, blah, blah. Super boring.

I broke my back, a drone flew into my face, I buried Aunt May. My wife and I...split up. But I handled it like a champion.

'Cause, you know what, no matter how many times I get hit, I always get back up. And I got a lot of time to reflect and work on myself.

Did you know that seahorses mate for life? Could you imagine? A seahorse seeing another seahorse and then making it work?

She wanted kids and... And it scared me.
I'm pretty sure I broke her heart.

Flash-forward: I'm in my apartment doing push-ups, doing ab crunches, getting strong, when this weird thing happened.

And I gotta say, weird things happen to me a lot.

But this was real weird.

You see, I was in New York, but things were different.

Also, I was dead.

And blond.

I was kind of perfect.

It was like looking in a mirror.

I have a feeling that the thing that brought me here was the thing that got him killed. You wanna know what happened next?

Me, too.

"This is weird!" I said to Miles. "What are you doin' over there?" A voice shouts and I put my mask on, quickly, as we turn and see a couple of figures standing there with a bright light shining our way. "Freeze! P.D.N.Y." a commanding voice shouts. Miles and I raise our hands before we started to run. "Stop!" A female voice shouts and we ran but the web was still attached to me and it yanked me back.

"Are you kidding me right now?" I exclaimed as I get up and looked at the web. "Stop! Stop!" One of the officers shouts and Miles comes over to me and helps me up. "I gotcha. I gotcha." He whispers and we start to carry the man while also running from the cops. "Hey, kids. Drop the body." The officer shouts as I turn to Miles and said. "Push his web shooters."

"What?!" Miles asked as I raise my arm. "Do it!" I shout and be pushes the button on the man's web shooter just as I shoot mine and we began to swing away. "Whoa. See you, officers!" Miles shouts as we swing away from here. "Push the button again!" I said and he pushes it and the web attaches to a subway train.

"Not good!" I scream as the train pulls and drags us across the city. The Peter look-alike kept getting hit in the face with either street signs or the road. "Oh God!" I exclaimed as I try to web shoot at a building but we were going so fast, nothing would stick or attach. "Sorry, mister!" Miles said to him after we hit some cars.

Finally, the guy comes to. "Yes! We didn't kill you." Miles exclaims, relieved. "Who are you two?" The guy asked us. "Who are you?" I asked him as we fly across. "Why are you two trying to kill me?" The guy asked.
"We're not. We're trying to save you." Miles exclaims when we hit a street light then another car, a snow man until the train suddenly stopped. "Okay, okay." I whispered but before I could do anything, the web snapped and we landed on the ground. Miles falls on the road, surrounded by people, first then I fell on my back on top of him and the Peter look-a-like landed next to us.

"Sorry..." I said to Miles. "It's okay." He groans then he looks around at the crowd. "Hey, maybe you guys can go around?" Miles said and the people move. "Thanks, New York." I said, sarcastically.

Later, we tied up the Peter look-alike to a punching bag and we stood there in our costumes, waiting for him to wake up. Finally, he wakes up then gasps as he looks at Miles. "You're like me." He said. "We've got some questions." Miles said, making his voice deeper. The guy starts to struggle against the restraints but he couldn't and he starts to spin.

"Why do you look like Peter Parker?" I asked him as Miles and I push up our masks. "Because I am Peter Parker." He said after he spins back around to look at us. "Then why aren't you dead? And why is your hair different? Why are you older?" Miles asked him as I walk up to him. "And why is your body a different shape?" I asked.

"Pretty sure you just called me fat." He said, annoyed. "No! No, just..." I started to say as he spins around again then he spins back to look at us. "You two don't look so hot either, kids. Most superheroes don't wear their own merch." He sneers as he gestures to our costumes. "This is a training suit I'm wearing, thank you!" I exclaimed. "Oh is that what you call it?" He grumbles.

"Are you a ghost?" Miles asked him. "No." Parker replied.

"Are you a zombie?" I asked. "Stop it." He grumbles.

"Am I a zombie?" Miles asked. "You're not even close." Parker said.

"Are you from another dimension? Like a parallel universe where things are like this universe but different? And you're Spider-Man in that universe? But somehow traveled to this universe, but you don't know how?" I asked him. "Wow. That was really just a guess?" Parker asked us, impressed. "We learned about it in physics." I said. "Quantum theory." He mumbles.

"This is amazing! You can teach me like Peter said he would." Miles exclaimed and I smile. "And finish my training as well!" I said. "Before he died." Parker said. "Yeah. Exactly." Miles and I exclaimed. "Yeah, right." Parker mumbles. "Look, we made a promise to him." Miles said. "Here's lesson number one, kids. Don't watch the mouth. Watch the hands." Parker said as he spins around then holds up his hands as the restraints fall off of him.

Miles and I gasped at this before the punching bag was swung at us and both of us go flying and hit a door. "Well, I'm gonna feel that." I grumbled. "Peter, seriously..." Miles said, until a web hits him in the mouth. "Trust me, kids. This'll all make you a better Spider-Man." Parker said as he climbs out the window. But as he climbed out he started to spazz out, almost like he was a glitch in a game, then he falls down the fire escape.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked him as I run over to the window and Miles pulls off the web off of his mouth. "No, I'm not." He replied as he gets up. "What's going on with your body?" I asked him. "I don't think my atoms are real jazzed about being in the wrong dimension." He replied then he started to glitch out again and he screams out in pain.

