Chapter 4 Code Names for Everyone
Buzz buzz.
I groaned and flipped my phone so that the screen faced down. I rolled over so my back was facing it.
Buzz buzz, buzz buzz.
I sighed and picked up my phone turning it on to see the text messages. Four from Cisco, three from Barry, and one from Iris.
From Iris, See you later today! Work for me!
From Barry, first, Good morning! Second, Are you at S.T.A.R. yet? Third, Where on Earth did you go?
From Cisco, first, Get up. Second, Don't you set alarms? Third, Seriously, we need you and the police need you get up. Four, YOU NEED TO SEE YOUR SUIT ITS SO AWESOME. PLUS I have a job for you. :) :)
The last one made me smile because it was so Cisco. I texted Cisco back, I'm coming, and no I don't use alarms, they're overrated.
I leaped out of bed, doing all of my morning routine things in less than a fourth of the time. I had another text from Cisco. Ha ha. Get one.
I shoved my feet into my shoes and ran to S.T.A.R. Labs. I slammed the central door open. "What d'ya want?"
"I want to give everyone code names!" Cisco said.
I held out a hand. "Give me food first."
Cisco grinned and handed me a giant donut. "There. Now for code names."
I stared at the donut. "Holy cow this is the biggest donut I've ever seen! Where did you get it?"
"I got it actually," Barry said. "Jitters sells them for really cheap."
I took a huge bite. "Remind me to raid their stash sometime."
"I was thinking he would be Flash. I don't know about you yet though," Cisco continued as if he hadn't heard us. "You already called me Gizmo."
"You said you had a job for me?" I asked, taking another bite of donut.
"Yes, you both need to put your suits on," Cisco grinned as I almost inhaled the rest of my donut. "I'm going to find some people for you two to save!"
"What about Dr. Wells and Caitlin?" I asked, starting toward my suit, not really caring what they thought.
"They won't be here for a while yet," Barry said.
Yellow lightning crackled and Barry ran off, reappearing a moment later in his red suit. He threw my black one at me. "Your turn."
I grinned and shot away, changing into my black suit with the green fire on the front and sides of the head. I ran back into the central room to find Barry looking over Cisco's shoulder. I peeked over his other shoulder.
"In this whole city of New York there isn't a single- never mind. There's a fire right there." Cisco pointed at the map. "Do you think you two cou-"
"On it!" Barry and I said at the same moment.
We both ran full speed to the street Cisco had pointed to on the computer.
"SCREEEEEECH!" Cisco's voice shouted in my ear.
Barry and I both stopped. "How much did we overshoot by?" I asked, pushing a button on my earpiece that I guessed would let me respond. I was right.
"Four blocks," Cisco said.
Barry and I ran four blocks back. A large column of smoke was rising into the sky.
Cisco's voice crackled in my ear again. "There's too much fire. Don't do it."
"How do you know how much fire there is?" Barry asked.
"I'm going anyway," I announced.
I ran through the door, it was extremely hot inside. I searched the entire first floor without finding anyone. The rest of the house was equally empty until the top floor. I burst into a room that didn't have any fire in it yet. A woman stood against on wall with a small child in her arms. They both looked at me with terror in their eyes.
"I'm not here to hurt you," I said. "I'm going to get you out."
"How did you get through the fire?" the woman asked.
"Let's just say I have my ways." I ran forward and picked up the child first, sprinting full speed down the stairs I set the boy down on the sidewalk and ran back inside.
The walls groaned ominously.
Barry's voice came in my earpiece. "Get out of there! It's going to come down any second!"
"I can't yet!" I kept running up the stairs. "There's one last thing I need to do!"
"Alright, but make it quick."
"I'm quick!"
"Ha ha. Don't die."
I ran into the room, picked up the woman and started running back down the stairs. The bottom step collapsed when I landed on it and I had to slow down enough that my right leg started to get hot. I caught my balance and ran back out the door as the building started to fall.
I set the woman down next to the boy and collapsed from dizziness. I reached up and pushed a button. "Gizmo," I panted. "Where's Flash?"
"He's here," Cisco sounded like he was whispering. "Dr. Wells is chewing him out."
"I'm excited to get back," I said sarcastically.
