Third Person's POV

We start in Seaside Island, canyon as Sonic and Brody are chasing Eggman in his Eggmobile "You can't lose us, Egghead!" Sonic said "Eggman! You know my name is Doctor Eggman! You two do that on purpose!" Eggman said "Do what, Egghead?" Brody asks and the chase continues, but Sonic and Brody are eventually forced to stop, teetering on the edge of a cliff "Who-o-oa!" Sonic and Brody said and they manage to get back to safety. Eggman is way up above "It all ends here, old friend. Prepare to be destroyed by Burntbot!" Eggman said "So what, he's gonna burn us with flamethrowers or something?" Sonic asks "Flamethrower? Well... no..." Eggman said "Oh, uh, acid? Incendiary grenades?!" Brody asks "No no no, the li- claws! He has claws! Very painful claws!" Eggman said "Then you should have called him "Clawbot" or "The Lacerator" or "Pinch-a-tron 9000." But "Burnbot"? I mean, that's just false advertising!" Sonic said "I name the robots, Sonic and Brody! Burnbot, attack!" Eggman said and Burnbot jumps down and starts speeding towards Sonic and Brody. Sonic and Brody run in the same direction, keeping directly across from Burnbot. Overhead, Tails flies by in his plane "Blue and Yellow Leaders, this is Orange Sky. I have eyes on Burnbot. He's on the move! Over" Tails said "Thanks, Tails. Initiate Speeding Swing Suprise" Brody said and Tails dives his plane into the canyon, sending Eggman into a spin and Tails activates his Enerbeam  and Sonic, Brody and Burnbot leap at each other as the scene goes into slow motion. Tails flies by, throwing the beam to Sonic and Brody. Sonic and Brody catch the beam, swings around on it, and delivers a kick to Burnbot, launching him into the canyon wall. Sonic and Brody land on the canyon floor across from Burnbot and Eggman flies down "Get up, get up, get up!" Eggman said and Burnbot climbs to its feet, then notices Tails' plane flying overhead. It fires one of its claws at the plane, damaging the wing. The plane goes into a spin "Bail, Tails, bail!" Sonic and Brody said and Tails pulls the eject lever, only for it to break off in his hand. Sonic and Brody prepare to rush to help, but is cut off by Burnbot. Sonic and Brody dodge one of Burnbot's claws, then sees a large rock poised over it. Sonic and Brody jump over another of Burnbot's attacks, and spin into the rock, dropping it on Burnbot. Sonic and Brody leap up to the top of the canyon "Tails, no!" Sonic and Brody said as Tails' plane crashes to the ground and explodes. Sonic and Brody look on in shock, then races over "We'll be back, Sonic and Brody!" Eggman said and activates an electromagnet to pick up Burnbot "Oof, you are heavy. Seriously, Burnbot, you could stand to burn a few calories" Eggman said and flies off with Burnbot. Brody pulls Tails out of the wrecked plane and listens at his chest. A heartbeat confirms that Tails is still alive and Sonic and Brody sigh in relief "Keep resting, pal. We'll get you home" Brody said and picks Tails up "I promise I'll never let anything like this happen to you again" Sonic said as the two walk off with Tails.

*Later at Tails' house*

Tails, who is laying on the couch, bandaged up, opens his eyes, then sits up "Sonic? Brody?" Tails asks "Hey, buddy! How ya feelin'?" Sonic and Brody ask "I'm great! Ready to get back in action!" Tails said "Yeah, uh... about that, um... I've got some great news! You, my friend, are taking early retirement!" Sonic said ""Early retirement"?" Tails asks "Yeah, you're gonna be able to play lots of golf and spend time with the grandkids!" Sonic said "I don't have grandkids!" Tails said "Well, now's your chance to get some, start with having kids with Turbo! Trust me, it's for the best" Sonic said and hugs Tails "We'll see ya around, pal" Sonic said as he and Brody run off "...Wait, what just happpened?" Tails asks and Sonic enters the door "I fired you" Sonic said and leaves again "Okay, just checking" Tails said.

