Jealous

Tony pushed his matted hair out of his eyes, bending over a damaged Iron Man armor. "Come on darling." he muttered, "Tell me where it hurts." he said, gently tapping a hollowed out area and pressing his ear against the hard iron casing. "Aha!" He exclaimed "Pete! I need a wrench" Tony said, extending a hand towards the kids general direction.

He let his hand hover in the air for a few seconds, waiting for the wrench, and dropped it when he didn't receive one. Confused, Tony turned around and scanned the room, realizing that Peter wasn't there. "Hey FRI?" Tony called out, head bent towards the ceiling, a habit he had developed even though FRIDAY could hear him from everywhere.

"Yes boss?" She asked smoothly. "Where's Underoo- my son?" Tony asked. He had once called Peter son while talking to FRIDAY, and now she refused to acknowledge him unless he called Peter son. Sometimes Tony regretted programming her to be teasing and devious.

"Mr. Parker is currently in the lounge with the Avengers." FRIDAYs metallic voice chimed. "That's weird." Tony muttered to himself. "He didn't come to the lab?" Peter always hung out in the lab with Tony, no matter how many times Tony asked him to explore the tower. Peter was usually too shy to even properly converse with the Avengers.

Puzzled, Tony abandoned his project and walked towards the lounge. As he approached the door, he could hear peals of laughter ringing through the room. Curious, Tony stepped inside.

Peter was lounging on the sofa with his head in Natasha's lap and legs on Clint's. Looks like they returned from the mission that they had been assigned to. Steve and Bucky were on the armchairs, acting something out with a lot of hand gestures while Wanda and Vision laughed from the love seat. Thor, Loki and Stephen were trying to grab Peters attention by animating some of the battles that they were in using their magic.

"Woah- Calm down people! There's enough of Peter to go around. Don't talk his ears off." Clint teased. "It's okay Uncle Clint." Peter blushed. Uncle Clint? That was weird. Clint didn't even meet Peter until today while Tony had known him from a whole year and was still called Mr. Stark by the kid.

Tony coughed, snapping Peter's attention towards him. "Oh- Hey Mr. Stark!" Peter greeted him, grinning goofily at him, causing Tony to smile back in response. "Hey kid, how come you didn't come to the lab today?" Tony asked, ruffling his hair. "Oh-I'm so sorry Mr Stark! I was talking to Uncle Clint and Auntie Nat and just lost track of time!" Peter rambled on.

Tony felt a stab of pain go through his heart when his kid called Clint and Nat Uncle and Auntie. "It's okay Pete. Would you like to come down later?"Tony said, hiding a frown.

"Actually, I made plans with Uncle Clint and Auntie Nat. They wanted to show me their favorite spots upstate. And later we thought we'll just watch a movie together." Peter said sheepishly. "Oh" Tony was a little taken aback with this. Peter never missed a chance to work in the lab with Tony before, and he was suddenly blowing that off to hang out with near strangers. How did they get so close to him so quick?

"I'm so sorry Mr. Stark-" Peter started but Tony cut him off. "It's okay kid. Maybe next time." He said, causing Peter to grin.

Then suddenly Clint, unknowing of Tony's internal struggle, shouted out "Hey Peter! Did I tell you about the time I pet a lion?" Peters eyes widened at this as he let out a little gasp. Nat chuckled and said "That's on my 'top 20 stupid things Clint did' list." And just like that, Peter was immersed in listening to them, forgetting about Tony.

Tony's smile drooped as he quietly turned around. He left the room quickly, running toward his lab before stopping in front of the door. He felt that weird feeling again. "I'm just being silly" Tony thought as he tried to shrug it off. "Peter can spend his time with whoever he wants." He convinced himself.

Then why did he feel like his friends had just snatched Peter away?

_____________________________

It had been six days since Peter met Clint and Nat. They had bonded over god knows what, and were constantly around each other. Once, Tony had overheard Peter tell Clint and Nat stories about the things he remembered about his parents. He had even taken them to their graves. Peter had never talked about them with Tony. That had made Tony's heart sting badly.

He had locked himself in his lab. Stupid. He was jealous of Clint Barton of all people, and it was killing him.

Tony sighed as he started tinkering with the Iron Man suit again. He asked FRI to play AC/DC at full volume as he re-calibrated the suit. He was so immersed in his music that he didn't hear the door click open.

"Wrench- wrench. I need a wrench." Tony muttered to himself. Suddenly the music went quiet as someone handed him a wrench. Tony turned around to see a smiling Peter Parker. "Hey Mr. Stark" Peter grinned "Is that what hell sounds like?" He teased, referring to the music. Tony smiled a little at the familiar banter. "Hey, that's quality music." Tony defended. "Sure, sure, whatever you say." Peter snorted. "Hey" Tony said, pointing a finger at Peter. "It's way better than whatever you listen to." "You mean Hamilton?!" Peter gasped out melodramatically.

"Yeah" Tony said, teasing Peter again. "I'm hurt" He said, placing his hand on his heart. Out of nowhere, the suit Tony was working on quivered and sparked, causing Tony and Peter to jump sky high.

