Chapter 3 Dizzy (and hungry)

"Gizmo! You got any other colors besides blue and red?" I asked when we returned to S.T.A.R. Labs.

Cisco, not surprisingly, was sitting at his computer with a sucker in his mouth even though we'd just gotten back. I walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder. "Earth to Gizmo. You got any other colored suits?"

Cisco looked up and pulled the sucker out of his mouth. "So I'm Gizmo now huh?"

I rolled my eyes. "Just answer the question."

"Sure," he stood up and led me to his storage room. "I've got black, purple, or another red one."

   I smiled. "How about black?"

Cisco stuck the sucker back into his mouth and pulled out the black friction-proof suit. "Sthere you go," he said around his sucker, handing me the folded material. "Thry that on."

I took the suit. "It's easier to understand you without a sucker in your mouth."

Cisco grinned. "Yesh, it ish. But thish ish more fun."

He gave his sucker a loud slurp and sat down at his computer again. I shook my head and grabbed one of the extra bags by the door, shoving the black suit into it. I almost crashed into Barry when I stepped out the door. He was still wearing his red suit, reminding me that I needed to change back into my gray t-shirt and jeans.

"Going somewhere?" he asked with a smile.

"Yes actually," I said. "For one, I'm hungry, and for another, I need to change."

   "Don't let me stop you."

I started to walk away and stopped. "Oh, by the way, Cisco's got a sucker so he's kind of hard to understand."

Barry gave me the thumbs up and grinned. "Consider me warned."

I smiled and ran to an empty room. I changed as fast as I could, which was probably less than three seconds. I wanted to go to Jitters for dinner. Simply because it was cheap and I could say hello to Iris.

I'd been awake and super fast for three hours, give or take a couple minutes, and I was already using my speed more. I ran full throttle all the way to Jitters, and was stopped in the alley right next to it by a moment of dizziness. I pressed a hand against the wall for support and waited for the dizzy feeling to go away. As soon as it did, I stepped out of the alley and opened the door to Jitters.

It was much less busy than it had been when Barry and I had first come. Iris was standing behind the counter.

"Hey Iris," I said, leaning on the counter. "Got any good food here?"

   Iris smiled. "Sandwich?"

   I nodded. "A gigantic one."

Iris laughed and started making the sandwich. "So why did you and Barry need to leave so soon?"

"One of the people from S.T.A.R. Labs wanted to talk to us," I said, telling half of the truth. "They thought the lightning might have done something to us. It didn't though."

"That makes sense," Iris handed me the mountainous sandwich. "It's on me."

"Thanks," I squished the sandwich down so I could fit it in my mouth. "I haven't eaten all day."

"Surely they gave you the IV food?" Iris pointed out.

I took a huge bite out of the sandwich. "Thatsh not the shame." I swallowed. "Gosh I sound like Cisco."

Iris laughed. "It's just as easy to say something before you take a bit of food as it is to say it after."

"That's a good point," I took another bite. "Thatsh why I do it thish way."

"You're going to get the hiccups. You ate that really fast."

I looked down at the sandwich. Only two or three bites were left. I smiled, apparently my speed extended to everything. "Either that or I'm going to get a bellyache."

My phone buzzed. I glanced at my pocket and decided it wasn't urgent. I finished my sandwich and my phone buzzed four more times. I sighed and pulled it out of my pocket. "Somebody wants my attention."

I turned it on and checked the texts. They were all from Cisco.

You need to come.

For someone who can move really fast you aren't getting here very quick.

GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW! ITS A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH!

Okay maybe not. But you still need to get over here asap.

I sighed. "I need to go to S.T.A.R. I'll see you tomorrow."

Iris smiled. "Bring Barry with you tomorrow. I need to talk to him too."

"I will," I promised, opening the door. "Bye!"

Iris waved. I walked out and turned toward S.T.A.R. Labs. I jogged to the corner before leaping into a dead run.

I skidded to a stop in the main room and almost fell over from another dizzy spell. I put both hands on the desk and looked around. Dr. Wells, Cisco, and Caitlin were crowded around a computer in front of a window. Barry was inside a room behind the window, running really fast on a treadmill.

"Look at that," Cisco said, pointing to a bar on the screen that was shrinking rapidly. "He'll trip in three... two... one... now."

When Cisco said 'now' Barry collapsed, flying backwards into a thick wall of cardboard boxes and packing peanuts.

"What are you doing to my brother?" I asked curiously. None of the things on the screen made any sense to me.

"Tests," Cisco said. He grinned at me. "You and Barry need to eat more donuts, tacos, and pizza."

"Food in general," Caitlin said. "It will stop you from getting dizzy and passing out."

"So ice cream, donuts, cake, and cookies," Barry said, stumbling out of the treadmill room. "Speaking of which, I don't suppose you've got any of that?"

Cisco pulled out two bags of licorice. "I was going to save these for later but you two need them more."

I took one of the bags and started munching. "What is it with you and candy Cisco?" I asked, waving a piece of licorice in his direction.

"It's delicious and they're perfect for tests," Cisco pulled out yet another bag of licorice for himself, opened it, and set it down on his desk next to the computer.

"What kind of tests?" Barry asked, devouring his entire bag in ten seconds flat and turning his gaze to mine.

I sighed. "You can have a couple pieces."

Barry grinned. "Thank you." He reached into my bag and pulled out a handful.

   Cisco smiled. "The delicious kind."

"Something tells me you won't get much more of an answer out of him," Dr. Wells said.

I focused all of my attention on the licorice. The next time I looked up Cisco was the only person left in the room besides me. He was fiddling with Barry's red suit, which was on a mannequin. He put a yellow lightning bolt in the middle of the chest and one on each side of the mask.

"Could I have you're friction suit?" Cisco asked, tilting his head in my direction.

I pulled it out of the bag and threw it at him. "There you go."

"Thanks." He unfolded it and started working to get in onto the second mannequin.

When it was on, he stepped back. "What would look good on that? What should your symbol be?"

"How about something green?" I said. "My lightning is green, so it would fit with the theme."

"That is not helpful at all," Cisco said, giving me a reproachful look.

I smiled. "Sure it is. I told you something green. You figure out the rest."

Cisco studied the suit for a minute longer. "How about a lantern?"

   I glared at him. "N.O."

"Okay, okay," Cisco grinned. "How about fire?"

"That is much better than a lantern."

   "Alright, fire it is."

I yawned. "I'll leave you to it then. I'm tired."

Cisco didn't respond, a sure sign he was very focused on whatever he was doing. I stood up and ran full speed to my little apartment. I slipped into my pajamas and collapsed in bed with a box of donuts.