*At Seaside Island, beach*

"Don't look at me like that. I did what I had to do" Sonic said looking at Brody "You sure?" Brody said "Yeah and now we're going to make sure Tails stays retired" Sonic said and hangs one of the flyers on a palm tree.

*Later at Eggman's Lair*

""Sidekick tryouts. All qualified candidates welcome. Best candidate gets the job. Resume and references required." Can you believe this?" Eggman asks reading the flyer "A resume and references aren't unreasonable, sir" Orbot said "Especially in this job market!" Cubot said and Eggman slams his fist down, scaring Orbot and Cubot into running in circles. Eggman crumples the flyer and throws it at Orbot and Cubot "What fool would want to be Sonic and Brody's sidekick? Spending every day with them... Enjoying their friendship and respect... Not me, that's for sure! ...Unless..." Eggman said and scratches his chin and the camera zooms in on his face, then sinks down to his boots "Lousy security camera!" Eggman said and lifts the camera back to his face.

*Meanwhile at Sonic and Brody's Shack*

A line is forming outside. Inside, Sonic is sitting with a clipboard and a pencil and Brody was reading a magazine "I'm Amy Rose, and I'll be auditioning for the job of sidekick" Amy said "Amy, We know who you are" Brody said "Great, because I am fine with nepotism. Oh, and under special skills, you can add juggling and singing" Amy said and sings "Oh, when the Saints go marching in" She sings "Next!" Sonic said. Fastidious Beaver is the next interviewee "My greatest weakness? Actually, it is my incredible cowardice" Fastidious said. Amy Rose, for some reason, is being interviewed again "Oh, improv? I love improv!" Amy said and mocks Italian accent "I'm a crazy pizza man! Who juggles and sings!" Amy said and starts juggling and singing  When The Saints Go Marching In again as Sonic pushes her out. Knuckles is the next interviewer, but for some reason, he's the one holding the clipboard and pencil "I think you'd be a great sidekick for me" Knuckles said "No, Knuckles, I'm looking for someone to be my and Brody's sidekick" Sonic said "We'd have to change your name, though. I'm thinking... "Knuckles Junior."" Knuckles said and Sonic grabs back the clipboard and crosses something out. The next interviewee is a hooded figure "Okay, last question. What would you do in a no-win situation?" Sonic asks "If I'm with you, there's no such thing as a "no-win situation."" The hooded figure said "Huh. You really get it, new guy" Sonic said "I do get it. But I'm not a new guy. In reality, I am none other than..." The hooded figure said and tries to remove his hood, but starts struggling with it and eventually falls to the floor, revealing himself as... "Tails?! You cannot be our sidekick!" Sonic said and Tails holds up the flyer ""All qualified candidates welcome. Best candidate gets the job." I'm a lock! Unless there's something you're not telling me..." Tails said "And that's why I said to watch what you say, now let him try" Brody said and Sonic rolls his eyes "Fine! But get ready for the tryout of your life!" Sonic said looking at Tails "Hello" Eggman said walking in "Eggman!" Tails said "What are you doing here?!" Brody asks "My name is Doctor Eggman, and I'm here about the sidekick position" Eggman said and holds up a resume "Wh- but you're our arch-nemesis!" Sonic said "That's true. But I could be a valuable asset to your organization. For example, I'm a doctor. Not a real doctor, a PhD, but still!" Eggman said "You can't be our sidekick" Sonic said ""All qualified candidates welcome"?" Eggman said "...Okay, fine. You both can move on to Round Two. But neither one of you is going to be my sidekick" Sonic said "Who else is there?" Tails said and Fastidious Beaver pops back in the doorway "Actually, do you validate parking?" Fastidious asks "Congratulations, you're the third candidate!" Sonic said and Brody facepalms "Actually..." Fastidious said.