They both turned around to see that a clumsy Clint Barton had crashed into the machine that was connected to the suit. "What the fu- hell!" Tony shouted out, hell bent on not swearing in front of Peter after May's lecture. "I guess I miscalculated my landing." Clint grimaced. "You think?" Tony screamed. "How did you even come in here?" Peter asked, curious.

Clint grinned and got up from the pile of machine that he was sitting on. "The vents." he whispered dramatically. "Why the fuck would you do that?" Tony asked, already forgetting about the no swearing rule. "I learnt it while undercover, it's the best way to travel" He wriggled his eyebrows, causing Peter to burst out giggling.

"Why are you here?" Tony asked while he uncapped a marker and wrote 'remember to reinforce the vents' on the whiteboard, causing Clint to pout.

"I'm just here to give my favorite nephew a gift" Clint drawled, revealing two small packages hidden in his hands. Tony instantly saddened at this. "For me? Thank you!" Peter grinned, hugging Clint. Peter had never accepted any gifts from Tony.

"Open the small one first." Clint instructed. Peter carefully unwrapped the box that approximately the size of Tony's reactor. He gently opened the box to reveal a silver necklace. Confused, he opened the small clasp on the charm and gasped. Inside was a picture of two people, a man and a woman hugging each other, bearing a strong resemblance to Peter.

Peter's parents.

"Mary had left this with me when we parted ways in Budapest. I thought it was time I gave it to you." Clint said, watching Peters reaction. Peter had tears running down his face as he gently cradled the locket in his hand. "Th-Thanks Uncle Clint. It's beautiful." Peter choked. "You're welcome." Clint grinned, ruffling his hair, as Tony watched them with jealousy.

"What's in the other box?" Peter asked curiously after he had calmed down. "Open it." Clint said. Peter tore through the wrapper this time to reveal a white box, expecting something big, Peter flipped open the lid. Suddenly five plastic spiders jumped out of the box and Peter screamed, throwing the box across the room.

Peter jumped onto the table and flipped onto the ceiling. "Spiders!" Peter whispered, frightened. "Calm down kid, they're fake." Tony grinned. Peters scared expression instantly morphed into fury (which made Peter look even more cute, like a mad puppy, but Tony wasn't going to tell Peter that) and he chased after Clint.

"I was just kidding!" Clint screamed as he scurried into the vents and shut them before Peter could follow. "Stupid Vibranium vents" Peter sulked.

He then noticed a half laughing, half mortified Tony and walked towards him. He still didn't notice the pain in his eyes. "I don't know how Auntie Nat bears him." Peter grumbled. "You pf all people would know, wouldn't you?" Tony muttered, feeling bitter. "What?" Peter asked. "Nothing" Tony hastily covered "Want to work with me to repair Mark 68?" He asked. But Peter was looking at him skeptically. "Is there anything wrong Mr. Stark?" Peter asked. "Nothing-" Tony said but was cut off by Peter.

"The spider bite enhanced everything, including my ability to sense when you're lying" Peter said. Tony sighed "It's nothing- it's just that you've been spending a lot of time with Clint and Nat lately. This is the first time you've come down in six days." Tony muttered.

"Oh my gosh Mr. Stark, I didn't mean- I'm so sorry!" Peter said but Tony interrupted. "It's okay. You like spending time with them more than with me. You like them better than me. I understand. Clint's your father figure. You look up to him and not me." Tony said quietly while all he wanted was to scream.

"No Mr. Stark! I like you better than anyone else in this building." Peter protested. "Its okay Pete-" But Peter cut him off.

"No, Mr. Stark, just listen. The reason I spent so much time with them for the past few days is because I found out that Clint and Nat knew my parents. Richard and Mary Parker were SHIELD agents. That's how Clint has my moms necklace. I just wanted to know more about them, that's all. No one could ever replace you Mr. Stark. Did Clint or Nat save my life more times than I could count? No. Did Clint or Nat take care of me when I was sick? No. Did Clint or Nat take a kid flying around in spandex and turn him into a super hero? No. Did Clint or Nat make me a kick ass suit with my own AI? No. Did Clint or Nat carry me to bed when I fell asleep in the lab? No. Did Clint or Nat spend time with me tinkering and listening to my ramblings about school and my friends? No. Did Clint or Nat teach me the value of love? No. Did Clint or Nat stay by my side throughout the hardest year ? No. But you did Mr. Stark. You were there for me when no one else was. You are my mentor. You are my father figure. You've always been Mr. Stark, and no-one and nothing can change that." Peter concluded his ramble. "So don't for one second think you are not the best and most important person in my life. Never forget that I love you, Mr. Stark."

Tony stared at him in shock before snapping out of it and hugging Peter. "Oh- this is nice" Peter said before sinking into Tony. "I love you too kid." Tony said.

"I just thought that you know- you told them about your parents and accepted gifts from them while you never do either with me." Tony said, still not breaking the hug. "I didn't tell you about my parents because you're the only one that can make me forget that my parents are dead- because you're there for me Mr. Stark. I'm not thinking about them whenever I'm with you. You make me forget my worst Mr. Stark. You are my true and only dad. And as for gifts, I didn't want to be a burden." Peter said firmly.

"Oh Pete, you never were." Tony said, finally breaking the hug. "And you're only going to call me dad from now on, okay kid?"

"OK Mr. Star- Ton- Dad."

"I like it, son."