I stood up to find the two people I'd just saved looking at me.
"Who are you?" the little boy asked.
A name popped in my head. I knelt down and put one hand on the boy's shoulder, with the other I pushed the button on my earpiece. "Spark. Call me Spark." I took my finger off of the button and stood up again.
I heard a whoop in my ear as I started running toward S.T.A.R. Labs that likely came from Cisco. "It's perfect!"
I skidded to a stop in the main room of S.T.A.R. Labs to find Dr. Wells, Caitlin, and Cisco all staring at me. Cisco grinned and shot me a thumbs up, Caitlin was frowning, and Dr. Wells looked downright murderous.
I sighed. "Hello everyone. Nice to see you and all that, but I'm late so..."
"Skye," Dr. Wells said. "What did you-"
"Bye!" I picked up my bag, ran to the first empty room I found and changed.
I used my speed to get one block away from the police station. I stopped running super-speed and just ran human speed the rest of the way there.
I jogged through the door. I saw Joe and Iris talking to the woman and little boy I'd saved earlier.
"She said her name was Spark," the little boy said.
"Spark huh?" Iris asked, kneeling down. "Did she mention anyone else?"
The boy scrunched up his face as he thought. "She talked to herself and said Gizmo and Flash."
"She was using an earpiece," the woman corrected. "She was wearing all black with a green fire type thing on her chest and on either side of her head."
"And you said she saved you and your son from the fire?" Joe asked, frowning. "How did she do that?"
"She was really fast!" the little boy exclaimed happily. "She came and we appeared outside!"
"How fast?" Iris's eyes were gleaming.
"She picked me up and then I was outside! It was amazing!" the little boy bounced up and down.
Hmmm... Spark might need to pay Iris a surprise visit, I thought as Joe thanked the two and started toward me.
"What's that look for?" he asked, narrowing his eyes slightly at me.
I smiled. "What look?"
"Never mind. Barry's upstairs."
Barry was doing something on his computer. When I looked, it wasn't anything work related and when I asked him he explained that there wasn't usually anything to do.
The day was uneventful. I went to Jitters for lunch and dinner and chatted with Iris. After Barry told me he was headed home I started for S.T.A.R. Labs.
I managed to get into and out of S.T.A.R. Labs without anyone noticing. Cisco was too busy in his 'tech room' to notice my coming.
As I ran toward Jitters I practiced vibrating my voice. After I got the hang of it, it was really easy. I entered through the back door and leaned against the door frame, watching Iris wipe of all of the tables. I didn't say anything, watching silently.
Iris turned toward me and jumped, covering her mouth in surprise. After several seconds of silence she spoke. "You're the person the little boy who came in today described. Spark."
I nodded. "Yes." My voice sounded like I was bouncing on a gravel road, but I didn't sound like Skye anymore.
"Who are you? Where are you from?" Iris patted a chair. "Sit down, we can talk."
I started to sit down and heard a whoosh of air. I felt a hand on my right shoulder. "Hello Fire Spark," Barry's vibrating voice said.
"Hello Flash," I said. "I thought you were at your house."
Barry grinned. "It seems we had the same idea."
Iris looked from me to Barry. "Are you two..."
"No," I said, glad my hood-mask covered my cheeks. "We're siblings."
"Oh," Iris smiled. "So are you going to answer my questions?"
Barry and I exchanged looks. Cisco won the award for most convenient interruption, even though the news he told wasn't good. "You two weren't the only ones to be affected by the lightning."
Barry touched his earpiece. "What do you mean Gizmo?"
"Pyromancer!"
I groaned. "You think of the worst names. Let me guess. He plays with fire?"
"Ding ding ding! Got it in one. You should get over here right now."
"We need to go," Barry said. "Maybe we'll see you later."
Before Iris could say anything else, Barry and I were gone. Most likely half way to S.T.A.R. Labs before she realized we had left.

This chapter was really long because I had so much I wanted to write.
Q&A
No questions but I'm happy to answer any that you have for me or the characters.
S.T.A.R. Labs (according to Cisco) is Super Technologically Advanced Research Labs. :) (I know that's not really what it stands for, but I thought that was better)
May the wind blow strong in your sails and fortune favor your blade!