"Look, I'm not looking for a side gig as a Spider-Man coach. I got a lot going on in my dimension." He said as he gets up and leans over the rails of fire escape. "With great power comes great..." Miles and I started to recite but Parker turns sharply at us and points. "Don't you two dare finish that sentence. Don't do it! I'm sick of it." He growls then he glitches again and falls but he grabs onto the fire escape.

"Want my advice? Go back to being regular kids." said Parker. "We don't have a choice!" I shout. "Kingpin's got a supercollider. He's tryin' to kill us." Miles said. "Wait a sec! What did you just say?" Parker asked him. "Kingpin's tryin' to kill us." Miles and I shout. "Who cares about that. Where's the collider?" Parker asked as he starts to walk along the side of the building. "Brooklyn. Under Fisk Tower." Miles replied.

"Goodbye." Parker said and he turns the other way. "Where you going?" I asked him. "When it runs again, I'll jump in and get back to my life." Parker said. "You can't let them run it. We're supposed to destroy it so it never runs again or everyone's gonna die." Miles said. "Or everyone's gonna die. That is what they always say. But there's always a little bit of time before everybody dies and that's when I do my best work." Parker said as he walks along the wall then lands on the roof of the car.

"Aren't you gonna need this?" Miles asked as he crawls down the side of the wall and holds up the key. "Aw, you have a goober. Give it." Parker said as he holds his hand out. "Wait, no. Not so fast. He called it an override key." Miles said as he backs away from Parker and I walk down the steps of the fire escape. "There's always a bypass key, a virus key, a who-cares key. I can never remember, so I always call it a goober. Give it." Parker said, firmly.

"We need it to destroy the collider." Miles said. "I need it to go home." Parker said. "I'll swallow it. Don't play with me." Miles said as he puts the key in his mouth. "What?" Parker asked, confused. "I said..." Miles started to say until Paker web shoots the key and brought it to him. "Hey!" Miles and I shouted.

"The collider created a portal that brought me here. And I have to get..." Parker started to say as he goes over to walk along the walls of the building next to us. He looks down at the key and stops. "Did you two break this?" He asked us. "He had it last!" I said as I point at Miles. "It broke. I don't remember what happened." Miles said as Parker rolls his head and places his hand over his face.

"Can't we make another one?" I asked him. "No, we can't do anything. Thanks to your boyfriend here, I have to re-steal what your guy stole from Alchemax and make another one of these." Parker said, annoyed, and Miles starts to follow him. "Uh...we're just friends." Miles and I said, in unison.

"If we don't turn off the collider after you leave, everyone in this city, my parents, my uncle, her mom, her aunt and millions of others, will die. And you're just gonna go home and leave us here to figure this out for ourselves?" Miles asked as Parker walks up the wall and to the roof. "You good with that, Spider-Man?" I asked him, angrily. "Yeah." He replied as he gets up to the roof. I sighed and kneel down on the fire escape as Miles sits down, pulls his knees up to him and places his head on his knees.

"What are you two doing?" Parker asked us. "Making you feel guilty." I replied. "Is it working?" Miles asked. "How could it...? No. Look at me. Does it look like it's working? No. No, it's not..." he said, quickly, then he sighs then pulls his arm up to his face and screamed, although it was muffled we could still hear him. "No! No! No! Do not let them win!" Then he sighed and turned to us. "All right, kids. You win. Come on, we don't have a second to lose." He said and Miles and stand up and smile. Then I raise my arm and web swing over to the building as Miles runs up the wall.

"Mmm. I love this burger. So delicious." Parker said as we were sitting in a burger joint. Miles and I had removed our masks and placed our jackets over our costumes as we sit there and watch Parker eat a burger. "One of the best burgers I've ever had. In my universe, this place closed six years ago. I don't know why. I really don't. Mmm." He said, enjoying his meal, them the waiter brings the check.

Parker looks over at us. "You guys have money, right? I'm not very liquid right now." He said and I sighed and pull out my wallet and placed the cash I had. The waiter takes it and walks away. "Can we focus?" Miles asked. "Mm-hm. Sure." Parker said as he eats a fry.

"The other Peter..."

"You gonna eat that?" Parker asked Miles, interrupting him. and he grabs Miles' burger and eats it. "I'm listening." He said. "The other Peter, my dad, said he was gonna be showing Miles the ropes and finish my training. I don't have powers, I just know how to web sling and fight." I said and Parker stops mid-bite and looks at me. "Wait, dad?!" He said, confused. "Technically, I'm adopted." I replied. "And what's your name, I didn't catch it?" He asked me. "(Y/n)." I replied and his eyes grow bigger as he sets the burger down.

"What?" Miles and I asked, curiously. "Uh, nothing. The name just sounded familiar. I might've heard of it in my dimension, I'm not sure." He said and he goes to eat his burger. I give him a curious look before Miles changes the subject. "Anyway....You got any Spider-Man tips you can tell me now?" He asked.

"Uh...Yeah, I got plenty. Disinfect the mask. You're gonna wanna use baby powder in the suit, heavy on the joints. You don't want any chafing, right?" Parker said. "Anything else?" Miles asked, disappointed. "Nope, that was everything." He said as he finishes the burger. "I think you're gonna be a bad teacher." Miles mutters. "Oh, definitely." I mutter as I lean back in my chair.

"Uh-uh-uh? Look up where Alchemax is." Parker said and I pull up my phone and look it up. "A private technological campus in Hudson Valley, New York." I said as Miles gasps.  "You can teach me to swing on the way there." Miles said and he starts to mimics the noise that the web shooters make and Parker laughs and I giggle at this.