*Later at Seaside Island, jungle*

Doctor Eggman, Tails, and Fastidious Beaver are standing on hoverboards "All right. Being our sidekick is no easy task. This competition will test your strength, stamina, and endurance. The winner will be whoever makes it-" Sonic said "Actually, it's "whomever."" Fastidious said "The winner will be whomever makes it through all the unimaginable hardships and brings me the red flag I planted atop the incredibly dangerous, but inaccurately named, Mount Safety" Sonic said annoyed "Actually--" Fastidious said and is pushed by Eggman and goes down the hill, screaming all the way down. Eggman and Tails soon follow, and Sonic and Brody take off to follow and watch the race. As they race through the jungle, Eggman activates the bladed seekers on his hoverboard, and they go after Tails. Tails manages to avoid them, but ends up crashing into Fastidious. After clinging to Tails for a while, Fastidious loses his grip and falls into the jungle below "Actually, I'm okay!" Fastidious said and the Seekers continue to chase Tails, but Tails puts on the brakes of his hoverboard, and the seekers slam into one another. Tails gets back into motion, and soon stops at the clearing, where his plane and Sonic and Brody wait "What's going on here?" Brody asks "Nothing I can't handle!" Tails said and jumps into his plane and takes off. Eggman enters his Eggmobile and is right behind Tails. Sonic and Brody watch them go, then run after them "Actually, I'm just gonna lie down in the fetal position and weep" Fastidious said.

*At Airspace in front of Mount Safety*

"Give up, Eggman! This job is rightfully mine!" Tails said "I'm not here to be Sonic and Brody's sidekick, you nincompoop! I'm here to get rid of you three once and for all!" Eggman said and activates his electromagnet and picks up Burnbot from the jungle. Sonic and Brody see this and pick up the pace. Burnbot fires its claws at Tails' plane, finally catching it in the wing again. Tails' plane goes out of control again. Sonic and Brody pick up the pace further, but has to cut back as they go sliding across the ice of a frozen lake. Tails' plane is in the middle of it, broken partway through the ice "Tails!" Sonic and Brody said "Sonic, Brody, I'm stuck!" Tails said and from above, Burnbot fires its claws, which turn into buzzsaws that cut into the ice, cracking it further. Sonic and Brody jump out to the plane, and help the struggling Tails out of the cockpit. They manage to get clear just as the plane sinks into the water, and land a ways away "Tails... We didn't really wanna fire you. We were just trying to protect you" Sonic said "How? By putting me in more danger?" Tails asks "The plan had holes!" Sonic said and Tails smiles as Brody helps him up "Oh, Sonic! Brody! I have one last surprise for you two! I took your advice! Burnbot can burn things!" Eggman said and Burnbot fires a pair of fireballs that create a ring of fire around Sonic, Brody and Tails, melting and cracking the ice. Tails manages to fly up, but Sonic and Brody wind up sliding down the ice into the water and Sonic starts thrashing around "I can't swim!" Sonic said and holds onto Brody as Tails flies down and grabs Brody, trying to pull him and Sonic up, but fails "You're waterlogged! I can't lift you!" Tails said "Don't worry about us!" Brody said "Get out of here!" Sonic said "That's not how sidekicks do!" Tails said and grabs onto Brody again, and is pulled under with them. However, Tails manages to use his tails as a propeller to propel himself, Brody and Sonic back up and out of the water and into the air. Tails lets go of Brody, who along with Sonic go into a spin and slams into Burnbot. Burnbot's impact cracks the ice under it, causing it to sink into the water. Tails catches Sonic and Brody, and they fly into the jungle together "I'll be back! With a new robot! Who has an accurate name! And super laser eyes! And he'll feed me ham! Evil ham" Eggman said and flies off in his Eggmobile.

*Later at Seaside Island, beach*

It is nearing sunset. Sonic, Brody and Tails are sitting together "About this job... What're the hours like?" Tails asks "Well, it's seven days a week" Sonic said "But you get your own plane" Brody said and Tails smiles as this chapter comes to an end.
