Chapter 2 - Hushed Tears
Ink's POV
Error and I entered our dorm. I tossed my coffee cup into the small bin and walked to my side of the dorm. My best friend looked at a slip of paper that the barista gave him. He smiled at me.
Error: Look, Ink. She gave me her number.
I gave him a smile before walking to my bathroom, the only place that gave me privacy.
Closing the door behind me, I leaned against its smooth wood. Sliding to the floor, I felt inky black tears begin to fall from my eyes. My sadness was silent, hushed from the world.
This was one of the times that I was grateful for being mute. My sobs were not heard by Error, the one I was in love with.
I pulled my brown scarf up to cover my mouth. My black tears stained the old fabric and my eyes were closed shut. I pulled my legs to my chest, curling into a ball.
I cried until there were no more tears left to shed. My hands pushed my body up into a standing position.
Walking over to the mirror, I stared at my reflection. My eye lights were rainbow but they were duller than normal. My ink stained cheeks were stained even more from my tears.
Pulling my sleeve down, I used it to wipe away the evidence of my sadness. Then I put a small smile on my face. I sighed to myself before walking to the door. When I opened it, I saw Error sitting on his bed, talking to the barista on the phone.
He noticed me and waved, I smiled and waved back. However he didn't end his phone call. My smile wavered for a second but I managed to hide it.
I sat on my bed and grabbed my sketchbook. Opening to a blank page, I looked around for something to draw. That's when my eyes landed on Error. I admired the smile on his face before observing the rest of his facial features.
Error being distracted with something gave me the only chances to truly admire him. His attractiveness, his personality, just him in general. But... he was unaware. Unaware of my love for him.
I felt a tear fall off my cheek. This caused me to look at my sketchbook. I saw that I had subconsciously drew Error onto the page. There were also a few tear stains on it. I sighed as I closed the book because Error doesn't need to see this.
Error: Ink.
His voice caught my attention. I signaled that I was listening.
Error: Remember the barista?
I nodded.
'How could I not?'
Error: Well her name is Martina and I'm going on a date with her tomorrow night.
I hid my urge to break down crying behind a smile. He grabbed his rucksack and pulled out his schoolwork. I started packing my things as I had a class to go to in a few minutes.
(Time Skip)
An yawn escaped my mouth as I entered the dorm. It was about eight in the evening. I found Error fast asleep on his bed with his school work sprawled out around him. A tired smile appeared on my lips.
Quietly setting my stuff next to my bed, I walked over to his side of the room.
Carefully picking up his stuff, I placed them on his desk. After that, I took my blanket and draped it over him.
I exited the dorm and headed towards the stairs. It led to the roof, where I would sometimes sit and enjoy the noises of the world.
When I opened the door, the chilly wind touched my face. I pulled my brown scarf up as I walked to the middle. I never approached the edge as it was dangerous. It made sense as I didn't want to die.
Laying down, I stared at the stars. Without the ability to talk, I learned to listen and enjoy the world around me. However, my mind kept going back to Error and Martina.
I couldn't come to terms with it all. I knew Error was straight but I still hoped that maybe he could love me, more than just a friend.
I tried not to think about it and just think about the stars. The stars and I were similar, quiet. I may be mute but I didn't let it bring me down. Although, I sometimes wondered what my voice would sound like if I could speak.
My mind went back to thinking about Error. I let out an airy sigh of frustration as I turned over to me side. My eyes began to feel heavy. I closed them.
'Just a few minutes up here...
