The advantage is getting the ability to sample multiple books in a short span of time all together. No clicking to the first chapter just to realize the opening line was a turn off anyway.

FOR AUTHORS
Other than getting your name out there, it should encourage us all to remember that with SO many other titles to choose from, we must open STRONG and grab a reader's attention early. That first chapter should hit the ground running...or brooding.
