Chapter 17 - A Month Later

Ink's POV

I wrote notes as I watched the professor teach his lesson. Error rested his head against his hand, his pencil running against the lined notebook paper, taking notes in both Spanish and English. I have always admired his nice handwriting.

I glanced towards him, seeing him focused. Rainbow blush grew on my cheeks and a light smile appeared however, it disappeared when I remembered that I was leaving tonight.

The professor continued to talk about the complexity of "War & Peace", a difficult book to stay committed to when reading. I was never able to understand a few words while I attempted to read it a few years ago.

The students tried to keep up with notes as the teacher up front never took a break to catch his breath. Not of nowhere, he dismissed class which left everyone confused for a few moments.

Error closed his notebook before slipping it into his backpack.

Error: A friend invited me to a party tonight, wanna come?

He asked as he waited for me to finish packing up. I shook my head, knowing that I had plans tonight that I couldn't cancel.

We walked together through the hallways of the English building, walking past the large library on the first floor. It was a nice afternoon with a soft breeze and cool temperature. Those that had free hours spent their time doing homework on the nearby benches under the trees.

I took my phone out of my pocket and texted my mother, following closely behind Error as to not run into anything. I relayed to her that I would be home soon to see grandma. I would forget her problem throughout the day but when I was alone to my thoughts, I remembered that I was slowly losing her. It didn't feel real in the slightest.

Error and I made our way back to the dorm. I instantly climbed onto my bed while my friend took off his shirt. I blushed heavily but tried to hide the fact that I was staring at him.

I flipped over, trying to not think about his body. I needed to stay focused on what I was doing.

(Time Skip)

Error threw a leather jacket over his arms. I sat on my bed, in my pajamas, with my sketchbook sitting on my lap. While the image was still in my mind I quickly sketched rough lines on the paper. The picture was Error in his current outfit the pose of leaning against a brick wall.

He looked at me with a questioning expression.

Error: How's my outfit? Do you think it's too hot for a party or good?

I gave him a thumbs up to let him know that I thought his clothing was great. He smiled before slipping his phone into his back pocket and wallet, as well as the key to my car. I had given him permission to borrow it when he asked if he could use it to the get to the location that night.

He said goodbye to me before leaving the dorm. I waited for a few minutes, making sure that Error wasn't coming back. I got off my bed and grabbed my luggage that I kept hidden under it. It was already packed a few days ago when I bought the one-way plane ticket back home.

I changed out of my pjs and slipped on a comfortable pair of casual pants and a t-shirt. I wasn't able to wear my brown scarf as the airport would want to check it for contraband.

When I had everything together, I ran a quick check for anything I could have forgotten.

'Phone, check. Wallet, check. Backpack with sketchbook, check. Luggage, obviously check. And school stuff, check. Okay I have everything. It is time to go.'

I threw my backpack over my shoulder and made my way to the door. Turning around, I rethought every decision that I had ever made that led me up to this moment. I sighed before closing it behind me and locking it.

I rushed down the stairs as best I could without falling down the steps. I needed to catch a bus to the airport as I didn't have my car.

After three hours had passed, I was finally on the plane. I pulled my sketchbook out of my backpack and continued drawing in it. I worked on finishing the one that I had started earlier that day.

Every once in a while, I would look out the window. The plane was high in the air. I could see city buildings and popular locations. I wouldn't look out for long, flying had always made me nervous.

I thought about Error. He would return to an empty dorm, like the other two times. I felt guilty for leaving so suddenly but I knew that he would either try to convince me not to go or ask to go with me. Why I was leaving was a personal matter. It would be awkward to have him in the same room as my dying grandmother.

'For now, he will have to live without me. I worry about him sometimes even though I really don't have a reason to. He's the one that's able to speak. I'll be back, don't worry...

I'll see you soon, Error
